"I swear to you Sero, every single fucking one." Kiri was shoveling eggs into his mouth. He sat across from Sero watching as he carefully removed the onions from his eggs. "Why don't you order it without onions?"
"I fucking did, but I guess Koji's getting his kicks putting them in my eggs." Sero looked up and glared at the line cook in the window, who was yelling an order behind him.
"Oi, what the fuck? How long are you going to take to eat?" Katsuki pushed Kiri over and sat down.
"Sorry boss, finishing up now." Kiri continued to shovel his breakfast into his mouth.
Katsuki waved down Tsuyu for a cup of coffee.
"Are you finishing up the job on that home off the main drag today?" The blonde just nodded and drank his coffee. "You guys need something else?"
Kiri shook his head, "We're good, thanks." Looking at Sero, he continued, "as I said, all of them." Kiri looked at Bakugou as well, nodding, his brows raised knowingly.
"What is that supposed to mean Shitty Hair?" Katsuki growled.
"The kid that moved in." Kiri noticed a dark look crossed the blonde's face, "yeah sorry about that, I know you wanted that place."
"Shut the fuck up." Katsuki drank his coffee, Deku had nine more days. He had an ace up his sleeve if he decided not to sell.
"We all went over and put his stuff away."
"Did he want you too?" Katsuki glanced at him.
"I don't know, Ochako told us to show up."
"Did you meet him?"
"No, he walked by looking pretty confused, he's a good-looking guy," he jabbed the blonde, "he might steal some of your fan base Katsuki."
"He can have them, fucking extras."
"I was in the living room, he doesn't have much and I came across a box of books, some Kuku author." Leaning in further, he whispered, "man looking at the titles, I think they were steamy romances."
Katsuki raised his brows and laughed, "the kid seriously had a box of romance novels?"
"Dude a ton, same author, lined his whole book shelf."
"Everyone has their kinks Kiri," Sero shrugged, "I'm guessing he wasn't expecting a bunch of strangers showing up digging through his shit."
"True, I wonder if the books are good, maybe I should read one?"
"Why the fuck would you do that?" Bakugou shook his head, everyone in this town was so goddamn nosy.
"Well, he owned a ton of them, they must be good." Kiri pulled up his phone and began typing, "Oh shit!" He covered his mouth with his hand. "Never mind Katsuki, you don't have to worry about your fan base."
"What's that mean?" Katsuki turned to look at Kiri's phone. There was a synopsis of Kuku Shimura's books, at the top in big letters was, Top Selling Boys Love Author Breaks New Selling Records.
"I think he's gay," Kiri raised his brows.
"So, you're going to read them?" Katsuki finished his coffee.
"Well, I've never read a gay romance book."
"You were willing to read it a second ago not knowing the kind of book, what's different?" Katsuki stared at Shitty Hair.
"N-Nothing, sure, I'll order one." Kiri blanched, when Katsuki was being calm that meant he was really pissed. "I'll order it on the way up to the job."
"Good, let me know what you think." Setting down his mug, Katsuki stood, "we have to go." The three men paid their bills and hopped into their work trucks heading to the job sight. Katsuki thought about the kid, he was gay and potentially open, that was different, usually small towns clammed people up tight. Of course, Sero could be right and it was by accident that Kiri saw the books. Katsuki had never revealed his own sexual preferences and everyone just assumed he liked women, but then he had never dated or had sex with anyone even close to town, he wasn't dumb. He didn't need the extras of the town babbling to everyone his business, their mouths were full of his life already. Deku was a cute kid any other place and he'd pick up on him for a one-night stand. Right now, though, he had something Katsuki wanted and this information might help him. Katsuki tapped the wheel thoughtfully, perhaps there was another way to ruffle the kid's feathers, he had seen the look of interest the night of dinner. Shaking his head Katsuki sighed, he knew he couldn't do that, even for the house. He didn't need another entanglement that would end badly. Fuck, no matter what though, the kid didn't need tweedle dee and tweedle dum babbling around town that he was gay. Climbing down from his truck he called to Shitty Hair and Soy Sauce.
