please make my day and leave comments having a shitty week.
Trent realized he had no way to call a taxi as he stood outside.
There was some taxis driving around however but that's not how it worked right? You had to call.
He was bewildered he didn't even know where to go. Maybe he could ask for directions.
There was a lady that was on her cell phone ranting about something.
"No! You canceled the meeting twice today! I'm not going back to the offices, I'm going home to my husband!" The lady ranted in the phone.
Trent walked up to the lady and politely waited for her conversation to end.
After a few seconds, the brunette noticed he was standing there "I have to go bye."
The mocha-skinned woman looked at Trent with a frown " no I'm not interested in anything you're selling."
Trent looked confused " oh I'm not selling anything, I actually need your help. I um can't get a taxi cause I don't have a phone so I was asking for directions to the nearest phone store." He said scratching the back of his neck.
The girl raised her perfectly plucked eyebrows "why don't you just hail a cab? You're not from here are you?"
"Hailing a cab? And uh no I'm not, how'd you know?" Was he really that readable? And what the hell was hailing a cab.
"I can tell by your Canadian accent. But any way you simply do this." She said before walking towards the edge of the sidewalk. The woman put two fingers to her mouth and whistled loudly before waving her other arm.
A few seconds later a taxi pulled up.
Trent was slightly shocked but thankful that he wouldn't have to walk.
"You can take this cab and I'll take the next one, I have a phone call to finish and I don't need people eavesdropping." She said gesturing to the cab driver.
"Thank you so much I really appreciate it. it was nice meeting you- um..."
"Courtney. Courtney Barlow. And if you need a lawyer here's my card, this city is going to eat you alive." She said slightly pitying him.
He took the card kinda confused at what she said before giving her one more thanks before getting in the taxi.
"Where you heading to." The taxi driver said gruffly.
"Can you take me to the nearest phone store?" Trent asked.
The driver grumbled and starting the car and pulling out from the sidewalk.
It was a thick uncomfortable silence in the car.
Trent felt himself shift before trying to spark a conversation " so um how are you." He said.
The man didn't answer and just turned the radio up blasting loud Mexican music.
Trent winced "c-can you turn it down? Excuse me?"
The man turned the radio down and glanced at him in the rearview mirror.
"Can you please turn it down?" Trent asked again.
The man gave him a flat look and turned the music up louder than it was before.
Trent sighed he couldn't wait to get the hell out of this cab.
After a long agonizing 15 minutes of music blasting in his ears, he finally arrived to the phone store.
Trent paid for the ride and quickly got out of the car not bothering to say thank you. He sighed as the driver sped off.
He looked around and saw a phone store.
"Cricket? hmm not bad" he said before walking inside to get his phone.

After getting set up with his brand new iPhone he called a new taxi driver and headed to the store.
He arrived at Walmart immediately heading to the clothing section after grabbing a shopping basket. He browsed picking things he liked. A green shirt with a handprint on it and Black jeans.
This was easier than he thought.
He realized that since he was taking a taxi home he should shop lightly.
Trent grabbed a few more things before heading to the food.
He looked at the things they had and wondered if he should buy microwaving food or actual food he could cook.
A woman stopping next to him snapped him out of his thoughts.
"I'm sorry am I in your way?" He asked avoiding eye contact. He hope the lady wasn't as rude as his last taxi driver.
The woman shook her head "no your fine." She smiled.
Trent just nodded before going back to his shopping.
Grabbing strawberries and grapes he noticed the woman next to him reaching for something on a higher shelf but failing miserably.
He saw her about to climb the shelf when he figured he should help.
"Here I can help." He said reaching up and grabbing the berries the woman was reaching for.
Handing the Woman the berries he actually got a good look at her.
She had pale skin with black hair and dark brown eyes with greenish teal streaks in her hair. Her green lipstick-covered lips smiled gratefully as she took the berries from Trent's hand.
"Sorry, it's hard when they put my favorite paint ingredients on the highest shelf for a 5'5 girl to grab you know." She said sarcastically with a smile.
Trent looked at the woman in confusion "you're making paint with berries?"
"Yeah, I make my own paint with natural products." The girl shrugged.
Trent didn't know why but he found himself attracted to this girl. Then a thought hit him, goth girls? Does he have a thing for them? Is this what he was into before he got into the crash?
"Oh that's cool, must be a really good painter to uh make your own paint." He said smiling while scratching his neck.
She just looked at him amused " oh yeah? What if I was to tell you that I sell paint instead of art?"
"I- um I would be surprised."
The woman tilted her head slightly, eyes sparkling in amusement "and why do you think that?"
"I don't know you just sound a little too passionate about paint to just sell paint." He chuckled trying to not look intimidated by the woman.
The lady laughed " well I guess your right, your pretty observant. What are you? A therapist?"
