Rolling Thunder
Chapter Two
Captain Jake Morrison age 56 years old was happy to be here while his wife Susan had been packing up their things at the Northfork, Virginia Naval yard.
She will be starting her job at the communications center as the change over will take over with the Naval to private for the Nelson Institute. She had thought it was a good idea with the change for her sake of mind.
Her husband Jake had been having issues when it comes to his own physical and mental state needs to get away from the Navy and into the Nelson Institute since he had heard a great deal about what the Institute has done.
Moving out of the green jeep that he had come into the Institute. He had used his right hand to brush his salt & pepper hair into place since there was a slight breeze coming off the ocean. He looked up into the total blue skies with the temperatures in the high eighties with very little humidity. However, there were a lot of seagulls and other types of birds flying around.
He had found it rather odd to see all of those birds flying away all at once as if they sense something was wrong. He was going to mention it to Admiral Nelson.
When he was driving up the coast driving in the jeep from his quarters. He had noticed just how high the tide was at that particular moment. This he had found strange for the most part.
He found a parking lot in a large lot with only a handful of vehicles had been parked. Turning off the engine with moved out with his long lanky legs at a height of six feet two inches and at a weight of 250 pounds to be able to carry the weight really well.
Moving inside the double doors with his ID badge to be shown to the one and only security officer at the moment. "I am here to see Admiral Harriman Nelson, even though I was supposed to see Commander Lee Crane having to be busy elsewhere at the moment." he preceded to say to the young officer telling him to head upstairs to the fifth-floor turning left once he's able to get off the elevator.
"Thanks, for your help officer." Captain Morrison needed to say as he headed down the hall for the elevator and the fifth floor.
Admiral Harriman Nelson had been waiting for Morrison to arrive when finally Angie called him to let him know that the Captain has arrived.
She had opened the door to let the sixth-foot-two-inch captain inside as she was most impressed with the office of the Rolling Thunder.
"Please sit down Captain. Would you care for a drink at least before we get started?" Nelson says with a hint of emotion in his step.
Moving up from his brown swivel chair to head for the small bar counter in the corner. "Tell me Admiral Nelson when I was driving up the coast and here inside the Institute. I have found some strange oddities with the ocean, birds, and other weird items that I can't really explain." he alluded to tell him.
"Now I haven't really noticed since I have been stuck in the office while Commander Lee Crane had been checking out the Rolling Thunder before handing it over to you and your 90 personnel," Nelson said pouring his a Scotch on the rocks for the both of them.
"I had thought that I will be able to talk with Commander Lee Crane." he pointed out...
"However I am it for now Captain. Here you go with the drink right now." he hands him the Scotch on the rocks into his hands while he will take a sip of his while sitting down. "I will need for you to sign some papers in order to make it official with the take over of the Rolling Thunder. " he had a brown envelope filled with paper marks for where he needed to write his name several times.
"Thanks, Admiral for giving me the chance to come here to start a new life with my wife. She will be here at the end of the week depending on how everything goes with the packing," he grumbled under his breath with another sip of the scotch burning his throat and stomach.
"By the way, you're going to have one of the Seaview personnel be working in the engineering to make sure that all goes well with the department and overall in general." Nelson pointed out the information.
"Who is this man you're talking about Admiral?" he will finish the last drop of the Scotch that had burned his throat as he crossed his legs in the brown chair.
"Patterson all around engineer and talented in other areas as well with the Seaview for a very long time. He's supposed to be showing up as well within the next hour. He had taken a ride up the coast with his motorcycle alone since his best friend Kowalski is on the Seaview at the moment running tests in the Pacific." he tells him with an exhaled.
"Sounds like fun Admiral Nelson. I believe that I need to be signing the papers before he arrives and I hope Commander Lee Crane has heard a great deal about him over the years. I was saddened to hear that he gave up his captaincy to take over the Nelson Institute while you're able to continue on with your science work in the labs." Captain Morrison needed to say.
Sometimes later...
Patterson arriving back at the Nelson Institute had a strange story to tell to the both of them as he carried his helmet with him into the building and the security officer to stop him needing his ID badge.
Reaching the fourth floor to be greeted by Angie as she looks up from her computer terminal. She looks up to say to him with a hint of a smile. "How did the motorcycle ride go Pat?"
Thinking about it for the moment.
"Strange, I might add Angie. Was there a small Earthquake registered in the region as I felt the ground shake while I was going around the bend in the canyon? I almost fell off the bike when I was finally on solid ground Angie." he posed with the question shaking his head.
"I haven't heard a word, Patterson. I was able to check with the scientists of the Institute on whether anything strange was happening with possible solar flares. Otherwise nothing else other than the fact that Captain Morrison had something to say about the high tide, birds, and other items he said to Admiral Nelson. By the way, he's waiting for you right now to meet with the captain since you're going to be on the Rolling Thunder.
"Okay, let him know I am here," he ordered with a deep exhale as he waited to go inside.
