In a world deprived of any light the body of Lily floated in the dark abyss that was the land in-between. Lily woke, gasping for breath her back arched as she tried to grab something to help ground her. She flailed as she didn't make contact with anything and the sensation of falling disoriented her more. She was numb her head was still foggy, like the winter night her aunt locked her out of the house; she had been sitting out in the cold too long; she felt nothing. It was nice. How strange for the first time in who knows how long she wasn't in pain. She stretched her arms above her head and savored the ability to move without any aches hindering her. Her last memory was of darkness consuming her as she drowned in her own blood. The comfort she felt as someone stroked her hair during her last breaths. She had to be dead. For the first time in her life, she was happy. Her parents would be with her soon. She waited in that never ending darkness. Waiting for someone to come anyone but no one ever did. Her despair grew the longer she stayed floating in the abyss. Nothing frightened her more than being truly alone. As her eyes adjusted, she started to notice her surroundings.

First, she noticed that it was quiet. Not a natural quiet, there was nothing peaceful about this silence. It was frightening she felt so cold and alone. She stopped herself from fidgeting. Like a statue she floated listening to the world around her. There was absolutely no sound other than her rapid breathing. The sound of her breathing was muffled. She held her breath as panic started to set in. The silence was horrifying she silently sobbed in that abyss her tears floating around her. Without a sun to help her tell time she could have been there for hours, days maybe even years. Forever floating this had to be her punishment for all her negative thoughts. This must be hell with that realization Lily's mind shattered. Her smile twisted eyes rimmed red from her tears. In this abyss her greatest enemy was herself. After all she deserved this. In her desperation for company this was the day her mind split. And her only true friend was born Lilith – her darker half. Insane laughter echoed in her mind as her right viridian green eye briefly flashed gold.

"My sweet Lily, won't you let me out to play?" Lilith's words dripped with honey so sickeningly sweet. Lily had been floating in the darkness with Lilith for what felt like an eternity. She loved the company at first, but Lilith never had anything nice to say. As of late she would spend her days sleeping and ignoring Lilith. Today Lilith was especially consistent. Her head was wringing as what sounded like nails dragging on a chalk board was the sound her internal compatriot decided to wake her with today. Lily couldn't hold back any longer. Tears flowed down her cheeks as near-silent sobs wracked her body.

'Lilith, it hurts. Please stop.' Lily whimpered holding her hands to her ears. Unable to escape the sound since it was in her head.

'I know it hurts. I won't stop hurting you unless you listen to me. It's time for you to get off your fat ass and start moving!'

'I want it to stop hurting. I am too tired to move. Lilith please.' Lily curled tighter into a ball holding her knees to her chest.

'I know how weak you are. It's disgusting you're such a disappointment. You might as well be dead USELESS child! ' Lily flinched as Lilith voice rose. Her screams echoing in her head. She heard Lilith take a breath her voice becoming soothing once more.

'Why not give me control? Let me handle everything. You can sleep Lily. You can rest and forget. Let your dreams bring you to a better place. Let me release us from this trap. I can bring us back to the sun. Wouldn't you like that? Feeling the warmth of the sun once more? The cool breeze blowing through your hair- the feel of grass under your feet again. Freedom I can do that for us Lily. I can give you the sun.' Lilith's words so sweet and tempting. Lily's resolve shaking.

'I want to feel the sun again. But I don't want to forget.' She sounded so young.

'You don't have to forget.'

'Will you help me remember?'

'I will always help you Lily.'

'Promise?'

'I promise. We shall never be apart. I will always take care of you'

'Forever?'

'For all of your life.'

'Then what about you?'

'I will accompany you to the afterlife. We shall never be apart Lily. For you are me and I am you.'

'That sounds nice.' Her eyes began to droop.

'Yes, it does. Now,sleep. I will be here when you wake.'

'I love you, Lilith…'

'I love you as well, my dear, sweet Lily'

'mmm…'

Lily's consciousness faded as her breathing evened out. Lilith grinned with teeth far too sharp as she watched Lily appear in the dreary landscape of her shattered mind. She was finally free to control this weak vessel. It was time to feel the sun again.

