REMUS LETTER

The next day, during midday, the students were doing their homework at the great hall. There was some chattering, and Alex could hear from the Slytherin table a boy trying some kind of spell. "Turn this water into rum? What kind of spell is that?". She was focussing on her Transfiguration homework when the mail arrived. She wasn't expecting anything, after all, who was going to write to her? Lucius? Yeah, not happening. However, an owl landed right in front of her, with a letter on its mouth. At first, she was confused, but then she reacted. She knew that owl, she had seen it before. It was Remus owl. She grabbed the letter from the owl with a big smile on her face, and opened the brown envelope.

"Dear Alex. It's been a while since we talked or wrote to each other. I understand that maybe the Malfoys didn't let you write to me or read my letters. After all, they took you away from me. However, it doesn't matter much anymore. Now you are at Hogwarts and we can write to each other as many times as we want to. I wish I could visit you, since I miss you every day, but that's not an option, unfortunately.

I hope you are doing great in your first days at Hogwarts. It is a great opportunity and an amazing experience. Have you made some friends? What's your favourite class so far? And your favourite teacher? I remember when I went to Hogwarts and I met your parents and the rest of my friends. We used to get in a lot of trouble. Hope you don't do the same! I was fascinated by the Defence against the dark arts class, it was my favourite by far. And my favourite teacher…Probably McGonagall. Not sure she can say the same about me or your father. Which house were you sorted in? I'm sure that whatever house it is, it totally fits you. You have so much talent, you always had…

I'll be waiting for your response. I hope you have a great time over there. I hope you learn so many things. I hope you are doing well. I miss you.

She couldn't believe her eyes. It was Remus calligraphy. It was really him! She lost count of how many times she read the letter. Draco, who was sitting right in front of her, noticed the letter on her hand and the grin on her face. He knew it must have been from his uncle.

- It's from him, right? - he smiled at her. By her look, he was correct. - I'm happy for you! It's been a long time, isn't it?

- Yeah…Way too long… - he always wondered what kind of life she had before she arrived with his family. One time, he asked his mother why she was living with them. "Her parents are gone, and she was being awfully raised". Alex didn't talk much about her life before the Malfoys, but from the looks of it, her uncle had never mistreated her, quite the opposite. She was happy, she didn't have any troubles. Actually, her troubles had begun when she came to live with the Malfoys. And he felt bad for that. She was a good person, and she always treated him well. It wasn't fair for her.

- You should write him back! Here, have some paper! - Draco gave her a paper sheet and Alex took it.

- Thank you, Draco! I'll start right now! - she had a big smile on her face. Draco liked her smile. It was bright, peaceful…even beautiful.

With that, Alex started writing down her letter to Uncle Remus.

"Dear Uncle Remus. I'm so happy to hear from you! I miss you so much! You have no idea what it is like to live with the Malfoys, especially Lucius…He is a nightmare! But it's not all that bad! Draco, the Malfoys' son, is my friend. At first, we didn't talk that much, but he is pretty nice…sometimes haha. I used to write to you from time to time, but it was hard to send the letters with Lucius around, and he didn't let me read yours either…I'm sorry about it. Are you okay? I think a lot about you. You can be a disaster sometimes, and I used to get you out of trouble so…I wonder if you still need my help to figure out your problems hahaha.

Hogwarts is amazing! I'm having a blast and I'm also learning a lot! I made a new friend. Her name is Hermione, and she is super smart and she loves studying, so I try to sit next to her all the time so I don't get distracted. We talk about the classes, and homework, and it's really fun! There're also two twins, the Weasleys, who seem to be pretty nice, although they are a couple years older than me. I haven't talked much to them.

Right now, I'll say that my favourite class is transfiguration. Professor McGonagall is strict, but the class is really interesting. She is an Animagus! I wonder if I can be one too…That way I could go with you on full moon nights and take care of you! I also like potions, but professor Snape is kind of scary…He wasn't very nice to Harry Potter on our first day. That's right! Harry Potter, the boy who survived, is here too! I haven't talked to him yet but it's cool to have someone as famous as him around, isn't it? Draco doesn't like him, but…he doesn't like many people either way.

As for the house…I got sorted out in Slytherin. At first that got me worried. There's a lot of students who have a really bad perception about the Slytherin house. But I don't think there's something like a bad house. I think all of them are great. And yes, there's some people who are not very nice in Slytherin, but also in other houses! Besides, our common room is awesome. I haven't seen the other ones, but the Slytherin room is beautiful! I love it! I'm having a great time, really. I wish I could see you.

By the way…It's probably nothing but…Something happened. There were some students that backed off from me the moment that I told them my name. And when they called me at the sorting ceremony, a lot of students looked at me…funny. I know you don't like to talk about my parents. But I was wondering if this has something to do with them. Especially with my dad, since I'm carrying his last name…Either way, don't worry about it! Whatever it is I'll figure it out and fix it, like I always do!

She didn't want to worry Remus about it, but she was curious about that behaviour on her fellow classmates. And if it had something to do with her parents…Remus would know about it. But, would he tell her?
