Since I have recently played all of the games, the Syberia-verse has been on my mind a lot lately. I simply love its story and beauty! Therefore, I decided that it would be the perfect fandom to fulfill some of the assignments for my recent writing challenges/events.
Imagine my surprise, however, when I realized that FFN did not have a Syberia section in its Games category. Therefore, I requested one...and now we all have a place to put our favorite Syberia fics!

Death of a Diva
Kate stared down in a sort of sad disbelief at the newspaper that she had found in the Bourgoff compound. At the moment, though, she had more immediately pressing matters on her mind. After all, the brothers had hijacked the train - with Hans and Oscar still in it! However, as she tucked the newspaper into her jacket for safekeeping, she still could not help but to pause and think about the incredible woman whose obituary had been headlined on the front page.
...
Helena Romanski had definitely been a force of nature! Even though they had not known each other for very long, Kate had enjoyed meeting the singer very much. In fact, she had even decided to call the woman soon after the train had departed Aralbad to let her know that she had chosen to travel onwards with Hans and Oscar, rather than to return home to New York immediately.
"I knew you would, my dear," Helena had replied in her beautiful and distinctly accented voice. "There was never any doubt once I knew that dear Hans was here. After all, women like you and me…adventure is in our soul. And what a one we had together…hmm?"
Kate rushed to apologize again for the unforeseen kidnapping attempt at the Komkolzgrad compound. After all, Boris had warned her that Director Borodine was crazy, but she had mistakenly just chalked that up to the obvious disdain between the two disappointed men who had both been discarded and forgotten by their country when their usefulness was over. In hindsight, however, she should have realized that the man's obvious obsession with Helena could have been dangerous.
"Psst," the older woman had demurred, though. "Do not worry yourself over it, my dear. After all, you did rescue me...and I must confess that the experience was exhilarating. These old bones needed one more adventure before they are laid to rest. Therefore, I am grateful to you for it…and for the return of my voice, as well…more than I can ever say. Plus, it was certainly not the first time that an overpassionate admirer has attempted to abduct me, you know." Helena laughed a little before she continued. "Perhaps such stories are best left for another time, however. After all, I certainly do hope that we may meet again someday."
"I would like that, too," Kate had replied truthfully. "I really don't know where this journey will take me, but I promise that if I ever get the chance to visit Aralbad again, I will come to see you."
"I look forward to it, my dear," was the pleased response.
"Please give my best to James," Kate requested, as well, as she thought about the automaton that looked such much like her own mechanical friend, Oscar.
"But, of course," Helena agreed easily, "and do take care of dear Hans for me."
Then after the final farewells were given, the call ended, and Helena was gone.
That would be the last time that Kate would ever hear the famous diva's voice firsthand, but she knew…even then…that she would treasure the memory of her time with the remarkable woman forever.
...
For the present moment, however, Kate shook her head as she forced herself to push such bittersweet thoughts to the background…at least for the time being. After all, she knew that she really needed to focus on her rescue plan first.
Nevertheless, she also knew that there would be plenty of time to mourn for Helena later…once Hans and Oscar were safe…and she was finally back together with them again.
