Chapter 1

"I Just Want to Say a Few Words…"

I just want to say a few words about ghosts at an abandoned theme park.

I've just been through one. Or rather, me and my friends have. When it comes to abandoned locations, you either have two choices: you can run from it or you can go in it. In our line of work, we've always ran into abandoned locations. We're ghost hunters, we're Mystery Inc. This is what we do, this is our purpose.

But you can see that everything that I am about to relate is true and not fiction. In recent years, myself, Fred Jones and the rest of my team had been trying to get our feet wet once more after having been retired for several years. Wouldn't you know that after one mystery where we got beamed into a video game centered around us, we were thrusted into another one only more scarier than the average video game?

Well, that was what happened.

You see, it all started when we were driving back home from visiting our friend Eric Stouffer at his college and where we got zapped into the video game of our adventures thanks to his so called partner, Bill McLemore. Shaggy and Scooby were fast asleep in the back of the Mystery Machine while Velma was also asleep in her seat, thus, Daphne and I were the only ones still awake. But it was on our van radio that truly began this story.

"Reports are coming in from New Orleans that another disappearance has occurred at the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans theme park. This makes it the 4th disappearance this month and both city and federal officials are baffled as to how to approach this situation."

"Seriously Freddie," I heard Daphne remark as she turned down the radio. "What do people see in that park?

Of course, being paranormal investigators, all we could think of was exactly that…why were people going in such a place.

"Investigators are looking into a series of recent break-ins where people have gone into the park, but have not come back out. The mayor of New Orleans is calling this one of the most bizarre post Katrina incidents in recent memory."

As Daphne and I listened, we both began to get a sense that this was no ordinary series of disappearances. Since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans back in 2005, there had long been suspicion of ghosts wandering the city streets. However, it seemed most of the activity was focused entirely on Six Flags New Orleans.

"A lot from what they are saying," I sighed, turning the radio off. "It's funny, Daph, the last time we were down there, we were dealing with zombies and werecats for our show. Now there are people mysteriously disappearing. You think it could be a ghost or two?"

Daphne looked back to see the sleeping Shaggy and Scooby in the back, Shaggy's hands still clutched onto the video game he and Scooby had been playing all day.

"Most likely," Daphne replied, turning back around and reaching into her purse to check her makeup. "Part of me is thinking we should look into this, but there's also a part of me that wants to leave this to the police."

"Now you are making me think of Beau," I said with a wry smile, thinking back to another of the people we met the last time we were down there. "Wonder what he has been up to."

Daphne then looked back around again, this time at Velma, remembering how close Beau and her were the last time as well.

"Beats me, but he's probably investigating this as well."

The more we brought up this topic, the more it became clear that something was going to be bringing us to New Orleans eventually.

Soon, we arrived at our house and right next to the spare red van that we used as a backup for the Mystery Machine was a black Ford Taurus.

"Hey guys," I said out loud, waking up Velma, Shaggy and Scooby. "Are we expecting anyone?"

"Only Santa Claus," Shaggy yawned. "I want an advanced copy of our game."

"Yeah, Ranta Raus," added Scooby.

"Guys, I'm serious. There's a car on our driveway."

Pulling into the driveway, I could see that the lights were still on, meaning that whoever was here hadn't been here very long. But the question was, how could someone know where we lived?

"Wait here," I ordered to the rest of the gang. "I'm gonna check it out."

Shutting off the engine, I got out of the van and slowly walked to the car, trying to remain cautious. Just as I approached the car again, the car's engine shut off and the door slowly began to open.

"Hello?" I cried. "Can I help you with something?"

Suddenly, I noticed the passenger side door opening on the car and part of me began to get very nervous. Who could possibly be in the car and what could they want with us?

"Freddie, who is it?" Daphne asked as I saw a leg slowly coming out of the driver's side. A few moments later, a man emerged from the car dressed in a brown business suit, white shirt and red necktie. His partner was dressed in a yellow blouse and brown skirt and had yellow hair.

Upon first glance, my heart sank at what we were looking at.

"Detective Beau Neville?" I remarked, feeling flabbergasted at what we were looking at. From inside the Mystery Machine, Velma also couldn't believe what she was seeing either.

"Fred Jones, it's been a while," Beau said and the first part of this story was about to begin.
