A/n: This story takes place between Birth of The Ultimate Hunter and The Ultimate Hunter, but is an au. For any fans of H.H and Helluva Boss sorry if I get some info wrong.
Five years ago:
Within an ally way David groaned as his entire body felt sore as he tried to move. Once he was able to stand back up he tried to remember what had happened. The last thing he remembered was his battle with a demon Raika had summoned and how he and Taki had tried to defeat it. Kirika had created a portal to trap the demon but David had been pulled in with it. Now he was lost in wherever they sent him and the demon.
David looked over his surroundings and saw he was in a city. However he noticed a good number of hints that gave him a good idea of where he was. The biggest of them was a large pentagram that hung in the sky.
Sadly before he could try and figure out where he really was he heard the sound of someone running. David looked around to see what he assumed was one of the inhabitants of the city running in his direction. As they got closer David got a better look at them and was surprised by what he saw. The person if he could call them that resembled an anthropomorphic canine wearing a punk rock attire. The canine soon ran into David without paying attention.
?: Watch wher-
The canine then looked wide eyed at David. To David's surprise he had forgotten his armor was still equipped and had definitely left an impression on the canine before him. Sadly before either could say a word to one another three winged beings had landed before the two. David looked these beings over and found everything about them unsettling. Their faces or rather their masks varied from a false smile to down right sadistic glee. He also saw each one bore a halo above their horned heads. David had an idea of what these three were but he would need some more information and on the ground in front of him was such a person.
David then moved to put the canine behind him so that he could deal with the trio. It wasn't a long wait as one of the winged beings charged at him with a spear. He simply side stepped and once it was close enough he punched it hard enough to send it crashing into a nearby car. The other two prepared to charge at David who got into a fighting stance. The canine had moved to a safe distance as the four began to fight eachother. The canine soon took out a phone and began recording the fight. One of the winged beings tried to catch David with it's sword. On the final strike David caught the sword in hand and proceeded to punch the beings face/mask causing it to crack. The second winged being charged in ready to swing it's ax only for David to use the other winged being as a meat shield. Once the ax was lodged in it's companion David proceeded to shove the two away from him. He then activated his arm blade and cut both winged beings in half.
David: Not as tough as I-AH!
He looked to see a spear had gone through his left shoulder. To his surprise it turned out these winged being's weapons could actually effect his armor. He then turned to the remaining winged being who was injured when he punched it. He also noticed it tried to make a face on it's broken mask. Soon enough more of the winged beings appeared with various weapons all ready to try and kill the one responsible for the death of the two of their comrades. As a show he was ready for them, David tore the spear from his shoulder and readied himself.
Time skip:
A loud chime echoed throughout the city signaling an end to yet another purge. As many sinners began to leave their hiding spots they were not ready for what awaited them. They expected a number of sinners to have died by the exterminators, but what they saw even made them froze at the sight of the carnage before them. Before them were the littered remains of the very beings they hid from. Some were torn apart while others were smashed so bad there would be no way of possibly putting them back together. However what made it worse was the one responsible for said carnage. Standing atop a pile of mangled exterminators was the culprit breathing heavily as he was covered in their blood. To make it worse he also had a few spears still impaled within him.
Random Imp: H-Holy shit.
The armored being then grabbed one of the spears lodged in him and proceeded to pull it out. As he removed the remaining spears he walked over to where the canine was still holding their phone with an expression of utter horror. Once he was in front of the person he defended and removed the last spears and spoke.
David: *pant* Name?
?: W-What?
David: *pant* What *pant* is your Name?
?: C-Crymini.
David: Good. *pant* Now tell me, what were those fuckers I just killed?
Before she could responded to his question David collapsed on to his knees. Do to his injuries he had lost quite a bit of blood. He tried to remain conscious for as long as possible. Sadly everything soon faded to black as his face met the ground.
Time skip:
Hours had passed since the annual purge and David didn't know how long he was unconscious for. As he awoke everything was a blur, but as everything came into focus he saw he was within a new location. David then raised his left arm and saw some of the damage had faded. Sadly however he had yet to fully recover as he still bore some wounds that haven't fully regenerated.
?: Good to see your finally awake.
David turned to see who the person was. Standing in the same room was a man who wore a white suite and carried a cane topped with an apple. He clearly wasn't human and gave off an aura of superiority.
David: Where am I and who are you?
?: Relax, I'm not here to cause harm. Besides I believe your run-in with the exterminators showed you can take quite a lot.
David: Exterminators?
?: Yes, but you would know them better as angels.
David: So, I really am in hell. But why did they attack like that and why we're they here?
?: Follow me and I shall tell you everything you wish to know.
The man then began to leave the room. David was hesitant at first but what other options did he have. He soon began to follow the stranger out of the room.
?: You see my young mortal friend, there is an issue here in hell which has become a concern to both I and others. Currently hell is dealing with overpopulation and we sought a solution.
David: The exterminators.
?: Yes. It wasn't exactly our first choice but it was necessary.
As they walked David looked at the environment around him. After taking in the decor he realized he was in either a mansion or a castle. Soon enough David began to see portraits, one of which was of the stranger and what David could assume was his family. David then stopped and looked at the stranger.
David: Who exactly are you?
David watched as the stranger's smile grow into a grin.
?: You stand in the presence of the ruler of hell.
David: Lucifer. Odd, I'd expected you to look more intimidating.
Lucifer: As do most mortals sent here to hell. Now that you know who I am, I expect you to share the same courtesy.
David: Very well. My name is David Santiago and I am a demon hunter.
Lucifer: That would explain your skills. But that armor of yours is quite interesting.
David: You don't know anything about it?
Lucifer: No. But I'm sure you know more about it then I.
The two continued their walk until they reached their destination which was Lucifer's office.
Lucifer: Before we continue mind removing your armor.
David: Forgive me if I feel a little suspicious.
Lucifer: Understandable from your point of view, but you have nothing to fear from me. Besides if I wanted to try something I would have already done so.
David felt some honesty from the ruler of hell and with a moment of hesitation decided to deactivate his armor. Once the armor separated from it's host Lucifer saw a young man covered in tattered cloths. He then went to inspect David and saw where the wounds on the armor were and saw no marks or blood stains.
Lucifer: Interesting. No signs of your recent battle save for your torn cloths.
David: It's thanks to the armor's regenerative capabilities.
Lucifer: Indeed. With that armor you survived what many here would not. However just as your actions caught my attention so would it gain heavens. Which brings me to why I brought you here.
David: And why did you bring me here?
Lucifer: I wish to make an offer. I would like to take you on as my family's bodyguard.
David: Forgive me, I must of misheard you. Did you ask me, a demon hunter to be a bodyguard for you and your family?
Lucifer: I did indeed. It would be a waste to squander such great potential. I have seen many humans who hunted down demons, up until the profession became rare. Now standing before me is a mortal with the strength to face some of hell's heavy hitters. The decision is entirely up to you.
David began to think and weigh his options. He had no way of returning to his home as he was all but trapped in hell. He also knew that being allied with Lucifer would help him a great deal. He sighed as he tried to figure out what to do.
David: Any expectations?
Lucifer: Only that you follow my word and be ready to defend my family.
David: Very well then, you got your bodyguard.
Lucifer: Excellent. Now I think it would be best to get you a new set of clothes.
A/N: And so ends the first chapter. Sorry if you find it short, but I thought to leave some things for later chapters.
