"Great fifth period!" I told myself as I opened the door. Today was supposed to be a free day since we had just completed our final the day prior.
What to do what to do…
I sat at my seat contemplating what I should do with this free period. Maybe I should study? Nah that's a dumb idea. I rummaged through my bag searching for something to fiddle with. Aha! My favorite manga! I forgot I brought it here.
I began to read. Ah, I remember how good it was. The time flew by, and I eventually looked up from my desk to check the clock. About thirty more minutes in this period till I got to go home. I began to look back down at my manga when I caught a glimpse of a person looking at me. It was that pink haired girl who sat two seats away from me. I looked back at her and we made eye contact. Her face turned red, and she quickly looked at her desk. Whatever, I guess.
I went back to reading. I went to check the clock again, but I caught a glimpse of her looking at me again. What's her problem? I looked at her with a confused look. She turned red again and looked back at her desk.
What is wrong with her?
The class was almost over anyways I might talk to her after. What was her name again? I tried remembering the attendance call today. It started with an "N" I vaguely remembered.
Natasha? No that wasn't it.
The bell rang, and everyone got out of their seats and began to walk out of the classroom to go home. I followed suit and quickly stuffed all my stuff into my bag.
I opened the door to leave but I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and I saw her. She was way shorter than I expected.
"H-hey," she said to me.
"Uh hi?" I replied.
"So.." she mumbled.
"What did you say?" I asked confused.
"Are you in a club by any chance?" She asked.
That was a random question. Come to think of it I never looked into joining a club. Most of my friends were in ones that I had no interest in.
"No, not yet why do you ask?" I replied.
"I just saw you reading manga so I thought you might want to join the club I'm in" she replied.
"And what club is that?" I replied a little snarky. She glared at me. I shouldn't have said that.
"The literature club" she mumbled.
"The literature club?" I said chuckling.
"Hey if your gonna judge just go right ahead!" She said annoyed. I swear she wanted to end my life right now.
That was rude I shouldn't have said that. What should I say now?
"Sorry, sorry I'll look at the club if you want" I replied trying to salvage the situation. Her face lit up and she smiled.
"There's no club today but tomorrow we'll meet up here so I can show you it" she said joyfully.
"Whatever you say" I replied.
I began to walk out of the classroom when I remembered something.
"Hey, I never caught your name" I asked her.
"Natsuki and you?" She replied.
"MC, I'll see you around" I replied.
We parted ways and I began my walk home. Man, what a day.
The sun was shining, and I wanted to go out for a run but then I realized that I had a whole essay to write by the end of today.
I'm such an idiot why did I put it off for the last day?
I began to jog home and soon it became a run. I got home and ran all the way upstairs.
Idiot, idiot, idiot.
It was a long night. I didn't go to bed till two in the morning. I better get an A for this. I awoke at six and got ready to leave for school. I went downstairs to the kitchen and prepared breakfast. When I mean "prepared" I mean pouring myself a bowl of cereal. I never learned to cook. It's not like my parents were ever around to teach me well, anything. They were always on long business trips and rarely ever showed up. Life was lonely.
I trudged to school. I'm surprised I even got up at all. If I didn't, I swear Natsuki would've murdered me. The first four periods passed like a blur. The fifth period was boring as always, and I was so tired already, so I decided to take a nap. I awoke to a nudging on my shoulder. I looked up and saw her with blurry vision.
"Alright enough sleeping the club is going to end in twenty minutes!" She said.
"Did I sleep through the bell?" I yawned.
"What do you think?" she replied annoyingly.
"It was nice of you to let me sleep for a little bit" I smirked.
"Y-you idiot" she said looking at the ground.
"Whatever let's go to the club already" she said not making eye contact with me.
"Whatever you say" I said standing up from my chair.
She led me through the halls and eventually stopped at classroom 27-G. This was my marine biology class in my sophomore year. She opened the door, and a rush of fresh air and sunlight touched my face. All the windows in the room were open. I scanned the room and only saw three other people. Aren't clubs supposed to have a lot of people?
"Hey, Natsuki are we in the right room?" I asked skeptically.
"Why wouldn't we be?" she said.
"It's just that- "
"We're a small club" she cut me off.
"Let me introduce you to everyone" she said to me dragging me to one of the three girls.
The first one she introduced me to was Monika the club president. I know her as we take first period geometry together. Next was Sayori and she is like a bastion of happiness. After her was Yuri, she was so shy and rarely ever made eye contact. I'll have a difficult time talking to her. I spent the next ten minutes talking to the girls and getting to know them better.
I was talking to Sayori about food when Natsuki pulled a tray of cupcakes out from the backroom.
"Did you back these Natsuki?" I asked her as she handed them to everyone.
"Of course! It's a special occasion, it's not every day we get a new member" she said smugly.
I looked at the cupcake in my hand. I could that she put a lot of effort into making these. I looked up and saw her looking at me intently.
"Well, are you going to eat it? she said annoyed.
"It's just so cute I don't think I will" I smirked.
"Why you little- "she said but before she could complete her sentence, I took a bite out of the cupcake. It was so good. The frosting a sugary bread tasted like heaven.
"Do you like it?" she asked looking at the ground.
"This is the best thing I've ever eaten!"
"Ha, I knew it" her face lit up. It made me smile. She's cute when she smiles.
Sayori had already eaten her cupcake and got up to hug Natsuki.
"I knew you would bring in a new member I just knew it!" She said joyfully.
Natsuki stared at me and finally said. "You are staying right?".
Do I even have the time for a club? The work is piling up quicker than I can finish it. I don't know but I can't ruin that smile.
"Sure why not" I said. She smiled again but then looked to the ground.
"It's not like I care or anything" she said.
Then why did you ask?
"Alright folks it's time to wrap this club up for today" Monika said.
I began to pack my bag and got ready to leave.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow," Natsuki said about to leave through the door.
"You better show up, don't ditch us!" she added quickly.
"Dont worry Natsuki I'll show" I said.
She left giving me one last smile.
With that, my story in the literature club began.