"What's up boss man?"
Katsuki clicked his tongue, "Keep the fact that the kid's gay under wraps, I'm not sure he meant for you to see that, at least wait to let him say something." Walking away he started pulling down the tarps they had used to cover the open portion of the porch.
Kiri looked at Sero, "he doesn't like it when we gossip."
Sero sighed, "this is going to be tough to keep quiet, fuck, I wish you hadn't told me."
Izuku packed up the books and found the attic, he shoved them under a tarped old table. Looking under the tarp he gasped, it was clearly the table that had been in the kitchen at one time, it was huge and looked to match the bench under the window. There was some other decent furniture stored up here as well, he lifted a heavy rocking chair, this would be ideal in the living room. Setting it down, he would need to hire some people to move this stuff down for him. Izuku decided to head into town to look around, he wanted to scope out any good places to eat or hang out during the day while he worked. His phone chirped.
Momo - Stop fucking around and write.
Izuku - I just moved in Momo, I'll write tomorrow.
Momo - Forgot to add that I need an updated horoscope for next week's print, the ones you wrote were too bland.
"Fuck," Izuku muttered, Momo was on him about everything. Izuku went down to his office, currently a single desk in one of the extra rooms. Pulling out his laptop, he pulled up the last three months of horoscopes he had sent her. He clicked on the next week and read them. Izuku sighed, they were bland, he must've been depressed the day he wrote them. Opening his astrology program, he grabbed a few of his books and worked on the horoscopes. He loved astrology and it was what he had studied at university, writing romance novels all the while, which proved to be tricky. When he had graduated his career as an author was set in stone but when people asked him what he did for a living he was tongue tied for an answer. Momo had been the one to save him. Their staff horoscope writer was retiring and since Izuku loved astrology, she had him intern with Starry until she was officially gone. They didn't change her name on the syndicated column, so Izuku just picked up where she left off and continued writing horoscopes. It was a strange occupation to share with people but it ranked much higher than a bl romance author. Finishing up the horoscope Izuku looked out the big window, he had a view all the way down to the river that lined the town. His life had definitely turned out very different than he had imagined as a kid, he had always wanted to travel to space or study the stars. Attaching the new horoscope to his email to Momo, he hit send.
The phone chirped.
Momo - Great, now send me the new book.
"UGH! Pushy agents, I left the city to get away from her." Izuku shut his computer down and shoved his phone into his pocket, stomping out the door, he headed into town. The neighborhood was within walking distance to town. The far end by his house was more for locals, hardware store, salon, diner and other basic supply shops. As he walked further down the drag the town changed, everything looked more decorated, the lampposts cuter, the wood fencing along the road immaculately upkept. The shops were more touristy and couples were now walking down the sidewalk. This was where he had stayed when he first visited, he saw the little boutique hotel on the corner. There were adorable shops, restaurants, cafes and hotels, all catering to the tourists, mainly couples. At the far end of town, the infamous Edgewood Spa that had been established hundreds of years ago was built into the hillside, buried deep into a grove of trees. It boasted the world's best spa facilities. The spa was also famous for hosting beautiful weddings around their property of trees. The town had been built to cater to those couples and had become known as the most romantic town. That is what had drawn Izuku in the first place, since romance was his business, he had been curious what made a town romantic. It did a pretty good job.
"Hey Izuku!"
Turning Izuku saw Mina knocking on the window of a store, she went around and popped out the door. She had on an apron with chocolate smeared on her arms. Looking up at the storefront Izuku saw it was a candy store.
"Come in!" She yanked him inside. The smell of chocolate permeated the air along with waffle cones, cotton candy, candied popcorn and caramel apples. The intensity of the sweet-smelling air was intoxicating.
"Wow, it smells really good in here, I want to lick the air." Izuku laughed.
