May and Carmine go to the bar for a drink.

"I'm surprised you're here," he says, as though this is something new. He's drinking whiskey over ice, which makes him look ten years older than usual. "After last night."

"Me too." She slides onto one of the stools at the end of the bar. "What did you do?" she asks, gesturing at his face. His eyes are swollen, his lips bruised. "Slipped and fell on my dildo bro," he says spitting out another tooth.

Carmine snorts but doesn't laugh. "I had some fun," he admits.

"You think that's an excuse?" May pulls her hair back into a ponytail. It's been two days since she left her apartment and it feels good not being in the same place as her mother. Her father won't be home until Sunday so there's no reason to stick around. "Jesus Christ, Carmine."

He looks away from her. "It wasn't what I wanted, okay? "What you didn't want me to send you those photos with the dick in my ass? You kept asking for them." Carmine says finishing his drink.

"I thought you were joking. At least I was hoping it was a joke." May shakes her head. "I don't understand how you can even talk about this shit when you know it hurts me." "Well, at least I'm not sitting around eating Brittany's ass all day." Carmine sighs.

"No!" May yells, grabbing his arm. "The only person who sits around eating my ass is you! Why do you have to be such a fucking asshole?"

"Because you drive me crazy!" May notices everyone in the room is looking at her. They've heard everything they're saying. "Fuck you," she spits in his face. She pushes him back onto the bar stool and goes to leave.

"Where the fuck are you going?" May turns around and pulls out the box cutter she cares around for self-defense. Carmine is trying to stand up but there's still a little bit of whiskey in his eyes. He's swaying. "You can't just walk out like this!" Carmine slurred. May screams and charges Carmine.

He grabs her by the hair and drags her to the ground. The rest of the people in the bar jump.

"Listen bitch, I should kill your ass right now!" Carmine's voice is loud in the silence. May slams the knife into his throat.

"No!" someone screams.

Carmine gasps for air and throws her off. He falls to his knees coughing blood.

"Bitch!" he snarls, pulling out his own blade. May runs at full speed toward the door slipping and smashing her head into the bars front door. She has no idea where she's running or why she's doing it but she knows she'll never stop.

She gets to the sidewalk and sees her car. She grabs her keys and sprints towards the driver side door. Carmine rips open the door and uses the last of his strength to throw his knife into her back.

"No!" May collapses against the wheel. Blood pools out of her wounds. She tries to turn the key in the ignition but her hands are shaking too much.

"Stop!" Carmine snarls grabbing her by the hair again. May screams for help. She feels his hand around her neck. She watches as he picks up his knife and cuts her throat.

May wakes up in the hospital. Her mother is holding her hand.

"Hey, baby," she whispers. "Where's Carmine?" May says struggling to sit up.

"He took your phone," her mother says.

"Why would he do this?" May asks looking around the room. There's a lot of machines hooked up to her body. May runs her hand a crossed her neck. "How am I alive?"

Her mother walks over to her and takes her other hand.

"He cut you pretty deep but they got to you in time."

"How bad is it?" May asks.

"They told me you lost a lot of blood."

"Did they say if I'm going to die?" May asks.

"They don't know. You're lucky to be awake." "Does Brittany know?" May says with a look of concern.

"Yes. She's with the police now. We're going to get through this together."

"Why is she here?"

"She was in the neighborhood and came to see you."

"Can I go see her?" Mom looks at May confused. "May your on life support what ear you talking about."

"You mean Brittany?"

"Of course I mean Brittany." May sighs. "I want to see her."

"Okay."

A nurse comes into the room with a cup of water. It's Maggie Carmine's ex-girlfriend.

"Hello?" May calls.

Maggie looks scared and confused. "Is that… May?" She looks around the room, as though expecting to find another patient.

"Yes." May smiles. "It's ah… good to see you? I think." Maggie pauses. "Carmine did this didn't he?" May nods sadly.

"He tried to kill me." May takes a sip of the water. "That's why I'm here."

"Oh my god. I can't believe he did that." There's a commotion in the hallway just before Brittany runs into the room practically out of breath. "May holy shit baby, I'm here for you! I'm so glad you are alive!" She rushes over to May and hugs her tightly.

"I love you," May whispers into her neck.

Brittany squeezes her tight. "Let me take a look at you." Brittany is shocked to see the state she's in. "Oh my god your throat!" She yells tears streaming down Brittany's tan cheeks.

May holds her. "He cut it."

"He did this to you?" May nods.

"He did it because of me."

"I'm sorry May. I hate him."

"It's really come to this then." Maggie sighs with deep pain. "Carmine hasn't been the same since Team Magma fell he kept that damn Blue Orb. I think it's corrupted him." Maggie says sternly.

