Superman's First Public Address

A camera turns on, revealing a too-close face of man in downtown New York. He's in a kinkos-esqe polo, sets down the camera, and steps back into the middle of the frame.

He's wearing a rather large nametag with the word "MIKE" on it.

"Hi, I'm Mike, short for michelangelo.

I need your help. and your influence.

I have some abilities, but am not sure how to use them.

What i'd like is to end the global warming crisis. And Covid.

But I'm not 100% sure how to do it. But I'm pretty sure we can. Like, maybe in 6 months. Not sure.

I've written some descriptions of what I can do. I can fly very fast. And I can lift some heavy objects.

As an example, I'll help Jer here fix his plumbing problem. Whataya need Jer?"

Jer, a man in a construction hat, holding a clipboard, looks grave and wizened.

"Well I need to get this 45 inch pipe" - Jer points to an enormous pipe

"hooked up there" - Jer points up twenty feet to a matching pipe coming out of a half-finished skyrise.

"Sure thing Jer"

Mike grabs the pipe and effortlessly flies it up near the matching hole, 40 ft in the air. He looks at the hole, then the pipe.

"So do I just slide it in?"

"Yep." Jer almost berps, still reading a blueprint.

Mike looks a little nervous, shruggs, then delicately slides it in. It makes an awful groan as it goes. Mike shrinks, looks at Jer, who just nods without looking.

"Almost there" Mike winces, but proceeds. The groan grows. "Aaaaaand stop. Thanks Mike! That'll be all. "

Mike flies down. "Thanks Jer" Then looks right at the camera, walking in close.

"This is where you come in. I want to make things better. Help how I can. And I'd like your ideas.

Lets see what we can do here. Please, send me your ideas, and vote on other people's.

Designs for methods to reverse global warming are welcome.

Designs for a power turbine are welcome.

Designs for how to use these powers to better man are welcome.

Ideas for how to terraform Mars and start civilizations on other planets NOW.

We're all new to this, and we'll figure it out together.

Fellow citizens of the world. Wow, what an amazing response so far.

I'm here on the World Mars Station, this is Sargent Jacobs, Yin Cho Cu, and Miss Ramirez.

We're seeing what we can do and learn to make mars colonizable. Would you believe NASA had this stuff just laying around, ready to go to mars? They had a simulated station already in progress. For years! I had no idea.

Sargent Jacobs, Mises Cu, and Miss Ramirez had been practicing this very mission since when I was still in college!

Speaking of which. I've seen the world come alive with questions about my origins. The truth is … that I'm from Kansas. And my powers developed two years ago. I honestly don't know why or how. But If there are others like me out there. I welcome you to reach out and collaborate. I could certainly use a set of hands.

Speaking of, thank you everyone for all of your other ideas. I love the powerplant designs. The CO2 filters, and the nanothread designs (for a space elevator?). We're also working on bringing an asteroid to the surface of earth. I had no idea how much the world needed gold and copper for their material properties, and how hard they are to get out of the ground safely! I'm told we will have a plan within the month.

Thank you also for your contributions to my account! And uh… for making me one! But I'm amazed by the funding gathered for projects already. My calendar has really been filling up! As it should be. I'm glad you guys are keeping me busy.

Well that's all for now, I'm looking forward to playing miss Ramirez in some ping-pong!

Hello fellow citizens of the world!

I'm standing on the foundations of a combination power generator/CO2 trapper. I'm told there's a chemical process to do it, but that requires power that I can provide! Turns out it's powered by me just moving a LOT of water. Water stores better than electricity. And it's easy to move in large batches!

But before we talk more about that I'd like to take some time to address some serious concerns.

In terms of intervening in the Sudan Rebellion. I am a builder, not a fighter. I will not participate in violence. It's not my style! As much as I might want to help, I'll let government bodies like the UN get involved and decide.

I also want to recognize that some people are scared of what I could do. All I can say is I'm not raising an army. I'm not a god. And I will never 'throw an asteroid at earth'. I would be very lonely very quickly. Again, I'm a builder, not a fighter.

All that settled, let's talk about this beautiful building! I'm told it will be done in three months. Once it's built it'll take 50 years to get the entire planet back to normal. I'm told this might not be fast enough to prevent species loss, so we might build another!

Both of these buildings will be built with iron from Cerberus II. An asteroid we located made almost entirely out of iron. I have *already* carefully set it down and we have begun mining it! Thank you to the astronomers of the Nevada Astronomy club, St Helens observational tower and all the other astronomers who helped find this asteroid!

"Fellow citizens of earth. Covid19 has become a mounting worldwide problem.

Today, ten thousand people died due to this disease. Many more will if we do not do something.

It is clear that herd immunity will not save us before 100 million people die.

Carol Humpheries of Adelade, Australia has proposed one month of worldwide quarantine. So we propose one full month of quarantine starting in August. That gives everyone 2 months to prepare. 2 months to gather food and have water ready. 2 months to fix our houses and store our energies. 2 months to finish our harvests.

One idea I will ask everyone to vote on, worldwide, is if in August we can prepare to have a month-long quarantine to stop COVID19. I'm happy to provide any assistance to make this possible.

We will ask the governments of the world to enforce these measurements, assuming their population votes in favor of this move.

But, we need you, the citizens of earth, to vote for this measure to take place.

To help this, we will build 100 million steel houses for those in refugee camps. We will transfer food to those in an emergency. But don't rely on this. Trust me, we're making the food barely edible. You don't want to live on that for months.

We will also provide water for the dams we've built around the world. I'm sure I will stay VERY busy filling those up in the meantime."

"It would seem that some truthful information about me has been leaked. Some of this information is true. It is true that my powers arrive from krypton. It is true that I arrived from krypton as a baby. Some people will tell you that I am not human. And while I might not be homo-sapien, I would argue that I am still human. After all, what makes a man a man? All men feel sadness, happiness, fear, wonder, hope. All men are born and raised. All men love, speak, lead, follow, admire, create and invent. Men are defined by what they are, not by what they are not. So I am a man.

It is true that I knew this information before today. In fact I knew some of this from before day 1. All I can say is. A) I wasn't sure that information was true. And B) can you blame me? "

"The US government has chosen to invade Iraq. The US government had over 6,185 Nuclear warheads and 9 aircraft carriers. The UN did object, but did not take action. I do not blame them. This was a wise decision. The UN had no nukes and 1 aircraft carrier. They couldn't have stopped them if they tried.

However, they have asked me to stop the US government. My government.

I am sad. I am conflicted. I am weary. And I have accepted.

But, upon consideration, I've realized that the problem was not the US governments choice. It was that the US had the choice. A choice afforded by their military might.

I have removed all the nuclear warheads and carriers by force. They are all kept offplanet - where they can no longer hurt the human race.

And then I realized the error of my ways. The error of inaction when action was needed. Nuclear warfare is the greatest threat to the end of humanity. And I've let it persist for too long.

The human race could've ended at any time. And no one would be able to stop it. We've had far, far too many close calls already.

I've chosen to remove the nuclear weapons of Iran, Russia, England, France, Israel, India, Pakistan, and China.

Many of you will disagree with my choice. Many of my own people disagree with my choice. I understand. Sometimes I disagree with my choice. And yet I made it.

They will call me a tyrant. That I am corrupted. That my power has gotten to me.

All I can say to that is, humanity will survive to say it.
