The Birth Of A Flower
I discovered the Haventale AU on Deviantart and thought it was super sweet and cute. But I was curious as to how Flowey and Asriel both existed together, and the wiki didn't say as it's a design based AU more than a plot based one(the anti-Underfell). So I came up with my own origin story for Flowey, just for fun. I hope you guys enjoy!

Asgore knocked on Gaster's door. "I am here, Gaster." he called out.
Gaster opened the door, his cheekbones flushed with magic and his eyes filled with a wild excitement. Alphys was with him, looking a bit nervous, but also excited, so much so she couldn't stop fidgeting.
"Thank you for coming so quickly." Gaster signed. "Alphys and I have incredible news."
Asgore smiled. "That is wonderful, Gaster. What is it?"
"As you know, Alphys and I have been working for the last few months, studying the soul samples young Chara let us take to figure out what exactly makes a monster soul different from a human soul. And Alphys here discovered exactly why." Gaster signed proudly before patting Alphys on the shoulder.
Alphys squeaked and turned bright red, as she always did whenever attention was on her. "I-I, um, I found a previously undiscovered soul trait last night. It-It's hard to notice because it's colorless, unlike the personality traits, but it permeates the human soul, while not existing or having too small of a quantity to detect in monster souls. After some study, we-we discovered what it is. It-It's literally the will to live and thrive. I-I named it Determination."
"That is incredible. You should be very proud, Alphys." Asgore told them proudly. "This may be the link we need to create a way to break the barrier."
"Actually, I think I may possibly know exactly what we can do." Gaster told him. "After what Chara told us that she discovered from the human library about the fusion of a human and monster soul being able to bypass the barrier, I came up with an idea. We can create a being that while it will not have the same massive power influx of a soul fusion, will still be able to pass the barrier."
"Can it be done safely, Gaster?" Asgore asked. "I do not want you testing an unknown trait on yourself." He frowned sternly. "I still remember you nearly killing yourself with that extractor of yours. If I had not been close enough to hear you scream..."
Gaster looked sheepish. "Don't worry, I did not test it on myself. Well, in a way I did, but only on a sample of dust I scraped from my arm. Which was a good thing because Determination seems to be caustic to monster bodies, as a drop of Determination turned the whole sample into a pile of sludge." All three of them shuddered at that.
"Gaster, if it's that dangerous, I don't want you and Alphys to..." Asgore started.
"But seeing that it won't work on a monster body, I came up with a different idea, one that should be completely safe. A monster body isn't strong enough to handle Determination, but a physical body would be." Gaster held up his hand when Asgore opened his mouth, and signed quickly. "Do not worry, your majesty, I'd NEVER test it on Chara. You know I love her like a niece. But... you remember how Arial and I used our soul droplets to grow both Sans and Papyrus in test tubes, as it wasn't safe for Arial to carry a pregnancy to term?"
Asgore nodded.
"Well, I believe we could do the same with droplets from your and the Queen's souls, but grow them in a strong physical body, one that would be able to handle Determination. One that when grown, could be able to help us research the barrier from the outside." Gaster suggested.
Asgore frowned as he thought this over. "Gaster... Alphys, I do not know if this is right. Creating a new monster, a child, just so they can help us break the barrier..."
Gaster fidgeted his fingers a bit. "Asgore... I have no intention of the child just being used. They, whoever they become, will always be raised with love, just like any biological children either of us have. And creating a child this way means they have the best chance at freedom. That all of our children, every monster down here, will have the best possible chance. Isn't that what we all want? Even my Sans, despite only being ten, wants to become a scientist someday and help to break the barrier. I hear so many wishes in the Echo Flowers to be able to see the stars. Now we have that chance. We have that hope. We owe it to everyone to at least try."
Asgore sighed softly, coming to feel the same way. All his subjects were looking to him, wanting to find a way to see the surface again, to feel the sun and see the stars. He too wanted this for his children, and he knew Toriel longed for another child. "...All right. I will talk to Toriel about it, see how she feels."
Gaster smiled. Alphys, while she still looked uncertain as always, smiled too. "That's all we ask for." Gaster signed.
