Chapter 4 What's Under Angelica's Bed?

Summary: An epilogue to "Under's Chuckie Bed". What if Tommy and Chuckie tells Angelica that there's no monsters under beds after the sleepover? What if she gets called out if there were any monsters under her bed? The following night, Angelica is in for a scary surprise. Is the supposed monster under her own bed actually real or just her imagination?

The next morning after the sleepover, Tommy and Chuckie are seen in the backyard outside Chuckie's house, playing in the sandbox. Betty stops by to drop the twins off to play before she and Chas discuss how Chuckie is coping with his new bed, with Chas explaining the whole ordeal was settled as the boys slept peacefully the rest of the night. The moment the grown-ups were out of sight, the babies went into a conversation about last night.

Phil said So, how did it go?

Lil said Yeah, I'm guessing that monster didn't eat ya from the looks of it.

Tommy said That's because there was no monster.

The twins: Huh?

Chuckie said Turns out the "monster" under my bed wasn't really a monster after all. It was actually my dad's sweater. My dad came into my room last night and told me and Tommy that there are no monsters. Or elephants or trolls. So, I don't gots to be scared of anything after all. And I'm guessing all the times I keep hearing a monster talking to me must have been in my head since Tommy didn't hear anything.

Phil said But aren't you still scared of your new bed?

Chuckie shrugging saying Well, I guess there's still some getting used to it without any sides like my old crib, but I'll get there.

Angelica offscreen) Are you kidding me?

(The babies turn to see Angelica popping up from her hiding place near the tree, overhearing the conversation. She was frowning as she walks over to the sandbox.)

(Tommy glaring )

Tommy said I knew you were wrong the whole time, Angelica. There was never any monsters under Chuckie's bed. What I saw for myself was just his daddy's sweater. And we slept through the rest of the night without any more problems.

(Angelica struggling to get control back over her tall tale)

Angelica said Yeah, well… next time Chuckie won't be so lucky if a real monster eventually shows up.

(Phil pondering)

Phil Say, 'member you said about this Barnaby Jones kid?

(Angelica hesitating a bit)

Angelica said Yeah? So?

Phil said So what if he had been a real mean kid?

(Lil slowly getting where her brother was going with)

Lil said Yeah, what if the monster that ate him only lives under the beds of really mean kids?

(Angelica gaped at the twins in disbelief by their theory before she scowls)

Angelica said That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard!

(Tommy suspiciously)

Tommy said Are you even sure that there's even a kid named Barnaby Jones, Angelica? Did you actually met him before ore you just made him up just to scare Chuckie?

(Angelica hesitating)

Angelicin said Um, I… uh… heard it from some other kid down the street.

Lil said What was their name?

(Angelica getting annoyed )

Angelica said What does it matter? I'm a big kid and there no such things as monsters living under some kid's bed!

Chuckie said But Angelica, you said that there are monsters living under our beds yesterday. So why then tell us there aren't just now?

Angelica said Because…. Because… 'Cause I said so that's why!

(Frustrated with her fib to scare Chuckie is starting to unravel, Angelica stomps away in a huff.)

Angelica said Just forget it! You dumb babies will believe anything! Monsters living under people's bed. (Scoffs) As if there's any under mine.

Phil said Hey, Angelica, if there's a mean kid eating monster under your bed, you're sure hiding under your blankie's gonna help?

Lil said Yeah, maybe you can try scaring' the monster away with your bad singing.

(The babies promptly giggle at the joke as Angelica continues to walk away, rolling her eyes.)

Angelica said Dumb babies.

(The following night over at Angelica's house, Angelica is in her bedroom, clad in her pajamas with her doll, Cynthia, in hand, settling in for bed. Her father, Drew, tucks her in and affectionately kisses her goodnight on the head.)

Drew said Sweet dreams, princess.

Angelica yawning) Night, Daddy.

(As Drew leaves the room, he turns off the lights and closes the door. Angelica turns slightly in bed, mumbling as she gets to sleep)

Angelica said semi asleep Those dumb babies telling them that monsters actually live under mean kids' beds and eats them instead of babies. They'd believe about anything… monsters under my bed… pah! Everybody knows that there's no such thing as…

Monster said Hey, blondie!

(Startled awake, Angelica sits up in bed.)

Monster said Wakey-wakey.

Angelica said You can't be a monster hiding under my bed! I made that whole thing about you and little Barnaby Jones up to scare that Finster kid.

Monster said amused) Heh, yeah, well, ya been a real naughty girl lying to Li'l Red just 'cause he's thought his old's man sweater's me. Just get some facts straight; I don't eat babies. They're kinda on the puny side if you're know what I mean.

(Angelica nervously inches near the end of her bed, Cynthia in hand.)

Monster said Hey, I'm throwing a tea party down here. How 'bout you come on down and join in on the fun? I got lots of cake, ice cream and even cookies. All on the house.

(Angelica pulls away)

Angelica said This is dumb! There's no way there's actually a monster under my bed! Right, Cynthia? (Uncertainly) Right?

Monster said Hey, seeing is believing, toots.

(Having enough, Angelica climbs out of bed and gets down to her knees, reaching for the covers. She hesitates at first before she lipping he's her doll towards the bottom of the bed.)

Angelica said You go first, Cynthia. You take a look.

(She stuffs Cynthia under the covers so the doll could get "a look for herself".)

Angelica said Well? Is there something under there or not?

(She takes Cynthia out from under the bed. There was a pause as she looks at the doll as Cynthia, in a moment of silence, "told" her what she just "saw".)

Angelica said nervously) What so you mean don't look for myself?

(She reaches for the covers and lifts up, looking under the bed herself.)

Angelica said Don't tell me you actually believe that there's actually a monster under…

(The scene switches over to Angelica's point of view as we suddenly see a monster similar to the one Chuckie had imagined seeing under her bed, reaching towards her. We cut back to Angelica screaming in terror before she recoils from the bed and starts to out of her room, calling out for her parents.)

Angelica yelled Mommy! Daddy! There's a monster under my bed!

(The moment she had fled out of the room, we cut back to underneath her bed to see, in reality, the "monster" is actually her own sweater in an awkward position with one of the sleeves awkwardly sticking out in a reaching position. Cheery music plays as the story ends.)