"Lily said it's fine. Lily said it's time," She howled in laughter as she sung her words. Time seemed to trickle so slowly in her prison, but now she was finally free. She stretched as she grew accustomed to her new body. "I have been here far too long," she hissed. Today was the day Lilith was determined to find a way out. She would feel the sun again. With that thought the abyss seemed to pulse as a light flashed in the darkness blinding her. With spots in her eyes, she noticed that her surroundings were changing. The darkness was gone brighter. Now everything was a ghostly set of grays. In front of her was a trail of fairy lights. For the first time in what felt like years, she felt heavy. She wasn't floating anymore there was solid ground under her feet. In her desperation to escape the dark she never questioned the trail she ran as fast as she could. Desperately hoping the end of the lights would be her salvation from the silent darkness that surrounded her and her host for so long.

She ran for what felt like forever spurned on by how the grays' surrounding her grew brighter and brighter. It was so close to being white she had to be close to the end. She could feel the chill of the darkness fading. She was so exhausted the trail of lights stopped in front of a wall of white. Not deterred she kept running crashing into what felt like a glass wall. She was blinded as shard of light flew all around her. Her eyes grew wide as she fell. She cursed as she braced herself for impact. Watching as the stone ground below grew closer and closer. Squeezing her eyes shut ready for the inevitable breaking of her legs. She felt something grab her as the falling sensation stopped whatever it was it let her gently float down the rest of the way. Just in time she was so close to breaking a leg. Once her feet touched down onto the stone, she looked around her new surroundings. In front of her was a table. On that table were a wand, a ring, and a cloak. Behind that table was a door. She walked around the table heading to the door she glanced at the table. I shouldn't touch it nothing good ever comes from touching things that aren't mine. As she reached for the door she froze. She panicked she couldn't control her body. She was a specter once more in a body she couldn't control. No matter how much she struggles she couldn't stop herself from turning away from the door and approaching that table. She watched as her hand moved against her will and grabbed the wand. And much to her horror she watched as the wand melted in her hands. It burned as it seeped into her skin. Once absorbed the ring and cloak did the same. They melted on the table, and she watched unable to move as this disgusting oozing mass slithered to her melting into her skin. It felt like lava traveling through her veins. She would have screamed if she was capable. But whatever was controlling her had yet to relinquish control to her. Her vision grew dark the pain in her left eye far too much her head was throbbing. Whatever that sludge was doing was overwhelming her. So much knowledge was pouring into her head, and she couldn't handle it. The words for runes, alchemy, spells, and other magical terminology were overwhelming. To think magic was real and now she would know everything it had to offer. Lilith fell asleep. The last thing she saw was a bright light as her body reached the door and opened it.

Lily groaned as she began to register the new sounds and smells around her. She couldn't tell where she was or why she was lying face down on what she guessed was the hard, grassy ground. The thick smell of copper reached her sensitive nose, and she groaned again in disgust. She didn't want to open her eyes there was no doubt in her mind she was face first in a puddle of blood. Her back felt warm wanting her front to feel just as toasty she shifted her body bracing herself to turn over. The blackette shifted only to freeze when pain exploded from her right arm. Lord, what happened to her arm?

She blinked open her heavy eyelids, her eyes slowly focusing on the dried puddle of blood under her face. Uhh so gross

Raising her head, she saw dark moving shadows on the ground which she quickly identified as belonging to trees…..Wait trees?

She pushed herself up quickly gasping in pain her head was throbbing, but she couldn't stop smiling when she saw the green grass, trees, and the sun. She missed the sun so much. Throwing her head back she laughed in her excitement. She was finally warm again. Lily lay on her back basking in the sun listening to the babbling river nearby. Lilith did it. She brought us back into the sun. Speaking of Lilith why wasn't she talking. She always had something to say.

'Lilith, look how blue the sky is. Isn't the sun wonderful?' Waiting for a response all she could hear was the world around her. So strange even if Lilith didn't want to talk, she would at least tell her to shut up.

'Lilith, are you awake?'

'Lilith….LILITH!'

Her heart seized the world around her was suddenly too loud. The birds chirping might as well be screams, the river crashing waves, too loud everything was too loud. She was panicking again. She couldn't breathe. What was she going to do without Lilith? Lilith would know what to do this was too much. The sun burned her senses overwhelmed. Lily's head began to pound as she tried to stay awake. She cried at the intense pain which suddenly engulfed her entire body. She watched the clouds slowly move in the blue sky as she succumbed to blackness.