"Try one," running back around Mina picked up a small tree shaped chocolate and gave it to Izuku. He popped it into his mouth, his green eyes closed in deep appreciation.
Rich chocolate had a place in Izuku's heart, he loved sweets, but this was a level of chocolate he had never tasted, it was life changing. "I don't think I can ever eat normal chocolate again." he whispered, small tears in his eyes.
Mina giggled, "I love you, you're the kind of client that I live for!" She laughed as she began to put the chocolate trees on a small conveyor belt behind her.
"What's that?"
"It's a foil wrapper, see," at the far end small colorful foil wrapped chocolates emerged. "Here, one to go," she handed him another chocolate. "You can buy a bag, see them down there." Izuku nodded and walked to the display.
"Why trees?"
"My partner and I designed these about ten years ago and managed to convince the Edgewood to use them as their chocolates that they put on guests' pillows at night." Mina shook her head, "little did we know. We used trees since that's their logo and now they are so famous people want to buy the tree chocolates, only the spa and our shop carry them. It can get hectic when people are leaving, they buy bags of them. Sato and I make them nonstop."
Izuku grabbed two bags, he'd have to find a gym. "I'll take these."
"Perfect, I'll give you the employee discount too, since you're a neighbor." She rang him up.
"Oh shit, they're expensive!"
"Sorry, do you only want one bag?"
"No, no it's fine." Izuku shook his head, "I'll eat them really slow."
"Hey, do you want to have dinner with me tonight? I can't make anything special, unless it's candy, but if you want company, I'd love to hang out."
"Sure, I'm a horrible cook. I usually just eat baked chicken and rice, so if that works for you?"
"I usually order take out so that's a deal."
"I'll see you tonight." Izuku waved and headed out the store. Stopping, he popped his head back in, "hey Mina, um, should I expect anyone else?" He thought of the full house the other day.
"Kiri and Sero might come by, they stop by my house occasionally for dinner, I'll text and tell them to go by your house instead, oh and Kyouka, she's the dispatcher for the police station, she swings by after work for a drink, I'll let her know." Green eyes stared at her, Mina realized he looked surprised, "is that okay?"
"Sure, that's okay." Izuku laughed.
"Sorry I'm kind of like everyone's mom around here, at least the single ones."
"Great, I'll see you all tonight."
Izuku walked back down the street, he had gone from eating alone to possibly another group at his house. He realized he would need to get stuff for dinner, he didn't have much to serve everyone. Heading home, he tucked the chocolates up in his room, no chance anyone was coming across these gems. Climbing into his car, he set the GPS for the food market in the next town. Driving along the main road, a big black truck merged in front of him, license plate KCHN, "ugh, it's him." Izuku clenched his teeth, he followed the directions and Kacchan all the way to the market. "Shit." He sat in his car and watched the blonde hop out of his truck and saunter into the store. "Who saunters into a market? I mean, can't he just walk?" Crap, Izuku huffed, he had a really nice body, he blushed remembering him pressed against his body. "Jerk," he muttered, craning his neck trying to see the entrance. Should he wait? Opening his door quickly he made his decision and ran into the store. Grabbing a small cart, he wheeled to the drink section, peering around the corners for the blonde. Selecting beer and other basic drinks, he picked out food for dinner, then he decided to grab some snacks in case people hated his cooking, which was more often than not. He bought soda and juice for the non-drinkers. Walking to the checkout area, he realized his cart was completely full.
"Having a party?"
Izuku jumped back, his heart pounding in his throat, it was him. "Um, yes, I mean, no, not a party, just people, I think."
Katsuki watched the play of emotions run across his face and chuckled. "Looks like a party based on your cart."
"Well Mina said she'd come over and a Sero and Kiri are coming and a Kyouka maybe?" Izuku scratched his green curls shrugging, "I haven't met everyone yet."
