When all else fails.

This is just a one shot. Sam/Sam Fluff. I am setting it during Season 10 Episode 2 Morpheus Also happy belated 25th anniversary SG-1!

Samantha Carter thought for sure, that she had just been put in a coffin. Why? Why were they burying he alive? Why couldn't they see she was alive? Then Sam remembered there was bug feasting on here brain, and maybe just maybe this was all an illusion. Then, the her world went black.

Sam had her eyes closed she had tried hard to open them but she couldn't she moved around to try to figure out if she was still in a coffin. She realized that she was definitely in a bed and she noticed that there was warmth on her hand. Someone was holding her hand. She tried again to open her eyes and failed she tried to speak but she couldn't open her mouth.

"She's waking up." Sam hears.

She can't quite place the voice but it's familiar, then suddenly the warmth is gone and she tries to pull her hand to the blanket she now realizes is over her body. Her hand can't quite make it and she hears a light moan, and realizes she made the noise.

"Sam?" the voice asks.

Sam forces her eyes open this time, and all she can see is a bright light. It takes her a second to focus but a nurse and is at her bed, and then there he is, when all else fails. Jack was standing at her bedside. Sam knew it had been bad if Jack O'Neill showed up. Since had left the mountain she had seen the man a handful of times, and this was the 2nd near death encounter where he had been holding her hand.

"Hey, General." Sam squeaks out.

"Get her some water will ya? Jack asks the nurse, who shakes her head and quickly returns with water.

"You gave us a scare." Jack claims.

"The others?" Sam asks.

"Everyone is alright, you're the last to come around."

Sam nods her head.

"I'm sorry General but the doctor is coming to preform some tests." The nurse says.

Jack exits and Sam wonders if he will stick around to have a visit or, like last time leave the moment he realizes they would live to see another day.

Sam wasn't mad at Jack O'Neill for leaving, taking the job in Washington, At the time it was best for everyone. She had gone off to the Lake, Teal'c was planet hopping trying to the free Jaffa established. Daniel was, well Daniel. With 100s of back logged papers and documents. He loved going through the gate but he also loved the chance digging into the numerous artifacts they've collected.

But, now somehow she roped herself in with Cam Mitchell because the program needed her. She wanted to do it or she wouldn't have came back. She was slightly hoping though that someway somehow she'd see more of Jack O'Neill. When she was at the lake, she wasn't under his chain of command but now they were back to square one. It was her fault she knew. She wondered if Jack saw this as her way of saying "I don't want us." Sam wants there to be an us one day. She wished that the damn Ori would go away. She wished she didn't care so much about her planet, her galaxy. She wished she wasn't the one to follow the rules. Then, Sam Carter wouldn't be the woman who fell in love with Jack O'Neill and she was pretty sure he wouldn't love her back.

She sighed in frustration as the doctors and nurses ran her vitals and she wondered if she would see General Jack O'Neill or if he was already on his way back to Petterson.

Sam quickly fell back asleep dreaming of a time when she could let go, she had a dream of Jack's cabin. It was just the two of them, and they just having fun. She wanted that more than anything.

When Sam woke again she was surprised to see Jack O'Neill at her bedside once more.

"Whats wrong?" Sam asks before Jack even realized she was awake.

"I can't just be here?" Jack asks.

Sam blushes.

"No, it's just…" Sam cut herself off wanting to say she wasn't expecting him to be there.

Jack knows, what Sam so desperately wants to say to him, because he has thought the same things.

Jack felt like he left his team. He had a lot of teams over the years but when, you go off world with someone it just sits differently. Jack had thought by giving Sam Groom Lake, and Teal'c running off to free his people and Daniel doing his work that SG-1 didn't really need to exist as it once did. He now realized that SG-1 was needed more than ever his team was needed. He wasn't needed no he had felt the wear in his knees, the aches in his joints. He was a liability out in the field. He wished he was young again like Cameron Mitchell.

Jack wasn't surprised when he found out that Sam had rejoined the SGC, it was home. It was home for him as well but his higher calling led him out to Washington. General Laundry was one hell of a General and Jack respected him. He wished he could stay at the SGC longer than he did but office politics were bad, and somehow being in Washington made things easier. Easier to advocate for, when no one else had been in Washington had been in the SGC for more than 24 hours.

He looks at Sam, her questioning eyes looking back into his, and he wasn't sure what his body language was saying, but he hoped it conveyed warmth and kindness at the very least. He wanted more than anything for Sam Carter to know, that he loved her, but hell he could barely mentally think it, let alone convey it. So he looked down at the floor and proceeded to talk.

"I'm not here on official duty, I'm gonna stick around for a while Dr. Lam took you and the rest of SG-1 off duty for 3 weeks. I know you, Carter and you will just mess around with what ever you have at home. Daniel too, so I am here for you guys for as long as possible, before I get called back to Washington for a meeting." Jack claims.

Sam smiles and realizes that this whole time Jack had been holding her hand. She squeezes his hand and he returns it smiling, hoping in the short time they have they can read each others minds, because once again, one day is all the have to look forward to, when all else fails.