"No actually and thanks," Trent said avoiding the job question. He hoped she wouldn't ask. She probably wouldn't be into him if she found out he didn't have a job.
"Hm that's surprising, I'm Gwen ." She said extending her arm out so he could shake his hand.
Trent shook her hand "Trent." He noticed she felt cold but it weirdly felt refreshing for some reason.
"Nice to meet you. I'm sorry if this seems rude but you're not from here are you?" Gwen said with a slight smirk.
Trent chuckled nervously "not really. What gave it away"
"The Canadian accent and the shyness." Gwen chuckled.
He laughed "so people here in New York aren't shy?"
Gwen snorted "hell no. If anything they're either rude, arrogant, or scammers. Then you get the few percent that actually are nice."
"So I take it you're one of the nice ones?"
Gwen shoots him a lazy smile "not really."
Trent noticed they had begun shopping together.
"Well you're being nice to me, am I an exception?" He teased.
"Why do you want to be." She smiled grabbing a sketchbook.
"It would be nice." He laughed.
They continued the conversation until they arrived at check out. Trent noticed she didn't have as much stuff as he did.
"Do you want me to pay? I don't mind." Trent asked her.
Gwen's eyes widen in surprise "seriously? I couldn't ask you to do that-" she said before getting cut off.
"Don't worry just think of it as a thank you for keeping me company and being kind." He smiled paying for his things before paying for hers.
Once they got their groceries bagged they went outside the store
Trent got his phone out to call a taxi.
"Thank you for everything" she smiled
"No problem anytime, get home safely." He said genuinely.
Gwen smiled before heading down into the parking lot. He couldn't help but smile widely.
He felt kinda sad seeing her go. He knew he'd most likely never see her again. New York was a really big place.
He stood at the front of the store on hold with the taxi company when a black Toyota Corolla pulled up next to him.
"Do you need a ride?" A voice called out.
Trent looked to see Gwen waving from the driver's seat. He smiled widely grabbing his bags and putting them in the car.
"Thank you, I was on hold for the taxi company." He said fasting his seatbelt.
Gwen started the car "well you paid for my things. Like 75 worth of stuff. So it would be shitty of me not to give you a ride."
Trent laughed "I mean yes and no."
She shot him a glance "please there's no way someone would pay for something things and leave them to walk or on hold with a taxi." She laughed.
Trent felt his spirits dampen as he realized they were at his apartment complex.
"Well again thank you for the ride." He said grabbing his bags.
"No problem, I um." She said.
"Yeah." He asked hoping she'd asked for his number.
"I was going to say I don't mind at all. If you see me don't be a stranger okay?" She smiled shyly.
Trent felt slightly disappointed, she didn't see him that way or she would have asked for his number "I definitely won't, see you around Gwen."
"See ya," Gwen said before driving off.
Trent went inside his apartment, even though a part of him was disappointed he was happy. At least he got to hang out with her.
But then reality hit him. She wouldn't be into me anyway. Why would she wasn't someone who can't even remember their past?
He swatted his thoughts out of his mind before putting up his groceries.

He sat on the couch watching a show called pretty little Liars and eating some fried chicken he bought from the store.
He honestly didn't know why he was watching this show but he felt drawn to it for some reason. It was pretty good though.
After eating he took his medication before laying in his bed playing a game on his phone.
"Count the circles on the screen..." he muttered reading his phone screen.
"One, two, three..." he began counting.
After counting he counted 9 circles.
His head started throbbing and he groaned putting his phone on his bed to put pressure on his head.
-Flashback-
"Can I go and say hi to grandpa now! Please, please, please, please!" 10-year-old Trent stood by his parents who were taking out their suitcases.
Every summer Trent and his family would visit his grandparents. He adored his grandmother but his grandfather and himself had a close unbreakable bond.
"Wait your sister is sleeping, let us wake her up." His mom said chuckling.
"Mommy, please! I want to show him the train I got him!" Trent said with two trains in his hand.
One was a train his grandfather got him. the other was a present Trent got him. It was a nice brand new white and blue train. The train his grandfather got him was green and white.
His mom sighed looking at her husband and he just shrugged. "Fine, you can go inside."
Trent ran to the front door and knocked excitedly.
His grandma opened the door with a smile gracing her face.
"Trent!" She said happily hugging him. He hugged her back happy to see her.
"Hi, grandma! I got grandpa a present do you want to come with me to give it to him?"
"Of course, your grandfather just got out of the shower. He's been excited to see everyone." She said walking Trent up the stairs.
Even though both his grandparents were old they were in great shape for their age.
When they arrived to their grandparent's room Trent saw his grandfather sitting on his bed putting on his shoes.
"Grandpa!" Trent yelled running up to him and hugging him.
"Trenton!" His grandfather yelped joyously hugging him back.
"How are you doing? Have you been being good?" The older man asked.
"Yes I have, I got a toy guitar for Christmas!" Trent beamed brightly.