Clicking his tongue Katsuki did not like hearing Shitty Hair and Soy Sauce were going to be there, based on the alcohol in the cart they would absolutely say something dumb in front of everyone. "You bought a lot of chicken."
"Baked chicken, I can't make much." Izuku looked away, he didn't know why but the blonde was making him uncomfortable.
"What time?"
"I think Mina said six, but not sure, seems like it's a pretty open-door policy around here."
"These fuckers will do that Deku, gotta watch the extras. I'll be over early to help with dinner."
Izuku's mouth dropped open, "w-what, w-wait, didn't you just slam me into your truck and threaten me? What the hell? You're not invited." Crossing his arms he glared at the blonde, he was not forgiving him for his treatment the other day.
"That was my way of saying welcome to the neighborhood," Bakugou winked, "remember? I'll be there, I gotta keep an eye on my house and make sure you don't fuck it up." Katsuki spun on his heel and walked to the checkout line. He could hear the kid mumbling behind him. Keeping an eye on the idiot extras was one reason, but he was curious about the kid and what it was going to take to get him to sell.
Stepping up to the front porch Katsuki ran his hand over the beautiful wood, it needed work, the whole house needed attention. He breathed out, he had been rash attacking the kid, he should have just handed him the envelope. Fuck, he had to keep his emotions under control, at least the kid had a fighting streak in him. Knocking on the door he waited looking into the big living room through the rippled glass. It was beautiful but he could see that there was some wear on the seals, Deku was going to freeze in there with the first snow, he really needed to sell.
"Hello?" Izuku opened the door, it was him. Man, it was him, the blonde dominated the doorway, he had changed from his scruffy work clothes into shorts that showed off muscled tan legs and a t-shirt that hugged his chest. The sun had been warm, Izuku could see a thin bead of sweat along his blonde hairline. Suddenly Midoriya felt like he was in one of his own books being swept up by the hero's looks. Glancing away, he realized he had been staring. "Uh, sorry, most of this town doesn't knock so I expect everyone to barrel in," He looked at his watch. "You're early."
"You said you can't cook." Katsuki waited until Deku waved him into the house. There had been a definite spark of interest in those big green eyes.
"I feel like that old saying." Izuku laughed sheepishly. The blonde raised a brow as he handed him a bottle of wine. "The only way a vampire can enter your house is if you invite him," he tilted his head and bit his lip, "I feel like I just invited a vampire into my house."
Katsuki nodded, "I'm not a bad guy Deku, you know what I want, no reason to push it further." He smiled wryly, "I only bite necks for pleasure anyway, not food." Katsuki smiled as the blush raced up the kid's neck to his cheeks.
Izuku turned quickly, taking a deep breath. The thought of him biting his neck sent shivers down his spine, this guy was too good looking. Leading him down the hallway and into the large kitchen, Izuku shook himself mentally. This guy was not someone to mess with, he was after his house.
Katsuki admired the kitchen, it was his favorite room. A song was playing over the speakers the nerd had set up, Waiting Around To Die, by The Be Good Tanyas.
He noticed he had set up a small hibachi on the porch. "Good idea on the grill, but fuck Deku, that's so small, I'll get to cooking now to get enough food made." The blonde grabbed a package of chicken and went outside and started working on the grill. Izuku put the rest into a large pan with some veggies, he grimaced, it looked really plain.
"Where's your seasonings?" Katsuki came back in, he peered at the pan, "yeah you need seasonings on that." He began looking through the drawers.
"I don't have much Kacchan," Izuku pointed to a small cabinet.
"Who the fuck is Kacchan?" Katsuki looked at the nerd.
Freckled cheeks flushed red, Izuku crossed his arms, the blonde was a handful. "Your license plate, KCHN, it reads Kacchan."
Eying him, Katsuki clicked his tongue and looked through the cabinet. Pulling out a few bottles, he sprinkled stuff over the chicken in the pan. "Wrap it in tin foil and bake it, that should taste good enough for this crew, nobody else can cook either, even Racoon Eyes."
