It was a calm, peaceful day in Mayberry, North Carolina. Otis Campbell was drunk and in jail as he usually is, Floyd was cutting hair at his barber shop as always, and Gomer Pyle was currently serving in the marines under Sergeant Vincent Carter. Andy Taylor and Barney Fife were, as they have been for many years, serving as Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff.

Currently, at the moment, Andy Taylor was working on paperwork that needed to be filled out. His deputy would soon come inside the courthouse, which was also the Sheriff's office, where the two worked, and the jailhouse, which was right across from their office. "Hello Andy." Barney would say to him. Andy would look up at Barney, and then respond to him.

"Hello Barn." He replied back, returning the greeting. "Do you want some coffee, Andy?" Barney would ask him. Andy shook his head. "No thanks, Barn. I had some this morning." He'd simply tell him. "When do you think we'll get another call?" Barney would ask Andy, who'd reply with a slight smile. "Well, let's see here...the last one was a few weeks ago."

"I don't know, to be truthfully honest, Barn. For this town's sake and everybody's sake, it needs to not happen for as long as it can." Andy would say. And then, the phone would ring. "Hello. Sheriff Andy Taylor, Mayberry's Sheriff's office." Andy would say on the phone. A voice would speak on the other end. "Is Deputy Barney Fife there? I'd like to talk to him." This surprised Andy. "Yes, Deputy Fife is here."

Andy would then hand the phone to Barney. "It's for you, Barn." Andy would say to him. "Hello?" Barn would say. "Hello Barney. Remember me, bestie?" Barney suddenly lit up and did a full fledged salute. "GENERAL! It's good to hear from you, sir!" Barney was smiling. "Yeah, I'm coming down to North Carolina, so I figured I'd visit you in Mayberry." The General replied to him on the phone. "Anyways, Barney. I've gotta go now. My flight has just been called. See you there!"

Barney hung up, smiling. "Who was that, Barn?" Andy would ask him. "That was General Robert Edward Hogan, an absolutely great friend of mine. He's coming to Mayberry very soon!" Barney Fife would tell Sheriff Taylor. "Wow. A General. What branch is he from?" Andy would ask. "The U.S. Army." Barney would reply back to the Sheriff.

"Quite interesting. I must say. How did you meet him?" Andy would ask. "That is a story for when he gets here, Andy. It's better to hear him tell it, anyway. The Man known as Papa Bear." Andy was somewhat confused. "Papa Bear was his code name, as he was an underground agent. I was part of that, too, you know." A call would come in for the Sheriff's office on the phone, after Barney told Andy. Andy would answer it. "Sheriff's Office." Andy would hear from the caller on the phone what was going on. "A shooting? We'll be right there. Let's go, Barney. Our first call in weeks." Andy would say to him, hanging the phone up.
