Naruto knows better.

But maybe just this once it will be different.

Naruto ran zig-zag across the streets of Konoha, nimbly avoiding the crowds of villagers on his way to the market. He needs to get groceries before it got too late in the day.

After dashing down the street he arrived at the market and quickly walked to the Fruit stand but before he could decide on anything a voice cuts through,

"Scram kid, you're scaring away my paying customers"

Naruto jerked his head up at the comment and made eye contact with the shopkeeper.

"I have money," Naruto said, diverting his eyes.

"Is that so?" The shopkeeper eyed him strangely. "How much? These oranges aren't cheap, you know."

Naruto placed all of his yen on the counter and began to count, "Eight hundred and three yen" he said.

"It's not enough for any of the fruits on display, but you have just the right amount of yen for the fruits that just came in" The corner of the shopkeeper's lips turned upwards.

The shopkeeper dropped Naruto's yen safely into his pocket before walking to the back of the store. He returned to the counter a minute later with a brown paper bag.

"Here's your order, now run along you're holding up the line."

Naruto was skeptical of the bag but couldn't get a word in, owing to the fact that the people behind him in line were getting more and more agitated.

Skeptical of the contents of the bag, Naruto, not minutes after making it to his apartment opened It.

"Oh" Naruto mumbled, deflated. The bag was filled with rotten fruit.

Naruto knew better than to eat expired food, the last time he had eaten some it made him sick. His stomach growled and he debated eating it anyway. He kept tossing that idea around in his mind before he decided he would just go back out and try to find something else to eat.

When Naruto opened his front door he was immediately greeted by a storm. Hesitating only briefly before rushing out into the rain. Only when he was halfway to the market did he realize that it would be closed, not to mention that he used the last of his allowance earlier.

His plan to go to the market derailed, he wandered around the village and glanced into different shops that he'd never be allowed in. Subconsciously he followed the smell of ramen.

Before he realized it, he was standing in front of Ichiraku's Ramen stand. He peeped through the curtains and saw a man, who he presumed to be the owner, preparing food. Naruto, having stood still for a bit too long attracted the attention of the storeowner who then invited him inside.

Naruto hesitated knowing he generally wasn't allowed in restaurants but settled to go anyway.

"What's your name?"

"Naruto" He replied, before asking "what's yours?"

"Teuchi" he said, before placing a bowl of Miso Pork ramen in front of Naruto

Naruto's eyes widened, he'd Never had so much food! His stomach growled at the sight of it, but before he dug into his food a sudden feeling of anxiousness overcame him.

"I don't have any money," naruto puts his chopsticks down.

"We can work out how you'll pay later" Teuchi said "why were you out by yourself? In the rain?"

Naruto pursed his lips " I didn't have anything to eat, because the food I bought earlier was rotten".

"Rotten?" Teuchi asked

"Yeah?" Naruto was confused, why did Teuchi care? " I couldn't eat it because it would make me sick again."

Teuchi had a disgruntled look on his face which made Naruto wonder if he had said something wrong. Just before naruto excused himself Teuchi said

"That's not right to treat a child that way"

Naruto looked at Teuchi In disbelief.

"Instead of forcing yourself to eat that rotten garbage you can come and eat here, It's on the house!" Teuchi said

Naruto's eyes lit up with joy.