The grandfather and his grandmother exchanged knowing looks.
"Is that right? Well, I have a surprise that your grandma and I want to give you and your sister later." His grandfather smiled.
"Really!" Trent said forgetting all about the present he got his elder.
"Really!" He laughed in reply.
"Trent, don't you have a little something for your grandpa?" She hinted with a smile.
Trent remember the present he had and smiled "I got you this!"
"For me?" He smiled grabbing the present and opening it.
He opened it to see a toy train "thank you, Trent! I love it, it's just like the one I got you!"
"Yeah, it's your favorite colors," Trent said smiling widely.
"Thank you, Trent, how about I fix that loose wheel on your train you were telling me about yesterday and we can play on the new train set."
"Yes!" He said joyously.
"Hi mom, dad." Trent's mom and dad came into the room, behind her was his big sister and mom.
They all hugged and greeted and talked for a little before Trent's grandmother spoke up "you guys want to see the garden? I put a pond in it a few weeks ago. Come on earl you can show Trent your present." She said getting up.
"I'll be there in a second I'm gonna take an aspirin for this headache I have Mariam," Earl said.
"Do you want some water?" The teenage girl spoke up.
"Yeah, that would be nice."
"I'll go get it, grandpa!" Trent said before running downstairs.
His dad chuckled "alright we'll see you two outside we're going to look at the garden."
Everyone left out the room except earl. He reached in his drawer to get his medicine when he felt a strong surge in his head.
Trent got the bottled water as fast as he could and ran upstairs.
Jogging in the room he saw his grandpa laying down.
"Here you go!" Trent said holding out the water.
He didn't move.
Trent smiled and walked beside the bed "grandpa here's your water." He said nudging his arm.
Still nothing.
"Grandpa, are you sleeping?" Trent asked confused. He was just awake. what's wrong?
Trent shook him and no response "grandpa?"
Trent got on the bed trying to see if he was pranking him but then he saw something. There was blood starting to come out of his nose.
Trent grabbed the tissues that were on the nightstand and wiped his nose.
But the bleeding wouldn't stop.
Trent ran downstairs and out to the garden "grandpa fell asleep and he won't wake up! A-and his nose is bleeding!" Trent said hoping they could help.
"What?" His mom and grandma said running upstairs out the garden into the house.
"What's wrong? He's only sleeping?" Trent asked confused.
His dad opened his mouth to speak when they heard screaming from in the house.
Trent, his father, and his sister ran inside to where the screaming came from.
Entering the room he was previously in he saw his grandma hunched over her husband crying.
His mom was sobbing on the phone "we need an ambulance! There's no pulse!"
He looked over as his sister began crying and his dad's eyes watered up but he tried to better the situation.

—
Soon everyone was at the hospital. Trent waited with his sister in the waiting room while all the adults talked to the doctor.
Soon his parents and grandma came back.
"Is he feeling better yet? I made him a get better card." Trent said holding out a card with him and his grandpa with a heart.
They all teared up but his mom came to him and squatted by him. She face him with a sorrowful look "remember when I told you some people's bodies get hurt or too tired and they pass away? And they go to a better place like in the movies?" His mom said.
Trent nodded.
"Well, today your grandpa passed away. And he's going to a better place now." His mom said choking up.
Trent furrowed his eyebrows "no he's not, he was just sleeping."
"No baby, he's gone." His grandma said rubbing Trent's head.
For nearly 1 week and a half, Trent refuse to believe his grandfather was dead. Every day he waited for him to call the phone. To say it was a joke. To walk through the door. But it never happened.
When the funeral arrived and he saw his grandpa in the casket and all of his family members crying it sank it.
He was gone.
Trent sobbed throughout the ceremony. When he got to see his grandpa one last time he put his toy train he got him and the card he made in the casket with him. He didn't want to leave. He wanted to stay by the casket and hope he'd wake up.
After the funeral for the next couple of days, Trent had nightmares, panic attacks, and anxiety attacks about the funeral and his grandpa.
He didn't do anything. He laid in bed. His mom had to force him to eat and to leave his room. All he did was sit in his room with the toy train his grandfather gave to him.
Trent hit his breaking point when one of the wheels fell off.
Trent went to his mom crying hysterically.
"Trent 9 is your lucky number. And it was his favorite number too." She said hugging him close.
Since that day Trent used the number 9 to calm down his anxiety.
When his grandma visited he noticed her smile wasn't as bright. That day he found out his grandfather died from a brain tumor that exploded in his head causing bleeding. He died instantly. He passed before Trent came into the room with the water and haunted Trent.
However, she brought the presents earl and herself were planning to give.
His sister and Trent got a handmade guitar.
End of flashback
Trent felt his eyes water as the strong emotions crashed over him. The memories flooded his mind.
He had so many questions. So many emotions Flowing through his brain as tears fell down his face.