...
Asgore did indeed talk to Toriel, and while she too felt uncertain about it at first, they decided to go through with it. Though Toriel insisted, and Asgore agreed, that the child would be allowed to choose their own path when they grew. It was also agreed that the child would not be told about their possible abilities until they were old enough to make a journey outside the Barrier safely. A week later, they called Gaster and told them they wanted to go through with it, and the family of four headed over to Gaster's lab, where Gaster and Alphys were waiting.
A large flower, one with large pink petals and a white center rested on the lab table, one of the many flowers Asgore had given Gaster to brighten up his lab. When the group looked at it curiously, Gaster spoke up. "We believe this would be the best physical body for our new monster to have. As it is not conscious in the way an animal would be, there would be no other soul or animal instincts to interfere with the development of the monster soul. Plus, it is fairly small and common on the surface so the child born from it will be able to slip past the notice of humans."
"Not to mention, it's so pretty and cute! The humans won't be scared of them even if they do see them!" Alphys added cheerfully.
Asriel's eyes shone. "I love the idea of having a flower sibling!" he cheered.
"I can't figure out if a flower with a face would be cute or creepy." Chara commented.
"Aww, Chara, c'mon, how could they be creepy?! Look at them!" Asriel pointed out.
"Well, what if they turn into an eldritch horror with my Determination in them?" Chara asked playfully. "I AM the demon that comes when you call its name after all."
"Chaara! Our sibling would never be creepy!" Asriel pouted.
Chara laughed. "All right, all right."
Toriel smiled at her children's banter, then looked worried. "Are you two sure this can be done safely without something happening to the child?" she asked Gaster and Alphys quietly.
Gaster nodded. "We've run lots of tests, your majesty. We're as sure as we can be at this point. Nothing is one hundred percent, but we believe the flower body can easily handle both the Determination and the embryo soul."
Toriel relaxed at this and Gaster and Alphys began the procedure, taking a fresh soul sample from Chara and soul samples from both Asgore and Toriel. Carefully, the two separated the traits, and Gaster combined Toriel and Asgore's soul droplets, starting the process of the embryonic soul being born, with careful additions of the other soul traits to stabilize it and help it grow quicker.
It took a few hours, during which Asgore paced, Toriel kept rereading the same sentence in her book and looking up to see how things were going, and Chara and Asriel both colored and continually asked how far along things were. But in what seemed was like both a lifetime and the blink of an eye, Gaster deemed the soul ready. Alphys injected the flower with Determination as Gaster added the smallest amount to the soul, constantly checking the stability, and then the tiny soul was injected through syringe into its flower body.
There was no reaction for a few minutes, and all feared the soul had been rejected, or the transfer had failed. And then the flower glowed for a second and everyone held their breaths. As the glow faded, big black eyes with tiny white pupils blinked open, as the baby flower monster gazed about the room opening its tiny mouth, complete with fangs just like Asriel's, and letting out a little yawn. It turned to look at the people watching it and made an inquisitive little sound.
"Aww! They're so cute!" Asriel squealed as he ran over, Chara and his parents right behind him.
"Those big eyes are a bit uncanny though." Chara commented, holding out her finger towards the flower.
The flower blinked at her. Tiny vines came out of their stem, one catching Chara's finger and wrapping around it. They let out a soft coo and everyone in the room smiled.
Asgore could see his daughter's heart melt. "Aww, I guess they are KINDA cute." Chara admitted, a smile forming.
"They really like you." Asgore told Chara with a smile as he and Toriel approached their new child.
Toriel happily picked up the tiny flower in her arms, causing them to let out another coo. "Hello, little one. Welcome to your new family. Now let us see, what shall we call you?"
Asgore's eyes lit up. "I have the perfect name," he announced, and everyone else gave each other a "Here we go again," look. "How about Flowey? Flowey the Flower?"
The others groaned at the horrible name, well, all but one. The little flower, hearing their new name, babbled and waved their vines with a tiny fanged grin.
Asgore grinned back. "Flowey it is, then!"
And with that, Flowey the flower started his new life as a proud member of the Dreemurr family.
