After work

Evelyn's P.O.V

The sound of the horn goes off, signaling everyone that it's time for a lunch break. I take a deep sigh as I finish welding a loss piece of metal to back to its place. As I put away all of the equipment; I say goodbye to all my friends as I've finished today's work. After I changed my clothes and grabbed my bag; I walk out and head to the subway. Once my train arrives I quickly get on and sit in the far back. As I watch the world rush past me, I couldn't help but think about my encounter with the turtles. They were not as I expected, especially the blue masked turtle. He actually wanted to deal with the situation peacefully. Sure they are the good guys and should always take down the bad guys no matter what, but I guess he saw that I was different. Ever since that day, I can't get him out of my head. As my stop finally came, I gather my things and exit my train. I walk up the stairs and head towards our house. As I round the corner that leads to my street, I notice a letter sticking out the door on the abandoned house at the corner. I grab it and notice the purple dragon on the back of the letter. Knowing all too well what this letter means, I open it and read it.

Dear, D. G.

Tonight we're going to rob a weapons warehouse out by pear 239. Meet at the usual hideout at 10:30 pm. Once we can make this score; we'll make big bucks on selling these weapons. If all goes well, I'll pay you to double.

Hun

"Looks like I'll be working late tonight," I said with a tired sigh. I crumble the sheet of paper as I walk towards the door to our house and enter. As I walk towards the kitchen; I grab the pack of matches in the cupboard near the fridge. I strike the match and set the letter on fire and let it burn in the old fireplace in the main room of our house. After I watch it burn to ash, I walk into the kitchen to check the time. It's 11:30 and the boys won't be back until 12:50. I walk to the fridge and pull out the milk, and then an idea came to mind, I pull all the ingredients and start making the double chocolate cake. After about 25 I pull the cake out and put the icing on it. I look at the clock and it's 12:05, I've got some time before I got to pick them up, so I wash up and change into the usual clothes I wear when I work the purple dragons. Then I pack my rope bag with my wig, beanie, and mask. Once that's all set I head out to the subway station to wait for my brothers. Then I remembered that I need someone to babysit my brothers so I need to figure out whom. I can't ask Mr. and Ms. Chi, they've done so much for us and I don't want to burden them more with my problem and the last thing I want to do is get these good people involved with the dragons. Then I thought of April, she's my only other option. I've made sure that only a few people know about us and much as I hate to use people, she did say that she owed us. Once I reached the station, I walked to the nearest payphone. I place the coins I needed and then began dialing the number. The phone rings for a few minutes she answers the phone.

"Hello," April said.

"Hey April; it's me, Eve." I said.

"Hey Eve; what's up?" she asks.

"Well; I have a favor to ask," I said sheepishly.

"What is it?" she asks.

"I have to help a friend move into his new apartment and it may take me almost all night. So I was wondering if you could watch Greg and Rai for me?" I ask.

"Oh sure; I don't mind at all." She said happily.

"Awesome; I'll bring the boys by your shop at 9:30. Thanks, A." I said relieved.

"No problem. See you guys later." She said and then she hangs up the phone.

I release a big sigh as I hang up the phone. Now that that's taken care of, I can at least focus on the dark deed ahead of me. After waiting for ten minutes, the boy's train finally pulls in and the door opens and a wave of people comes pouring out. I look among the sea of faces until I find two very dear and familiar faces. I wave to Greg and Rai and they wave back to me as they join me at my spot.

"Hey, guys how did it go with Mrs. Brenda?" I ask them as we exit the subway station.

"Well my math has improved but I'm still having some problems," Greg said.

"Okay let me look at it, maybe I can help," I said as we walk down the street towards our house. "What about you Rai?" I ask as I look at him.

"I'm still having a hard time reading." He said looking at me.

"Still buddy," I said as I look at him as we finally reached the front door. He nods his head as I unlock the door and all three of us walk inside. "Okay; bring me your books and I'll help you with your reading. That's always been my favorite subject, next to art and music." I said as I close the door behind me. My brothers walk into the kitchen and are surprised to see what I left in the fridge.

"Wow Eve, when did you?" Greg asks as he pulls out the cake and he and Rai stand around it.

