The Present
At 7:30am, you got ready to leave for office and start your day job, checking yourself over once more in the mirror. You were wearing a purple above the knee skirt, paired with purple sleeveless satin blouse, your signature leather corset over the blouse and a purple blazer thrown over your shoulders.
Your hair was clearly pinned up, make-up was minimal, pared with a dark maroon like lipstick.
Grabbing your bag and keys, you head down the corridor towards the elevators. The door opens and you're greeted by the attendant. "Good morning, Ms. E. Looking as lovely as always."
"Good morning to you too Joe" you cheerfully return his greeting. "How's it looking downstairs so far? I bet things buzzing already, right?"
"A mad-house as usual, Ms. E" he answers with a shake of his head. "Here we are..." Joe states when the door slowly side open. "Enjoy your day, Ms. E."
"You too Joe..." you tell him as you exit the elevator and make your way across to the opposite side of the hotel foyer. Greeting staff and guest alike as you make your way towards the elevator leading up to the office falls.
"Good morning Cindy" you greet the floor receptionist. "Any messages for me?"
"Morning Ms. E. Here they are and Mr. Evans informed that he'll be dropping in to speak with you at 10" she informs you, handing over the notes of messages.
"Thanks Cindy. Can you have the kitchen send up a pot of coffee for when he does" you instruct her and head to your office.
As it was nearing to 10am, you were hard at work behind the typewriter, busy drafting up documents when the office phone rang. It was Cindy, reminding you that Mr. Evans would be up soon and would the coffee.
Thanking her, you stop with your work and tidy up a bit before your meeting with Stevie. The bellhop soon arrives with the coffee and you instruct him to place it on the cabinet.
Not long after the bellhop had left, there was a knock at the door. "Come inside, Stevie!" you call out.
The door then opens and in walks your boss and good friend, Stevie with a broad smile on his face. "Hey, Y/N/N. How did you know it was me?" he chuckles out as he enters.
"Well, you said that you would be here at 10 and you're the only one that comes up to my office without Cindy calling in first" you smirkingly answer. "There's coffee on the counter, help yourself while I quickly put these files away."
After pouring yourself cup of coffee, you head for your desk. "So, what can I do for you today Boss?
"How are things on the business front going, Y/N/N?" Stevie asks you after taking a sip from his coffee.
"Everything's looking good so far, just a few more files to go through then I'll have everything in order for the yearly board meeting" you inform him.
"That's great news, Y/N/N" Stevie exhales a breath of relief. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous about whether the board will be happy the figures."
"Don't worry Stevie. I'm good at what I do and you know I would immediately inform you if the M.J was in any trouble" you reassure him.
With a calmer look upon himself, Stevie then smiles at you. "I know, Y/N/N and that's why I consider you not only be one of my best employees but a close friend too."
"You ready for tonight?" Stevie then asks.
"Yeah, everything is set to go" you answer him. "Am I working the floor tonight?"
"Yes. But not tomorrow night, there's a clubbing event after the show at 10pm" Stevie informs you.
Tilting your head in thought, you respond smile of interest. "Sounds like fun. Maybe I'll go check it out."
"Always the party-girl" Stevie chuckles, shaking his at you. "Anyway...let me leave you to get back to your work and I'll see you tonight at the show."
"Enjoy the rest of your day and see you tonight Boss-" you tell him as he heads for the door to leave.
As Stevie makes his way towards the elevator, thoughts of whether he was doing the right thing or not in not informing Y/N about HIS presence this week.
Unfortunately, Stevie had been ordered not to let any of the employees know about HIM being there. HE wanted to watch them from the side-lines and see how they were doing their jobs and their interactions with the guest.
HE of course would be able to pull it off as the L.A based staff had yet to have met or seen HIM because HE had left everything involving in running the M.J to you to handle.
HE had given Stevie a year to prove that he was capable of running the hotel on his own. Now the time had come to for Stevie to show that proof in forms of income figures. That was why HE was here, to see whether Stevie had failed or succeeded.
