In an unknown place
We see a figure dressed in familiar armor kneeling behind a throne

Land
At the SHIELD base at night. They are evacuating by helicopter and vehicle, and a helicopter lands, leaving Rita and Jack Mcbride behind while Agent Lynn. Mr. Coulson waits for them.
Jack: How bad is it?
Agent Lynn.Sr: That's the problem, sir. We do not know
The three enter the facility, passing the fleeing technicians, taking only the essentials]
Lynn.Sr: Dr. David read an energy surge from the Tesseract four hours ago.
Jack: NASA didn't clear Selvig for the testing phase.
Lynn.Sr: I wasn't testing it, I wasn't even in the room. Spontaneous advance.
Rita: Did it just turn on by itself?
Jack: What are the energy levels?
Lynn.Sr: Climbing. When David couldn't put it out, we ordered an evacuation.
Jack: How long to get everyone out?
Lynn.Sr: The campus should be clear in the next half hour.
Jack: Do better.
Lynn.Sr: I'm doing the best I can.
They keep walking into the depths of the facility
Rita: Sir, the evacuation may be useless.
Jack: Should we tell them to go back to sleep?
Rita: If we can't control the energy of the Tesseract, there may not be a safe minimum distance.
Jack: I need you to make sure the Phase 2 prototypes are shipped.
Rita: Sir, is that really a priority right now?
Jack: Until the moment the world ends, we'll act like it's meant to keep spinning. Clean technology below. Each Phase 2 piece on a truck and gone.
Rita: Yes sir (He turns to the nearby agents) Come with me.
Jack and Agent Lynn.Sr enter the radiation facility housing the Tesseract, the area is packed with machines and people leaving.
Jack: Talk to me doctor.
Dr. David appears from behind a CMS machine, worried. The Tesseract is glowing unusually brighter and a blue flash shoots out, hitting random things.
Dr. David: Director.
Jack: Is there anything we know for sure?
David: The Tesseract is misbehaving.
Jack: Is that supposed to be funny?
David: No, it's not fun at all. The Tesseract is not only active, it has way too much energy than it had before.
Jack: Do you think you can turn it off?
David: She is a source of energy. If we turn off the power, she turns it back on. If you reach the maximum level...
Jach: We have prepared for this doctor. Harnessing the energy of space.
David: Yes but this is too much. Our calculations are far from complete. Now it's emitting interference, radiation. Nothing harmful, low levels of radiation Ours.
Jack: That can be harmful. Where is santiago?
David: You mean the Falcon? It's up in its nest, I think living with a parrot made the habit of a bird stick.
We see Bobby Santiago, dressed in black tactical gear, at the railing watching them below.
Jack: (calls him) Agent Santiago, report.
Bobby rappels down the catwalk and approaches Fury. Both walk in the background of the installation discreetly.
Jack: I gave you this detail so you could keep a close eye on things.
Bobby: Sorry manager but I like this one upstairs. I see better from a distance.
Jack: Are you seeing something that could trigger this?
Scientist: (To Dr. David) Doctor, it's firing again.
Bobby: No one has come or gone. Your oven is clean. No contacts, no instant messages. If there was any tampering, sir, it wasn't at this end.
Jack: At this end?
Bobby: Yeah, the cube is a gate to the other end of space, right? The doors open on both sides.
Dr. David types on his keyboard and the monitor flickers. Suddenly, the Tesseract thunders and shakes the entire facility. Both Agent Lynn.Sr nearby and Rita upstairs feel the tremors. The cube glows brighter and emits a ring of light, and is built like lightning, similar to the Bifrost Bridge. The power hits the edge of the platform and begins to form a vortex, which turns into a portal.
Space appears through the portal and a blast of blue energy drives people back. The cloud shoots up to the ceiling and the portal on the platform opens as Loki enters. The portal vanishes and Loki smiles at everyone, holding up his spear. He frowns when he sees them looking at him.
Jack: Sir, please lower the spear.
Loki responds by firing a blast of blue energy from his spear, while Bobby knocks Jack down to shield him from the blasts.
They all start shooting at Loki, but the bullets deflect off of him. Loki immediately knocks down all who shoot at him with ease, with knives and energy blasts from his scepter. He pauses, smiling, and looks to see who will attack him next.
Bobby tries to attack him, but Loki grabs his wrist and disarms him.
Loki: You have a heart.
Loki places the tip of the spear against Bobby's chest.
Bobby's eyes turn black and he stops resisting. Loki begins to control other agents in the room.
Jack sneaks up, grabs the Tesseract and places it in a briefcase, trying to sneak away.
Loki: (looks at him) Please, no. I still need that.
Jack: (turning to Loki) This doesn't have to get any more complicated.
Loki: Of course I do. I've come too far for anything else. I am Loki of Asgard, and I am charged with glorious purpose.
