There are some minor spoilers to the book of Yangchen in the fanfic.
So, a new book about Yangchen got released. In the book it was mentioned she knew she was the Avatar since she was eleven years old. She was an air nomad, that means Aang wasn't even the youngest air avatar when they told him he's the avatar! The monks probably knew that, she wasn't from a different nation, she was the last air Avatar. So, I decided to write a fanfic about the discussion of the elders if they should tell Aang he's the Avatar.
Gyatso, Pasang and Tashi are canonical names, I chose the names Rabten and Kelden randomly.
English isn't my native language, so forgive me for any minor mistakes.
Disclaimer: The Avatar universe belongs to Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and Nickelodeon. I don't own anything. Some of sentences was said in the tv series in the flashbacks, it's made sense the elders will say them in their discussion about Aang.
"We need to tell him. There is a danger upon us." Monk Pasang said to the other elders.
"Do you think is ready?" Monk Kelden, the fat one, asked them.
"No, we are not telling him, Aang needs to have freedom and fun. He cannot take this burden yet." Monk Gyatso stated, he was Aang's guardian after all.
"He has duties as the Avatar, it's time he'll find out about them!" Monk Tashi called.
"I don't think we have another option; the fire nation will attack us eventually." Monk Rabten, the one with the brown beard, mentioned.
"No, Aang deserves to grow up as a normal boy." Gyatso told the others.
"We need the Avatar in our side when the fire nation will come, we have no choice but tell him." Pasang sighed.
"And they'll come. They already attack the Earth Kingdom, it's only a time until we'll be their next target." Rabten added.
"And they'll look for Aang, he is the real target, he is the Avatar, he needs to know so he could protect himself and prepare himself for the battle." Kelden mentioned.
"No, he is only twelve! He can't take that responsibility yet, there is a reason why the Avatar finds out about his identity when he only sixteen." Gyatso objected.
"We need to consider what's best for the world." Tashi argued.
"It's not a precedent, Yangchen found out she was the Avatar when she was eleven, he is older than her by now." Kelden reminded them.
"She was haunted by the voices of her past Avatars, it's not like they could hide her identity from her." Rabten noted.
"Yes, Yangchen figured this out her own, telling Aang is not the same and it would be a bad idea, he needs to find out about this when he'll be sixteen." Gyatso said.
"Aang has his tattoos, if he was ready to get his tattoos, he is ready to find out he is the Avatar, he is already a master." Tashi declared.
"Yes, Yangchen didn't have her arrows when she finds out she's the avatar, and Aang got his arrows because he deserves them, so no one can say it's because he is the Avatar, but he needs to his destiny. We need him, he needs to start his real training." Kelden stated.
"I'm his guardian, I'm telling you it's not a good idea, he is not ready for this, please listen to me." Gyatso appealed them.
"We don't have a choice!" Tashi called.
"Yes, we have to tell him." kelden nodded.
"It is time for him to know." Rabten added.
"So, it's decided, we're going to tell him he is the Avatar." Pasang announced, Gyatso sighed and shook his head but he knew he can't do something to change their opinion and that a danger is upon them.
Author's note: I know it's not impressive, I just realised the monks probably mentioned Yangchen in their conversation and I decided to write it.