Stevie knew that have succeeded and the person that was behind him in helping to achieve that was, Y/N, his closest friend and now he to lie to her.
This just doesn't feel right... Stevie thinks to himself. Something big is going to happen and he could feel it.
Later That Night
You were backstage in the dressing-room, getting yourself ready for your performance. You were wearing a low-cut, long-sleeved emerald-green lace dress, a long slit running up mid-thigh and your leather corset, paired with black dancing high-heel shoes.
Your hair loose and framed around your face, classic jewellery to match the look and a more dramatic make-up look to match the colour of your dress.
Making your way onto the stage, you flush the band a smile as you take the steps down to the dance floor.
The light begins to dim as you take your position, your backup singers further behind you. Once the beat starts, the spot-light then falls onto you as you start to sing, Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen.
I threw a wish in the well
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you, as it fell
And now you're in my way
You smile seductively to the crowd as you work the crowd with your charm.
I'd trade my soul for a wish
Pennie and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this
But now you're in my way
Twirling and dancing across the floor to the music, you continue to sing as you go up to table and bend down to one of the male guests and begin singing to him as you act flustered.
Hey, I just met you
And this crazy
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
Handing him a card with the next night's event details on, you make a 'call me' sign with your hand against your face. Dancing back to the floor, you continue to dance and sing as you move from table to another.
The night continues as you do a few more sets. Once the performance was over, the MC announces that the dance floor was open and that you'd be available to dance with anyone after a 5minute break.
After having freshened up a bit and charged on some snacks, you make your way back to the dance floor to mingle with the guests.
While working the floor, mingling and dancing with guests, you had the feeling of being intensively watched. You thought your feelings to be silly because of course with being the night's entertainment, it was a guarantee that you would be watched.
Your eyes sharply roam the room as you were dancing, trying to figure out who it could be and that's when your eyes landed onto the bar area.
It was HIM... He was the one watching me! You realise then. You had thought you were imaging things earlier when your eyes had made contact with his.
He was just sitting there at the bar, watching you intensively with a cigarette in his hand. He was quite the handsome man it seemed from what you see from your position. Clean shaven, hair sleeked back, wearing what seemed to a grey suit. He looked to be between the age of forty to fifty years old. Just my type... you think to yourself.
Your time having to work the floor was finally up, so you made your leave from the dance floor and headed backstage to collect your things and head for your apartment. Not in the mood to being stopped by a guest or having to change your clothes, you decide to take the service elevator along with the bellhop.
HE was sitting at the bar, nursing a glass of whiskey along with a cigarette when the nightly show began, having been told that it was quite entertaining and something different to be seen. I'll be the judge of that though. HE thought to himself.
The lights had slowly started to dim then as a short and very curvaceous woman, dressed in a green dress, with what seemed to be orange coloured hair made her way down the stage and onto the dance floor.
This is something different from the usual shows I've seen. HE confusingly yet intriguingly thinks to himself.
Once the music begins to play and the spot-light falls directly onto her and she began to sing, HE was completely blown away by what he was witnessing. HE soon found himself enchanted more and more by her as he watched performance through the night.
What surprised HIM even more was that after the performance the woman began to mingle and dance with the guests.
As HE watched her dancing about with the guest, he notices her eyes scanning the room, when suddenly their eyes connect and a bemused smile crosses her face. Damn! She must have noticed me watching her every move. He anxiously thinks to himself.
After an hour amongst the crowd, she disappears to backstage, not to been seen again for the rest of the night.
HE finds himself quite disappointed at the woman leaving. She was quite a looker and he was determined to get to know her better on a personal level.
You were lying in bed, not being able to sleep as thoughts of HIM ran through your mind. You were usually exhausted after doing a double and would immediately fall asleep due to it, but tonight it wasn't happening.
There was something about the handsome stranger at the bar that intrigued you. You weren't sure what it was though, but you hoped to get to see him again.