"Who the fuck is Racoon Eyes?" Izuku tilted his head, raising his brows sarcastically.
Katsuki bit back a smile. "Mina, bushy brows, into everyone's business, reminds me of a fucking racoon."
Izuku laughed, for the moment he felt a little better about the blonde. "I can see that." He measured out the rice and set the cooker. "I know you brought wine, but I'm not a big drinker." Izuku pulled out a container of iced tea he had made and poured them both a glass.
"That's fine, I don't drink a lot either." Katsuki picked up the glass and stared at the kid as he mixed a pile of sugar into the tea. He furrowed his brows, that looked fucking disgusting. "A little tea with your sugar?"
"Oh, yeah." Izuku blushed as he tasted the sweetness, smacking his lips, he sat down. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Is this a truce of some kind, are you backing off now? Was that all a big joke or something?" Izuku was hoping he would say yes, he was so nervous around the guy he was ready to explode.
Taking a big drink Bakugou shook his head, "no, no truce, I gave you ten days, I'm not going to harass you, like I said, you know what I want."
"What happens in ten days?"
"Are you willing to wait and find out?"
Izuku could feel the challenge rolling off the blonde, red eyes snapped fire. "I think I am."
Walking calmly to the table Katsuki put his hands on either side of the nerd, who sat back as far as possible in his chair. Bakugou leaned into Deku's ear, "I look forward to watching your sweet little ass move out."
Frozen in terror Izuku gripped his glass, the blonde's hot breath tickled his ear, chills swept over his body, he tried to breathe.
"Hey guys, I can hear you both sulking in here, is anyone dead yet?" Mina called from the front door.
Katsuki stood slowly and sat on the window bench.
Izuku palpably relaxed, he was so relieved as Mina walked in the kitchen.
"No Mina, just having a nice conversation." Katsuki kept his gaze on the kid, who had jumped up nervously. The pink haired woman snorted. She dropped a bag of salad stuff on the counter.
"Katsuki, what in the world brings you over tonight?" She asked innocently.
"I heard you were making dinner for my crew and I need them alive Raccoon Eyes, I figured if I didn't cook, I'd have to hire new people." Mina laughed as she pulled a bowl from the cabinet. "So did you sell to him yet Izuku?"
"Mina, really," Izuku glared at her. Everyone but him seemed to think it was a laughing matter.
Sero and Kiri came in next with Kyouka behind them. "Oh shit Katsuki, if I had known you were here tonight, I would've invited Camie, she's been dying to hang out with you again." She pulled out her phone.
"Fuck no Headphones, I'd rather not deal with more extras than I have to tonight." Bakugou clicked his tongue, if Camie showed up, he was bailing.
"Okay, but she's gonna be bummed. She's always bragging on how you two dated last summer."
Izuku glanced back at the blonde, he'd had the impression that he was into guys but maybe he was wrong. He had been mistaken before, pushing away the image of Neito, Izuku sighed, some guys came across strong but he would find out later they were actually straight.
"I'm starving, when do we eat?" Sero stood up looking into the oven. "Is it ready?"
"Almost," Izuku looked at the timer, "I'll mix the rice, Kacchan, can you get the grilled chicken?" The blonde looked at him rolling his eyes, he went outside to finish grilling the meat.
"Uh Izuku, what's up with the name Kacchan?" Sero looked at him funny.
"His license plate, I read it out as Kacchan, so I've been calling him that," he grabbed his oven mitts. "Do you think it bugs him?"
Sero shrugged, "if something bugs him, he'll let you know."
Izuku laughed, "that's an understatement!" Pulling dinner out of the oven, Izuku looked at his tiny table, "sorry guys, I was thinking of dragging that big table out of the attic at some point, but tonight we have to use my small one." The blonde came back in with another big tray of grilled chicken. Izuku set the pan on his stovetop. "Yeah, we may have to leave the food on the counter."