"What do we do?" May asks looking at her mother.

"We need to find the Red Orb. If he has it we can destroy him for good."

"But how?" May asks.

"We summon Kyogre god of the sea," Brittany says.

May is sitting in a wheelchair outside the hospital. She's wearing a blue dress with her arms covered in bandages. She glances out the window at the sky. It's a beautiful day and the sun shines brightly. It's been a week in and out of intensive care but she's finally out of bed.

"How are you feeling?" May asks her mother.

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me." May nods and looks back out the window.

"So what happened to Carmine?" "That's what I've called Brittany and Maggie here for." Her mom says as the two enter the room.

"He used to be a nice boy," May says.

"I'm sure he was," Brittany says as she sits down next to May. Maggie places her hand on May's shoulder. " I loved him once too. But we have to do this." Maggie pauses to consider her own words. "May, Carmine must die."

"He's not worth it," May says softly.

"He's evil May. And he'll keep hurting people unless we stop him."

"He's already hurt me and killed my best friend," Brittany says holding back tears thinking of her dear friend Matt. "I'm not letting anyone else suffer under his sick games."

"If we can't destroy him," Maggie says "then he will continue to wreak havoc on our world. We must end him once and for all." "Where do we start?" May asks gently touching the scar on her own neck.

"We need to find the Red Orb," Maggie replies. "Then we summon Kyogre god of the sea. He'll hear us and come here to destroy Carmine."

"How do we find the Red Orb?" Brittany asks. "It was lost at the temple of the sea last time we summoned it." Brittany recalls.

"There is one clue left behind after the battle," Maggie says. "We need to go to the beach."

"What do we need there?" May asks.

"A shell." Maggie smiles.

The trio of women stands at the sight of the climactic sea temple conflict. The waves lap up against May's feet even In Her wheelchair. The sun is shining bright and the sand is warm.

"This is the place," May says softly.

"It's beautiful isn't it?" Brittany asks looking around.

"Despite all of the devastation this place is healing," Maggie says gesturing to Wingull sitting atop the shattered pillars that once stood around the temple.

May leans her head against her chair. "What do we have to do?"

"Take a shell," Maggie says. "We have to show Kyogre we can defeat Carmine and bring peace back to this world."

May pauses. "You keep saying to the world. As far as I know, he's only attacked me. What else has he been doing?"

"He destroyed the city of Vermillion while you were away," Maggie answers.

"In Kanto?! That's terrible." May says firmly.

Brittany sighs. "Son of a bitch used Primal Groudon to level everything in sight. They never stood a chance."

May stops breathing. "What?" She says without breathing.

"It was only a month ago. I tried to stop him but he escaped with the Red Orb. He changed the entire planet to suit his needs.

"What needs he's just a man? What does he stand to gain?" May asks dumbstruck.

"He's using it for power," Maggie says. "That's what he wants. Power over the world."

"Power over the world?" May repeats. "How is that possible? How could he use the Red Orb like that?"

"Primal Groudon May weren't you listening?" Brittany says. "I love you babe but maybe we should have left you at the hospital." Brittany kisses May on the forehead.

"I'm sorry babe I'm not listening. Can you repeat that please?"

"Groudon is a god," Maggie shouts. "As powerful as he is he can't control the Red Orb alone so it needs Carmine. For all, we know Carmine might be more Groudon than Carmine." Maggie looks down at May grimly.

"I can't believe this is happening," May says staring at the ocean.

"I guess this is goodbye then, Come on Maggie," Brittany says sadly as the two walk off toward the temple entrance.

"Wait I'm not done yet!" May says getting out of her chair. She immediately tumbles to the ground her body still weak from the trauma.

"It's okay May. You're safe now." Maggie rubs May's arm reassuringly.

"No I'm not. This is all Carmine's fault." May stands up and weakly walks to the edge of the cliff that leads down to the beach. "I'll kill him myself." She says defiantly.

"May," Maggie says hesitantly. "Maybe it's better if you don't. We can't let you get in more danger."

"Don't tell me what to do!" May yells angrily.

"That's my girl!" Brittany laughs. "Don't take no shit from some ex Magma Bitch. No offense Maggs." Maggie glares at Brittany with mild annoyance.

May turns to Brittany. "I've been so stupid. I thought I knew who he was but I was wrong. He's not an evil man he's a monster."

"Carmine is a monster," Brittany says looking at May. "And you know what we do to monsters?" Brittany smiles.

"Yes," May says quietly. "We kill them."

"That's it?" Maggie says exasperated. "You're letting her come with?!"

"Yup," Brittany replied handing May her old P-99. May turns to the temple of the sea as the orange sun sets behind it. "To the temple then."