David: Loki? Lori's brother?
Jack: We have nothing against your people.
Loki: An ant had no problem with a boot.
Jack: Are you planning to step on us?
Loki: I come with good news, from a world made free.
Jack: Free from what?
Loki: Freedom. Freedom is the great lie of life. Once you accept that, in your heart...
Loki turns to Selvig, who is standing behind him, and places his spear against Selvig's heart. Selvig's eyes glow black.
Loki: You will know peace.
Jack: Yes, you say peace, I think you mean the other thing.
From the ceiling of the vacuum chamber, the Tesseract's cloud of energy rapidly becomes what could be an implosion.
Bobby: Sir, Principal Jack is stalling. This place is about to explode. Drop a hundred feet of rock on us. He wants to bury us.
Jack: Like the pharaohs of old.
Dave: You're right. The portal is collapsing in on itself. You have maybe two minutes before this goes critical.
Loki: Well then.
Loki looks at Bobby, who without hesitation shoots Jack, who falls to the ground. Bobby grabs the case containing the Tesseract and leaves the lab with Loki, David, and the rest of the SHIELD-controlled personnel.
Controlled SHIELD personnel are gathering weapons and preparing to leave the facility.
Rita looks at them confused.
Bobby: [Pointing to Loki and his team] I need these vehicles.
Rita: (looks at Loki) Who is that?
Bobby: He didn't tell me.
Rita watches them suspiciously as they get into a truck and start to drive away.
Jack: (grabbing a walkie talkie) Rita, do you hear me?
Loki and his team look at Rita.
Back in the lab, Jack is sitting up, pulling the bullet out and breathing heavily.
Jack: Bobby……he betrayed us.
Rita gasps and turns around and shoots Bobby, who is already shooting at her, and they walk away as she takes cover, continuing to shoot at them.
Jack ran out of the lab, clutching his side.
Jack: He's got the Tesseract! Trace it!
The Tesseract's energy discharge is building up on the ceiling, recklessly rumbling and growing, destroying structures and cracking walls.
Rita gets into a jeep and chases after Loki and the crew. Several other trucks also begin attacking Loki's truck, and Loki releases a blast of energy, destroying the SHIELD trucks and causing a blockage in the tunnel.
Rita is forced to keep her distance in pursuit.
Downstairs Jack races against the clock as pipes burst around him. The walls are cracking and the facility is experiencing an internal earthquake.
Agent Lynn.Sr is grabbing boxes and stumbles down the stairs as the ground shakes. Others with him leave boxes full of information and equipment.
Lynn.Sr: (stops him) No! Leave it alone!
They all leave the cases behind and leave the lab running.
Bobby and Rita get caught up in a truck race, where she pulls up in front of him to try and block him. He responds by shooting her at point-blank range, causing Rita to shoot out her own windshield to try and hit him.
Lynn.Sr and his group take a Jeep and evacuate as well.
Lynn.Sr: [into walkie talkie] That's clear, sir! You need to go!
Jack runs down the runway towards a helicopter. The ground gives way seconds after the helicopter takes off, falling into a sinkhole.
Still running through the tunnel, Rita and Bobby are locked in a fight. A shock wave from the Tesseract causes the tunnel to partially collapse. One of Loki's trucks manages to get out, but Rita's truck is stuck.
The Tesseract's energy cloud is now reduced to a small ball of white light, floating in the air. In a flash of blue light, the facility is consumed along with its surroundings.
Jack watches from below as a rapid buildup turns into an implosion.
Several miles away, Lynn.Sr's truck shakes from the shock wave on the horizon behind them.
The entire facility implodes with terrifying magnitude, and the implosion shakes the ground.
Rita is stuck, her jeep trailing behind as the force of the explosion brings down the tunnel, taking cover by being inside the jeep, the night light spilling in nearby.
Bobby's truck drives away, but Jack's helicopter closes in on it and Jack opens fire with his pistol. Loki, in a fit of rage, fires an energy blast at the helicopter. The helicopter brushes against the explosion, but catches fire.
Jack grabs the pilot by the throat and the two of us jump out of the burning helicopter seconds before it hits the ground and turns to rubble.
Jack steps back, stunned, and shoots at Loki, but they are too far away.
Lynn.Sr: (via walkie talkie) Director? Director Jack, do you read me?
Jack: The tesseract is with the hostile force. I have men below. Rita?
Rita: (getting out of the wreckage of her jeep) There are still many men below, I don't know how many survivors.
Jack: General call is ringing. I want every living soul that doesn't work rescue to look for that briefcase.
Rita: (using a walkie talkie) Roger that.
Jack: Lynn.Sr, go back to base. This is a level seven. From now on, we are at war.
Lynn.Sr: What do we do?
Jack: (thinks about it) We have to get them together.