"There's a table in the attic?" Kiri hopped up, "let's get it and bring it down, that way we have some room."
"It's probably heavy though," Izuku looked at everyone. "Are you sure? It could be hard to get down the stairs."
"There's six of us here, this is the time to get it down." Kiri pulled up his sleeve and flexed his arm. "Look at these muscles," he winked at Izuku, "I'm sexy, aren't I?" The blonde slammed the red head on the back, "Fuck!" Kiri barked, "that hurt Katsuki."
"Um, are you sure?" Izuku wasn't sure what to think, these people continued to be strange.
"Let's go get the table and shut our traps." Katsuki knew Shitty Hair would say something stupid.
Izuku led the way up to the second floor and the big door which opened to a small staircase and the attic. Pulling the tarp off the table he revealed a beautiful farmhouse table.
"This is nice Izuku," Mina whistled, rubbing her hand over the firm wood. Everyone grabbed a part of the table and turning it sideways they were able to easily move it out into the hall and down the stairs. Izuku let go and ran around trying to keep the legs from smashing into the wood banister. They finally manhandled the table into the kitchen, it fit perfectly under the picture windows and the long bench.
"Wow, that looks really nice." Izuku laid down his few mats and put the plates out. "Thanks so much for your help." Putting the food on the table, everyone sat down and dug into the food.
"Hey you can cook Izuku, I thought you said you couldn't cook." Mina scooped more chicken and rice on her plate.
"Oh, I can't, believe me, I've been told. Kacchan did the seasonings, not me, so he gets the credit." Izuku smiled. He glanced up at the blonde whose red eyes were staring directly at him. Blushing, he looked down at his plate.
"They all suck at cooking Deku," Bakugou forked more chicken onto his plate, "this is why I rarely attend these dinners because they serve a bunch of crap. It's usually pizza from the local pizza station. But tonight, this is good."
Izuku nodded, the blonde was right, it was surprisingly tasty. Eating, Midoriya sat quietly listening to the group talking about their day. There were few stories of unknown people in town, he noticed a couple of times Kacchan would glare at the person talking and they would shut up. Izuku got the feeling that this group liked to gossip, but not the blonde, he clearly shut down anything that started to delve into personal territory.
"Wow Izuku," Sero sat back, "this was really amazing, thanks so much. I'm surprised you said you couldn't cook, I always thought people like you were good cooks."
"People like me?" Izuku titled his head, furrowing his brows.
Katsuki put his arm around the Soy Sauce's shoulders hard, "out of towners, most people from out of town know how to cook." He glared at the extra, fuck, these two were idiots.
"He's right, this was awesome Izuku, thanks," Kiri patted his belly. "Maybe you'd let us come by again some time?"
"Sure, you're welcome anytime." Izuku laughed to himself, the people might be odd, but they were nice.
"You've fucking gone and done it now Deku," Katsuki shook his head, "these extras will never leave you alone."
"That's okay Kacchan," Izuku smiled.
Mina stood up and carried plates to the sink, "Well, I have an early day tomorrow."
"Us too," Katsuki looked at the guys pointedly, they all stood and helped clear.
After they cleaned up and said goodnight, they headed out into the summer twilight. Closing the door Izuku grinned, so that's what it was like to have a dinner party. He'd had Momo over for dinner occasionally but she usually just wanted to talk about his new story ideas. Growing up he and his mom rarely had anyone over. The lively banter tonight was nice, the blonde may have been warning him, but Izuku was glad he had left the invitation open to everyone. He genuinely hoped they would come again. Outside of the crazy situation with Kacchan, he was glad he had moved here. Heading up to his room Izuku took his laptop into bed with him. Opening the blank page, he stared at the screen and could think of nothing. Suddenly the blonde popped in his mind, his teasing red eyes, 'I only bite necks for pleasure' Izuku grinned, his fingers began flying across the keyboard.
