There were days that sometimes, Lily couldn't help but wish she had never been born. When those intrusive thoughts would cross her mind, she couldn't help but feel guilty. After all, she was the sole survivor of a fatal car crash caused by her drunken father. Well, that was what her aunt would tell her anytime she asked about her parents. How her mother and father were irresponsible drunkards that didn't love her. How it hurt how many times she was told how unloved she was.
She couldn't help but feel if her parents had actually been at fault for the crash, they would have appreciated surviving it. Unlike her, the unappreciative freak. Unfortunately, today was another day that made death sound better than living at Private Drive. She hurt all over the last beating her uncle put her through was a week ago, and she still felt it as though it happened yesterday. Today was Dudley's birthday and her day was already filled with chores, endless chores and her body ached so badly. She already had to make a special breakfast spread for the birthday boy. Her Aunt was at the table watching her like a hawk waiting for her to mess up so she could hit her with the frying pan again. The last time definitely, left an impression on Lily. That concussion was horrible after she passed out, they threw her in her cupboard for the rest of the day. She was determined to make sure breakfast was perfect for Dudley. She was already hurting and didn't want to add another injury to her current list of pains. Another meal made with care that she had to cook but wasn't allowed to partake in.
Before she could even think about pocketing some toast her aunt already sent her out to tend the garden. So here she was in broad daylight with a black eye, busted lip, and a limp. Lily couldn't stop flinching every step she took. Biting her tongue so she wouldn't cry out as her legs decided to just stop working. She fell to her knee's tears in her eyes as she noticed Mrs. Johnson their neighbor closes the curtains so she wouldn't have to see Lily taint her glorious morning view of Private drive. Lily couldn't stop the sneer that crossed her face that garbage of a women. Everyone on private drive was human trash as far as she was concerned. When she was younger, she would ask for help anytime she could. Of course, none of the neighbors would do anything no matter what they saw or heard. Her Aunt and Uncle weaved a truly tragic story of how little Lily was a delinquent ever since her parents' death. After all it was in her blood to cause trouble. All her bruises caused by fights she started. The eye patch she always wore on her left eye from an 'accident' no one seemed to question. She was nothing but bad news and all these garbage people believed it. Never letting their kids play with her. Wouldn't even wave to say hello anytime she was in the front yard. Fuck them, fuck all of them. I hope all of them fuck up and no one helps them she sneered as that thought crossed her mind.
At least today she would have some time to herself outside. She sighed in pleasure as she laid on her back just soaking the sun in. The warmth and light felt so nice compared to how cold and dark her cupboard was. What she wouldn't give to be able to go outside whenever she wanted. Listening to the birds chirping was so soothing. She couldn't stop herself from grinning when she heard the familiar hiss in the hedges. Of course, this would be the moment she heard the door start to open. Lily rushed to stand gritting her teeth in pain as she scrambled to put herself in front of where she heard the snake coming from so her family wouldn't see. She didn't want them to kill this one. Her Uncle Vernon stormed his way out the door. That stupid walrus of a man had the audacity to sneer at her. She hated him so much every step he took a step she would swear she felt the ground shake.
His stride strong his whole body shaking until he stopped in front of her grabbing her face squeezing her face with his sausage fingers spittle flying in her face as he spoke " Freak, today is a special day we will be taking Dudley to the Zoo." He squeezed her face harder.
" We will be locking the house. Can't have your freakishness messing up our lovely home. " His face turning beet red as he spoke. " Here is your list of chores for the day. If this list isn't done by the time, I get home expect a beating." He had such an ugly smile on his face as his beedy beetle eyes sparkled in joy at the thought of beating her.
"Yes, Uncle Vernon," she whispered. He let go of her face. Lily watched as the Dursley family got in their car and drove away. She would have loved to go to the Zoo she had never been. Looking at the list of chores Lily couldn't control the rage she felt as she saw that half of her chores were in the house, they locked her out of. Vernon left smiling knowing his punching bag would fail and he would get some stress relief.