"I made it before I came to pick you guys up. We can each have a slice after we eat lunch." I said as I walk to the fridge and pull out all I need to make grilled cheese sandwiches.

"Sweet!" Greg and Rai said happily. I start making three grilled cheese and a single slice of ham in between the cheese and bread. After about 5 minutes or so, I finish and I serve myself and my brother's. As we eat I spoke to them.

"Hey guys; I have to work late tonight. I have to help a friend from work move into a new house; unfortunately, he won't have a moving van until late tonight." I explain as I take a bite of my sandwich.

"So will we be staying at Mr. and Ms. Li's shop again?" Greg asks as he takes a bite of his sandwich.

"No; you guys are going to stay at April's place," I said.

"Really!" They said surprised.

"Yes." I said as I laugh at their reaction. "But; I know she has cool stuff in her shop that doesn't mean that you can get all touchy. If you break one thing in her shop I'll put you guys through double backflips and fire squats." I threaten them and they know I mean it.

"Yes, ma'am." They said worriedly.

"Good; now let's have some cake," I said with a smile as I grab a knife and cut three slices of cake. I hand out the slices and we enjoy the double chocolate cake.

Time skip

I watch as my brothers happily walk towards April's shop and I couldn't help but smile. It's moments like this that I truly cherish and it's because of them that is why I do what I do and why I taint my hands. As we draw closer to April's shop; Ria picks up speed and runs through the doors, followed by Greg and then me.

"April; we're here." I cried as I walk towards the spiral staircase.

"Hey guys; I'm coming down." She said from her home upstairs. My attention is taken away from the stairs and I turn to look at my brothers looking at all the cool antiques. As I look around I spotted a collection of masks. They are from around the world and from different cultures.

"Hey, guys check out these masks," I said as I call my brothers over. They stand beside me as we look at all of the masks.

"Cool' check out this cool dragon mask," Rai said as he picks up a really cool-looking blue dragon. As I look at I couldn't help but think of our dad.

"Awesome. Check out this cool fox mask." I said as I place it over my face and I look at Rai. He laughs at my playfulness.

"Geg; what do you-" I said but stop midway as a scary white face with gold horns causes me to scream.

"Haha; got you, sis," Greg said as he takes off the Japanese demon mask, revealing a mischievous smile on his face.

"Greg; give me a heart attack why don't you," I said as I feel my face burn red in anger. Rai laughs along with Greg. I couldn't help but laugh along with them.

"I see you guys like those masks," April said as she finally comes down the stairs. We look at her as we put the masks down. "Good to see you guys again guys." She said as she walks towards us.

"April!" Ria and Greg said happily as they run towards her and give her a hug.

"Hey, April," I said as I join the small group.

"Hey. So are you boys ready for a fun night at my place?" April said getting the boys pumped.

"Yeah!" They said as they run back to looking around the shop. I couldn't help but laugh at their enthusiasm.

"Here some money for pizza and whatever sweets my brothers might want," I said as I hand her some cash.

"Okay thank you, Eve," April said as she takes the money and puts it in her pocket.

"Also; I made a cake earlier today I brought you one as a thank you gift," I said as I hand her a paper plate wrapped in foil. "Here," I said as I hand it to her.

"Oh; thank you, Eve," April said as she lifts up the foil and looks at the cake.

"No prob. I warned the boy about being in your shop. If they break anything; you'd tell me and they'll get what they deserve." I explain.

"Oh, now Eve; I sure your brother's will behave. They know better than to-" April said but stopped midway as we hear the boys cry out. We look and see them trying to steady a suit of armor. Once they fixed it they turn to look at us. I look sternly at them, reminding them what I told them.

"He did it!" They said as they pointed at each other. Then they run up the stairs up into her house.

"Just send me the bill," I said with a chuckle.

"Alright," April said as she laughs along with me.

"I'll be heading. I should be back in 2 or 3 hours, depending on how things go. See yah." I said as I leave the shop.

"See yah, Eve," April said as she waves back to me. After walking a few alleyways from April's shop; I duck into it and then change into my "work clothes". Once I put my mask on and readjust my wig and beanie; I climb the nearest fire escape ladder and run across the rooftops to head to one of the dragon's hideouts.
