Chief Petty Officer Pete "Buffer" Tomaszewski was walking into the mall when he received a text message. When he checked the message, he smiled and walked into the store. He walked around searching for the sender of the text message.

Looking around in the men's department, he heard "Excuse me". Turning around, he saw a woman in her thirties who looked like she'd just come from the spa, with her hair and makeup all done up, and wearing expensive clothing and jewelry…including the high heeled shoes that Nikki had showed him last week.

LAST WEEK

"Pete, look at these ugly shoes. There is no way I would wear them or pay two thousand dollars for them!" showing him the picture in the newspaper.

"They are ugly all right! What happened to the shoes they used to have years ago? They are way better than these!"

"I agree…plus we could buy a dozen or more for the price of these."

"That, and clothes." Smiling, Pete pointed to the picture of a woman wearing the latest Victoria's Secret collection.

"Pete! Behave yourself!"

"Well, you do look sexy wearing them. The expensive shoes are a big turn off to me." Nikki wacked Pete with the newspaper.

"Well, it's true."

PRESENT

"Can I help you, Ma'am?" Pete asked when he noticed her checking him out.

"Yes. Where are the men's boxer shorts…the silk ones?"

"Sorry, Ma'am. I don't work here."

"Yes, you do."

"Sorry, Ma'am…I don't. As for the underwear area, there are two aisles that way, Ma'am" he said pointing.

"Well, show me where they are" she said with a tone of superiority.

"No, Ma'am. As I said, I don't work here. Look at what I'm wearing…do I look like a staff member, Ma'am?" He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. The staff all wore black pants and a red top with the shop logo on it.

"How dare you talk to me like that!"

"I'm talking to you like that because of the way you talked to me. I don't know who the hell you are. Don't expect me to take you to where you want to go when I already told you where to look for the items you want. Now, excuse me…I'm going to carry on with my shopping, Ma'am." Pete turned and walked down the aisle…and heard her following him.

"How dare you talk to me like that! No one talks to me like that and walks away. You do work here, take me to the items right now" She yelled after him.

The commotion caused a number of shoppers to look over, only to see a muscle-built, tattooed man walk away from a yelling woman.

Pete walked down another aisle picking up a couple more items…fully aware the crazy woman was following. He kept on going until he reached the kids' department. Picking up a couple of items, he hears "How dare you ignore me. I told you to take me where the boxers are."

Buffer turned back, and saw a staff member with two security guards walking towards them.

"I told you I don't work here, lady. Now leave me to do my shopping in peace."

"No, you do as I say, or i'll have you fired."

"If you want a staff member who actually works here, there is one behind you."

"You do work here" she continued to yell, stomping her feet like a five year old.

"I told you I don't work here, the woman behind you does, she has on the store uniform." As Pete walked past her, she grabbed his arm.

He stopped, looking at her clutch on his arm, and looking into her face said "If you don't let me go I will restrain you…and I am highly trained in restraining people."

"You don't look tough to me" she said, then slapped him across his face. Pete kept his cool.

"Ma'am, let this gentleman go. He does not work here."

"Yes, you're just covering for him" She said not taking her eyes off of Pete.

"Ma'am, if you don't let him go, you will be arrested and banned from this store." Turning around, she sees a woman wearing the store uniform and two security guards standing next to her.

"You're just covering for him…you must like him" she said with a smirk.

Pete saw who was walking towards him pushing a trolley. When she'd heard and saw what was happening, she stepped forward. "Hey, get your claws off my husband!" Nikki turned to look at her.

"He's not your husband, he works here."

Nikki lifted her left hand showing her wedding and engagement ring.

"I am married to him…look at his left hand!" Pete showed the woman his left hand, showing his wedding ring.

Nikki put her hand on the woman's wrist, pulling her away from Pete. "You leave my husband alone."

"How dare you touch me…I'll have you charged for assault."

"More likely, my husband will have you charged for assault and harassment. You are very luck he knows how to control his actions."

Turning to Pete, he stepped forward and kissed her.

"My hero!"

"Ma'am, I want you to leave this store" the staff member said.

"No, I can shop anywhere I want to." She stepped forward and slapped the staff member across the face. "You can't tell me…hey let go of me!" she yelled when the two security guards grabbed her arms.

"How dare you touch me…I'll sue you all!" She continued to fight as they took her away.

The staff member stepped forward towards Pete and Nikki. "I'm sorry about that."

"It's OK, Ma'am."

"If you can follow me, I'll need some information for my report. Because she assaulted a staff member, she will be banned from this and all of our stores around the country."

Nikki and Pete got their IDs out, and handed them to her.

"Here is where you can contact us." Nikki said.

"Thank you." She looked at the two cards…"You're in the Navy!"

"Yes, Ma'am." Pete said.

"Ma'am, when you said your husband knows how to control his actions, I had no idea what you meant by that…until seeing your cards."

"It's what we are trained to do, Ma'am." Pete said.

"OK, thank you for your service for this country."

"You're welcome, Ma'am." Nikki said.

"When you reach the counter, ask for me". They saw her nametag read Annie, and in smaller writing under her name read Duty Manager.

"We will."

"Enjoy your shopping…and once again, I'm sorry". They shook hands, turned and walked away.

"Wow, what a strange encounter" Nikki said as they stepped towards the trolley.

"It sure was." Pete put the items into the trolley. Nikki noticed tee shirt, picked it up and smiled.

"Boat Pete."

"Yeah, they didn't have any navy boats." Nikki laughed as she put it back into the trolley.

"Well, our son sure is a water boy!"

"That he is…after all, you did give birth to him while in the bath."

"That's true. It would be great to have another child." Pete pulled Nikki into his arms and kissed her.

"How about we finish shopping and head home so we can work on baby number two?"

"Pete, are you feeling OK?"

"Well, that command tone you use, that turns me on." Nikki smiled.

"Better than me wearing those ugly shoes that crazy woman was wearing?"

"That is a big turn off." Nikki smiled.

"That it is!" They kissed once more, then continued their shopping.

When they reached the counter some twenty minutes later, Annie saw them and walked over.

"Hi" Annie said.

"Hi, what happened to that crazy woman?" Nikki asked.

"The police came and arrested her. She was charged for the assault on me and one of the guards. Plus, she has been banned for life from all or our stores."

"Thanks for letting us know."

"The police are going to call Mr. Tomaszewski for a report about what happened here today. They will want to know if you are going to charge her for the assault and harassment."

"I'll think about it, Ma'am" Pete said.

"OK, Jane. When you ring them up give them a twenty-five percent discount."

"Why Annie…you know what the boss is going to do if he finds out." Annie just smiled.

"He knows. It is compensation for what this gentleman has been through today while shopping."

"That crazy woman the police took away…I understand."

"Good." Annie turned to Nikki and Buffer…"Enjoy the rest of your day, and once again, I'm so sorry for what you went through."

"It's OK, Ma'am. It's not the first time we've dealt with crazy people like her."

"In your line of work, I have no doubt you do come across different people."

"We do, Ma'am, we do" Nikki said.

Annie returned back to work, watching Nikki and Pete walk towards the exit with their arms around each other.

Pete and Nikki gave the police their statements the following day. They decided not to press charges against the woman, since the store had already done so. She was found guilty, and sent to six months in prison.

The End.