The trio enters the ruins of the once great Temple of The Sea. Maggie and Brittany point out the various damage that was caused during the last attempt to summon Kyogre.

"He almost destroyed the whole damned place," Maggie explains. "We need to find where Archie hid the Red Orb." "Poor old pirate, greed and hubris did him in like most of my other teammates." Brittany's remorse for her fallen comrades is almost tangible.

"Here it is," Maggie says pointing at a large pile of rubble.

The three women begin digging through the rubble with their bare hands. After a few minutes, they reveal a small red orb. " Well, Maggie? Now what?" Brittany asks. "We have to bring it to leader Maxie. He'll know what to do." Suddenly something in the temple shifts. A crack appears in the stone wall and a giant clawed hand reaches out from the darkness.

"Oh shit!" May yells.

A Shadow Mega Sceptile burst through the wall followed by none other than Carmine.

"What the hell?" Maggie exclaims.

"Damnit, Carmine!" Brittany says as she pulls her pokéball.

"Get them," Carmine commands as the possessed Sceptile lashes out at the women. They quickly retreat and prepare for battle.

"Now!" Maggie shouts throwing her pokéball at the creature.

"Camerupt!" The hulking camel pokemon emerges with its signature eruption attack.

Carmine turns toward the new threat. "Go!"

The dark Pokémon charges at Camerupt firing a beam of energy from his mouth. Camerupt dodges the blast by leaping over it. The blast singes into the wall in front of them leading out onto the beach.

The beast roars as it takes cover behind a pillar. "Blazekin!" May shouts sending out her own mega evolution.

Carmine fires another beam of energy at Camerupt. The camel pokemon leaps out of the way again avoiding being caught in the blast. "Looks like it's time for us to mega too!" Maggie shouts as she clicks on her belt buckle activating the mega evolution.

The group of trainers charge forward and face off against Carmine. " pathetic." Carmine scoffed. "Sceptile Hyper beam Attack!" Carmine calls out.

"Ace!" Camerupt cries as it unleashes a stream of fireballs. Carmine jumps back dodging the flames.

"Blaze kick Blazekin!" May yells as the smoke clears revealing a furious Camerupt with a flame aura around itself.

"May what are you doing!" Maggie shouts "we've got to stop Carmine!" May screams

Carmine smirks as he readied himself for the attack. "I wouldn't do that if I were you," Carmine says raising his hand.

May launches herself at Carmine grabbing him by the wrist and trying to wrestle control of the Red Orb.

"May!" Brittany yells as she swings at Carmine with her knife from his flank.

Carmine grins as he rips free from May's grip. "Impressive little girl, but not strong enough." Carmine knees May's stomach before turning to Brittany catching her hand only an inch away from his neck. Carmine grabs Brittany by the hair pulling her close to him. "I'll make you understand. I'll show you pain that's worse than death."

"May!" Maggie yells.

Carmine chuckles as he spins Brittany around and slams her into the beach knocking the wind out of Brittany. "It's your turn now," Carmine says as he holds Brittany's head down and with his thumb, he presses the Red Orb against her throat.

Camerupt flinches as he sees the red orb pressed to Brittany's neck. "Stop!" May shouts as she cocks Brittany's handgun and points it at Carmine. "Let her go!" May says trying to steady herself on trembling legs.

Carmine laughs cruelly. "Your bluffing little girl. You're just like your father. So stubborn and pig-headed. Just like him, you'll pay."

"You bastard," May says shaking with anger. " what have you done to my father!"

"Let's just say the lab is going to need a new coat of paint. I heard lemon juice is perfect for removing brain matter from the floorboards." Carmine laughs.

May backs up slowly. "You're a monster! I will destroy you. I won't let you hurt anyone else ever again!" May begins to fire wildly.

Carmine moves at superhuman speed to close the gap between him and May before landing a full-force blow to her abdomen. May falls flat on her back gasping for air.

"Not bad kid. Not bad at all." Carmine says smiling.

Camerupt charges at Carmine but is knocked aside by a boulder that Carmine throws at him.

"Do you not see the power Primal Groudon has bestowed to me? Even the Pokémon fail to stand against me."

"I've had enough of you!" Maggie screams bloody murder as she unholsters her own side arm and charges Carmine.

"Oh dear," Carmine says. "I didn't realize there would be more of you."

Maggie's shot connects with Carmine's shoulder shattering the bone and causing Carmine to stumble. "Sceptile now!" Carmine shouts as the creature springs to life faster than the eye can see. Before Maggie can react Sceptile had cut her in half. Maggie stands still a moment as her weapon falls to the sand. "How… could.. Carmine.. why.." Maggie says with her dying breath.

