JJ opened her eyes, she blinked a few times, so her eyes could adjust to the light. Her vision remained blurry, and she did not know where she was. JJ felt like something was pushing on her chest as she had a hard time breathing.
"What's going on," whispered JJ.
JJ noticed that there was something on her face and she took it off.
"Agent Jareau, you're showing symptoms of post-immersion syndrome. Also known as dry drowning," said the paramedic.
The paramedic put the oxygen mask back on.
"It means there is water in your lungs, making it hard for you to breath. You passed out due to a lack of oxygen," said the paramedic.
"I can't breathe," whispered JJ.
"Agent Jareau, I need you to stay calm," said the paramedic.
JJ started coughing, which only made it harder for her to breath.
"JJ, look at me," said Hotch as he grabbed her hand.
JJ turned her head towards him. The weight on her chest had increased and had now compromised her ability to speak.
"I have to sedate her, she is to tense," said the paramedic.
When JJ saw the needle, her eyes widened, and her heartbeat rose. She tried to fight the parametric of with all the strength she had left, which only resulted in more coughing, making it almost impossible for her to breath.
"She's choking," said the parametric.
"JJ, look at me," said Hotch to calm her down.
The look of pure terror in her eyes was something he wouldn't be able to forget. Hotch reluctantly held JJ down, so the parametric could sedate her and it took only a few seconds before she went out.
When Hotch entered the waiting room the rest of the team had already arrived. They were looking at him full of anticipation.
"How is she," said Rossi.
"The doctors are examining her now," said Hotch.
Hotch sat down with the rest of his team, to wait for an update.
"Why is it taking so long," said Garcia.
It was at that exact moment that a doctor entered the waiting room.
"Are you all here for agent Jareau," said the doctor.
The team nodded.
"Agent Jareau was suffering from post-immersion syndrome. We did a chest x-ray and had her evaluated by a pulmonary specialist, who removed the water out of her lungs. Luckily the only thing she sustained from this is bacterial pneumoni," said the doctor.
"What about her other injuries," said Morgan.
"Agent Jareau had quite a few cuts and bruises, but luckily nothing to serious. Most of her wounds will heal within the next few weeks," said the doctor.
The first thing JJ saw when she opened her eyes was her husband, who was laying in a hospital bed next to her. Tears were streaming down her face, but this time they were tears of happiness. JJ thought her husband was killed.
"I'm so sorry for everything," said Will.
JJ tried to speak, but both her chest and throat were too sore. She could see the tears in her husbands' eyes.
"I love you Jennifer Jareau," said Will.
JJ nodded with a smile as she loved him too.
A little later the team entered the room and they had brought a little visitor, Henry.
"Mommy," said Henry as he ran over to her bed.
Reid picked up the little boy, putting him on the bed.
"Be careful, okay," said Reid.
Henry nodded before giving his mother a hug.
"Feeling any better," said Emily.
JJ nodded, in this moment she had everything she needed. She was surrounded by the people she loved most. This was the first time in months that JJ had felt safe. JJ turned to Hotch; she seemingly knew exactly what she wanted to ask.
"Don't worry, he won't hurt you again. I made sure of that," said Hotch.
