Chapter 2: Dinner table Argument

Hello everyone its nice to be writing again. I love the fact that my life is starting to take a turn for the better. I would like to thank you all for your years of support in my writing efforts and if your new to my fanfic writing… welcome and sorry for the cringe. I would like to invite all of you to write comments and tell me what you think. Though id prefer honest opinions I would like you guys to not be mean about it… unless I you know cross a line that shouldn't be crossed. Anyway here is chapter 2… hopefully I didn't make you wait too long.

Nightfall on the farm in the woods north of ponyville was equal parts eerie and serene. Fireflies doing their dance in the air with crickets and junebugs singing their songs. The warm night air and star filled sky would make any pony feel safe upon looking upon it.

Inside the house of the farm sat a dinner table set with plates, forks, and spoons each of which organized to be presentable.

Seated around this table was the family who owned the farm.

Starlight and his parents sat on seperate sides of each other. The only sound being the chomping of their food.

Sunshine ate small portions and chewed throughly. He was the type to enjoy this level of silence and pony forbid anyone interrupt it until he was done eating.

Delilah meanwhile took small dainty bites out of food and chewing just as throughly as her husband. The filly would eat the slowest and finish last.

Starlight was the exact opposite of his parents in many ways. Eating being one of them. He took in a greedy amount of his food and chewed quickly then swallowed before he could possibly have time to savor his meal.

This fact used to irritate sunshine until one day after a talk with delilah he stopped complaining about it.

Starlight finished his meal first then sat in silence.

The wait was killing him but he knew better then to break silence without pa talking first. Despite what he thought he knew pa wasnt overly violent but also knew that he was a man of rigid rules that needed to be adhered too and as long as you did that youd be fine.

So all starlight could do was wait.

"crops are coming in good this year." Pa said between bites of his meal.

Starlight eased his shoulder because now it was safe to talk and reply.

"yes dear, another great harvest it seems." his ma replied dutifily then takes another bite.

"i-i uh, I stole some honey today from the bees."

Silence.

Delilah froze her eyes darting to her husband.

Sunshine had no facial expression which neither knew if it was better or worse then him being angry.

"why on earth would you do something like that starlight?" delilah asked taking a breath when her husband didn't react.

"it tastes better fresh."

A giggle, a small one mind you. But one loud enough to pierce the quiet of the dinner room scene and that made sunshine turn his angry gaze on both his son who said the dumb comment and his wife who encouraged it.

"what? It was funny."

"dear, would you please not encourage our sons foolhardy adventures."

"sunshine, my love, he wasnt really hurting anypony."

Sunshine narrowed his eyes into daggers of ice. His cold metal eyes boring into his wife. "it doesn't matter he shouldn't be drawing attention to himself."

"why is that pa?" Starlight built up the courage to ask and immediately regretted it as his father turned that cold gaze to him and him alone.

"you know why boy. You don't need to be going anywhere outside the farm."

"but I don't see why. You just said that I cant leave the farm but you never told me why."

"why? Because I said so boy."

"thats not fair!" Starlight slammed his hooves on the table making the loose plates and silverware clang.

Both starlight and sunshine stared into each others eyes. Each waiting for the other to back down.

"ahem," delilah cleared her throat catching both the boys attention. "dear would it be so bad for the family to leave the farm for just a couple days. The sun festival is coming up and it could be educational for starlight."

"the sunlight festival? You want our son to go to the center of pony kind during a celebration of the beginning of equastria? Absolutely not."

"I don't see why he cant go."

"and I don't see why you would suggest this. Considering."

considering? What was he talking about.

"If we keep him in sight then we don't have to worry about…" delilah trailed off when her husband snorted at her.

"what are you talking about?" Starlight pipped in eyes darting from both his parents.

His ma he noted was scared and she had her head bowed.

His pa had a dirty look on his face clearly locked onto to him.

"don't worry about it, boy. We arent going anywhere. End of discussion." sunshine back to eating his food. This time he ate more like starlight taking huge hoof full portions and chewing rapidly but still througoughly.

"but why not! Its not fair!" Starlight exclaimed.

"I don't have to explain myself. Just trust that what I do is in your best interest."

"in my best interest or yours."

"boy, we are no longer talking about this. Now sit down and wait for dinner to be over. Don't make me ask again."

Starlight snorted, pushing himself from the table, the boy looked at his father as he pushed his chair into the table then glared at him as he stormed to his room.

"boy you werent excused. Get back here."

starlight slammed his door in reponse then looked around his room and let out a scream at his stupid pa.

I knew he wouldnt listen! His mind screamed to himself. I hate it here!