Carmine turns to May. "You have been a thorn in my side for far too long Maggie." Carmine smiles as he prepares his next attack.

Maggie's entrails spill onto the beach as the two halves of her body fall to the ground. Her blood absorbing into the white sand.

"Carmine!" May says with rage in her voice. The waves begin to rage against the shore.

"It's time to end this," Carmine says walking toward May. "It's time to finish you off. You've caused me nothing but trouble." Carmine says as he raises his hands to strike May. May screams as the ocean pulls itself around May and a Red aura bursts from her chest.

"NO! May no!" Brittany shouts.

"It's time to pay for your crimes. It's time to suffer for what you've done." May screams as she rises from the water her hair a brilliant Ruby red. As she raises a hand to bring the oceans might too bear.

"She's awakened! She's awakening!" Carmine shouts as May's eyes glow a crimson red.

"No!" Brittany shouts as she runs toward May.

"May snap out of it! Kyogre! It'll possess you too just as Primal Groudon did to Carmine! you can't!" Brittany shouts.

May turns to her friend and with one swift motion wraps her arms around Brittany tightly.

"NO MAY! COME BACK TO US!" Brittany screams.

May screams blasting Carmine and his Pokémon to the cliff walls. Brittany clutches at May. "We'll find another way!" She pleads.

"No, we can't. I'm sorry." May says coldly her voice now sounding like one of many.

Brittany feels May's heart slowing down. "May, please don't do this! Please!" Brittany begs. She begins to charge her next attack as Carmine struggles to stand. "Carmine for your sins against Hoenn and her people I cast you from this world!" She cries. With that May releases her torrent of water at Carmine.

Carmine manages to break free as she unleashes a tidal wave that tears apart the beach. Carmine makes his to the upper cliff narrowly avoiding her attacks. "Sceptile return!" He shouts retrieving his Pokémon.

Carmine looks around in panic realizing his escape route is gone. "This is the end for you." Carmine laughs as he pulls out a grenade and tosses it at May.

May doesn't even have time to dodge she quickly shields Brittany as the explosion sends the two women flying through the air and crashing into the temple.

Carmine watches as the pair hit the temple floor. "I really should have killed you when I had the chance," Carmine says before the Blue Orb within him erupts. The gem burns bright as Carmine teleports away to an unknown location.

The temple fills with smoke as the two women struggle to their feet. "I'm sorry," May says holding Brittany tight.

"I'm so sorry Brittany. I'm so very sorry." May says looking into Brittany's eyes.

"Hey, Hey, Hey! May it's not your fault! You did everything you could." Brittany says as she wipes the tears from her eyes.

"Brittany… Maggie, she's.. dead…" May begins to sob. Brittany holds her for a moment as the two of them break down.

Maggie's body lays sprawled across the beach as the tide recedes back into the sea. Her lifeless eyes stare up at the distant sun as the wingull fly overhead looking for their roost.

Maxie sits in his office chair staring at the wall above his desk. His eyes are moist from loss and grief. The image of Maggie lying in their final moments is still fresh in his mind. When May had called Maxie's office to tell him of the battle assembled a team and helicopter to take him to the sight immediately. The Pokémon Rangers were still recovering Maggie's remains when they arrived. The sight was simply too much to bear. "My Admin… my friend. Dead. Because of that. Boy."

" I should have been informed I could have…"

"It's my fault … " Brittany said tears welling up.

"No, I should have acted sooner! May shouted pounding her fist against her leg. Maxie stammers as he tries to collect himself. May and Brittany sit across from him still battered from the fight. Taking a look at the state the two of them were in Maxie walks over and places his hand on the young women's shoulders. "There isn't anything you could have done. You did your best. There wasn't much else we could have done. We will have time to mourn. But now we must find this filth and put an end to him." Maxie's eyes set ablaze with fury.

"You don't get it!" May says glaring at Maxie. "He destroyed our home! He killed my father! And now he's going to kill us all and we can't stop him! He has both orbs!" May cries.

"May you're wrong," Maxie says calmly. "We will stop him. Together."

"But how? He's a god! A demigod!" Brittany asks still nursing the burn on her neck.

"If he has both then we have but one option. We must find the Dragonoids."

"I'm sorry what?" May asked thinking that must have been an awful joke.

"The Dragonoid is ancient people who lived in the Hoenn region during the time of the great calamity. Now they are few. But they may hold the key to defeating this god once and for all." Maxie exposits.

"So we have to find these ancient people? They must be crazy old." May says as she fidgets with her hair.

"No simpleton, their ancestors live in the hills near lavaridge. We will travel there first."
