Chapter 10
"Merrily We Roll Along"
With Scooby and Shaggy being tormented by one Vomit Monster, all I could do was protect myself from the other one. The Looney Tunes Adventures was narrow and there was no place to hide. What was more was that I didn't have any fighting prowess in me, so I couldn't try to fight back in the same way as Daphne. Still, it didn't hurt to at least try.
Finding a metal pipe in front of the Bugs Bunny Barnstormers attraction, I swung it at the vomit monster, trying to keep it back from me.
"Get back! Back!" I cried, but the creature wasn't going to listen to me. Roaring, he swung his blob hand at me as I retreated into one of the abandoned planes. All I could think of was trying to find a way to escape the beast, but I couldn't without Shaggy and Scooby. Taking the metal pipe again, I thought that standing at an angle would at least give me an advantage, but it didn't.
Suddenly, the ride turned itself on and the planes started to take to the air. The children's ride atmosphere the ride previously had was gone and all I could do was hold on for dear life and fighting a giant vomit monster at the same time. But the creature and the possessed ride would both put me at a disadvantage as I suddenly began to lose my balance and nearly fall out of the airplane.
Taking his paw, the creature swung at me and much to my horror, he knocked off my glasses!
"My glasses!" I cried, knowing that I couldn't see without them. Roaring in triumph, the creature placed his claws on my shoulder and picked me up into the air. Once we flew over the pavement, he threw me off and I went down screaming. Pulling myself together, I heard the creature roar and tower over me.
Without my glasses and with Scooby and Shaggy being occupied by the other vomit monster, I was a dead duck.
As the creature prepared to finish me off, I suddenly heard the sounds of gunshots and the vomit creature roaring in pain. This caught the attention of the other vomit monster, causing it turn away from Shaggy and Scooby only for the bullets to hit it too. Several more shots were fired and the creatures roared loudly in pain with each fired shot.
After a few moments, the carnage stopped, but I still couldn't see without my glasses. What's more was I couldn't get myself back up onto my feet. I had been injured and I couldn't see where the pain was.
"Ms. Dinkley, are you all right?" I heard a female voice ask me.
"Velma, what happened?" I heard Shaggy cry out, but I couldn't see him.
"Beau, its Gordon," I heard the female voice say again, knowing that it was Agent Gordon who had come to rescue me. "I need an ambulance and paramedics to the Looney Tunes Adventures section immediately!"
I then began to be rolled over on my back as I felt the sharp pain come through my left leg. It was apparent that my leg had been broken when I was thrown off of the Barnstormers ride, but I refused to believe it.
"Velma, you'll be okay," I heard Shaggy say with his voice quivering. "You'll be okay."
That was the last voice I heard before drifting in and out of consciousness.
…
When I opened my eyes again, I heard the sounds of monitors beeping and I found myself surrounded by Shaggy and the others.
"Wha…what happened?"
"Velma, thank goodness you're okay!" I heard Daphne cry out, but because my glasses were missing, I couldn't see her. "Can you see us?"
"N..no," I replied weakly. "How did…how did I get here?"
"Vel," I heard Shaggy say as I turned to my left. "Scooby and I have a confession to make, we got enticed by food. Like, I didn't know you would get hurt because of us."
"Reah, Rorry," Scooby said sadly.
It was clear that Shaggy and Scooby felt terrible about my situation, but I was grateful to be alive. Just then, Fred took a pair of my glasses and placed them on my face giving me the ability to see again. All my friends were indeed there and Daphne had on her usual purple dress and green scarf instead of her purple and green business suit. What's more was that Daphne had on bandages and face and body.
"Daphne, what happened…?" I started to ask.
"Long story, Velma. But let's just say that Catwoman was involved and I got attacked by feral cats."
"Catwoman? Feral Cats?"
"And the Joker," Fred added. "Who knew that our favorite comic book characters were real ghosts?"
"Or maybe…" I moaned, feeling a sharp pain in my chest. "They are just people in masks."
"They aren't people in masks, Velma," Beau said, as he and Agent Gordon stood at the end of my hospital bed. "Daphne and Fred said that Catwoman just disappeared when I arrived to help them."
"I think he's trying to weaken us," Daphne suggested, much to the surprise of all of us. "I think the Reverend is trying to weaken us by bringing these ghosts back to life."
I then saw Daphne walk to the mirror and look at herself in it.
"He wants me and he wants you out of the way," she said, nervously fidgeting with her green scarf. "So, he's trying to weaken us by sending these ghosts out to confront us."
But everyone refused to believe Daphne's story because we weren't just going to give up that easily. Daphne was our friend and we weren't going to let her fall prey to some crazed ghost, even at the cost of my own health.
…
Meanwhile, back at Six Flags New Orleans, Jocco the Jester was brought before the Reverend inside his attraction.
"My servant," the Reverend said. "You've gathered enough followers to further increase my strength. What's more, my target's protection has been weakened."
"Then can you help me regain this whole land?"
"Not yet. You must bring me some more followers tonight, only then when I am at my fullest strength, can I give you what you so desire."
The Reverend then proceeded to pick up a sense.
"Hmm, you may earn what you so desire in due time," he said. "There are more souls for you to obtain and one of them is a virgin."
"What, my master?"
"A virgin will give me the desire that I long for, something I have not had for a long time. Now bring them to me!"
So the Reverend left and Jocco was left to carry out his orders, but he had his own reservations about what the Reverend wanted him to do.
