The Flashback

I whipped my head around, looking for an out, my eyes landed on the doorway of an abandoned building and I slipped inside, tucking myself into a corner as I checked my gun. "Shit! Three in the mag and one in the chamber, and you got separated from your partner. Fine mess you've gotten yourself into this time." I said to myself as I caught my breath and let my head fall against the wall behind me. I sighed and slid mu gun into the holster on my hip before pulling the hunting knife from the strap on my shoulder. Cautiously I stepped to the door and peeked out.

The infected were milling about aimlessly, there weren't too many of them about ten of them, if I was careful I could slip up behind them and dispose of them with the knife and be on my way. I had killed four of them when I heard a loud roaring coming from behind me. Jerking my head around I saw the unmistakable form of the giant BOW that I'd lost, charging at me. "Fuck…" I muttered and dove out of the way and took off running, hoping to loose it once again. However, Neo-Umbrella had set up an ambush and the BOW had chased me right into it. I slid to a stop and stared at the more than fifty guns that were pointed at me. I glanced behind me to see the BOW blocking my exit, I slowly let out the breath that I'd been holding and gently lay my weapons on the ground.

Raising my hands to place them behind my head I discreetly pushed the comms button and HQ answered. I rolled my eyes as the newest, and most annoying receptionist answered and asked what I needed help with. I gave a slight smile at the excitement in her voice, after all it wasn't everyday that one of the top agents in the world called asking for assistance and you answered. I gave a wicked glare at the men that were slowly approaching. They'd learned that when I was cornered there was no telling what I would do, and boy did I have a ringer this time.

"There's a file on your computer titled 'Extreme Circumstances Only.' do you see it?"

"Um…yes I see it."

"Open it."

"Okay it's open."

"You should see a virtual version of a large red button."

"I do."

"Push it."

"What does it do?"

"That's not your place to know, now push it and disconnect!" I hissed

"Right of course so sorry. Okay I pushed it." The line disconnected and I returned my attention to the men.

"Boys. We all know that this is not going to end the way you want it to. If I were you I'd turn back now." I said stalling for time, less than a minute later I saw the tail of smoke in the sky that told me I was out of time, the missile had arrived. The Neo-Umbrella soldiers and the BOW looked up at the sound and I used that time to duck into the nearby alley and jump into a dumpster before they noticed and pressed the comms button once more. "This is Winter, signing off for the last time." I disconnected and whispered. "Forgive me…" Then the missile blew and everything went black.