Well, if I am going to be beat anyway why not just rest today. Lily stretched her arms above her head as she tilted her face toward the sun. Today she was going to do what she wanted. She was determined to enjoy herself a little today. She glanced in the yard and, she found that there wasn't anything pleasing to do beside weed the roses. She definitely wouldn't be playing any games with friends or going to anyone's house she didn't know anyone that she could even visit. Moments like these I really do wish I had a friend she sighed. Since there isn't anyone to stop me today, I am going to get away from Private drive she grinned as she started to limp down the road. She wandered around the boring streets of Little Whinging, taking the long route to the neighborhood park.
Lily sat alone on a park bench, smiling as she listened to the sound of children laughing as they played. She watched as a little girl fell crying as she scraped her knees. The childs parent's came running hugging her and putting a band –aid on her knees. Her mom kissed the boo-boo whipping the tears from her eyes. The girl gave her mom a watery smile already feeling better she ran to play. This would normally be a heartwarming scene of familial love. The longer Lily watched the tighter she clenched her fists as her rage consumed her. She felt something wet drip from her hands only to notice she was gripping her fist so hard her nails cut into her palms. The smile she once had replaced with a sneer.
Yes of course, Lily thought, her existence was pretty miserable. Today was definitely, a day she was allowed to wish that she had never been born. With that thought she felt a slight pain in her temple as the sound of something cracking echoed in her head unheard by anyone but her.
Lily sat at that bench for hours glaring at all the happy families until it was just her the park had been empty for hours and the streetlights had turned on. She wasn't in a hurry to get home she knew what was waiting for her was far from pleasant. After all she was limping home to a beating. No need to rush she thought as she pulled her raven hair into a ponytail that she found on the ground as she started limping home. She saw the house in the distance all the lights off except for the porch light. Of course, her uncle was standing their waiting for her. As soon as she was close her grabbed her arm dragging her into the house not wanting the neighbors to hear. As soon as that front door closed with a bang, she felt terror grip her heart as she saw her uncles face. She knew she wouldn't survive tonight.
"Freak!" He hissed at her as he gripped her arm like a vice. She was trapped "WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?!"
Lily tried to pull away, "What does it matter you're going to hurt me no matter what I say," she flinched as she saw him raising his other hand. She tried to run but couldn't get out of his grip as her uncle slapped her across the face. He let go of her only for her to fall to the floor. She tried to crawl away, but he grabbed her by her hair. Lily cried her eyes watering as he pulled her to her feet by her hair. Her uncle pinned her to the wall and started using her as a punching bag. The walrus of a man was taking his anger out on the tiny girl. Lily sobbed as she begged him to stop. Nothing she said would make the man pause if anything he would hit harder the more sound she made. After what felt like hours but actually was just minutes, Vernon dragged the semi-conscious girl to the cupboard under the stairs locking her inside.
Lily lay on her bed blood soaking into the sheets everywhere hurt. She gasped unable to breath as she couldn't stop dry heaving. Her broken body kept tried to empty her belly only for nothing to come out. She felt like she was drowning, she clawed at her neck. Something was wrong. Terribly, wrong she coughed only for blood to start pouring from her mouth. Everything was going dark she had to be dying. Whimpering in the dark as she heard another crack that hurt her head. The sound so sharp she felt nauseous as she let the darkness take her. The smile on her face as she welcomed Death like an old friend. The shadows in her cupboard grew darker she shivered as the room grew colder. Goose bumps rose on Lily's skin as a figure rose from the shadows. A skeletal hand reached from under a cloak petting her raven hair so gently. The first moment of her life where she was treated with any form of kindness would of course be when she would be unable to enjoy it.
"Your time here is done little one. The prophecy here no longer relevant. My darling, the wizarding world will have to find a new way to fix their problems without you my lovely Lily." The being made of shadows whispered as Lily began to fade away.
