JJ entered the interrogation room to interview Nova's girlfriend. Caitlin had a darker skin; long curls and her eyes were bloodshot.
"I'm Jennifer Jareau with the FBI, I'm here to ask you some questions," said JJ.
Caitlin nodded.
"How long have you known Nova," said JJ.
"A few years, we met in collage and started dating shortly after," said Caitlin.
"Did the two of you live together?" said JJ.
Caitlin nodded.
"What were you doing when you received the phone call?" said JJ.
"I was on my way home, I was only 5 minutes out," said Caitlin as a tear ran down her face.
"There is nothing you could've done to prevent this, for all we know he would've killed you too," said JJ.
"At least we'd still be together," said Caitlin.
The room turned quiet as JJ did not know how to respond.
"Who called you?" said JJ.
"Nova," said Caitlin.
"Was she on the other end of the phone?" said JJ.
Caitlin nodded.
"She told me to hurry," said Caitlin as the tears were streaming down her face.
"What happened next," said JJ.
"I could hear them fighting in the background and after a few minutes a man came to the phone," said Caitlin.
"What did he say," said JJ.
"He told me that I was already too late, before hanging up the phone," said Caitlin.
JJ nodded.
"I'm so sorry," said JJ.
"I called 911 right after. I waited outside for them to arrive as I didn't dare to go inside," said Caitlin.
Caitlin took a deep breath.
"Maybe she'd still be here if I went inside," said Caitlin.
JJ shook her head.
"You did the right thing," said JJ with a smile.
When JJ entered the conference room Hotch was already inside and she explained to him what Caitlin had told her. The two stories matched up perfectly, confirming that they were dealing with one unsub. JJ could see in Hotch's eyes that this wasn't easy on him as this case had so many similarities with what had happened with Foyet.
A little later the team had regrouped at the police station, to share the information they had gathered and to work on the profile. However, they were interrupted when the sheriff stormed into the room.
"A hiker found a body alongside the trail, and they just confirmed that it is Abigail's," said the sheriff.
"Who received the phone call," said Morgan.
"No one did," said the sheriff.
"The unsub must have known that we were on to him," said Rossi.
Emily nodded.
"It's probably the same reason he decided not to dump her body at the abduction sight," said Emily.
"Alright, let's have a look at the crime scene ourselves," said Hotch.
When they arrived at the crime scene they were met with a detective. The trail they were on was narrow and secluded.
"How popular is this hiking trail anyways," said Emily.
"I think you already know your answer," said the detective.
Emily nodded.
"So, our unsub must be a local," said Emily.
Abigail washed ashore at the stream and her body was also covered in cuts and bruises.
"Abigail most likely died of drowning," said the detective.
JJ was reminded of how the man grabbed her by the chin, tilting her head back. The man stared pouring water over her face. JJ tried her best to hold her breath, but when she could no longer control her impulse, she took a breath, and she could feel that some of the water had made its way into her lungs. JJ took a few deep breaths as she felt like something was pushing on her chest. She was startled as a hand was placed on her shoulder.
"JJ, it's me. Are you okay?" said Reid.
JJ gave him a smile before nodding.
"Yes, I'm fine," said JJ.
The sheriff interrupted Reid before he could say anything else.
"There has been another abduction," said the sheriff.
The members of the team sighed in defeat as another life was on the line.
"Any witnesses," said Hotch.
The sheriff nodded.
"The brother and a passerby," said the sheriff.
"Reid and Rossi can talk to the brother, JJ and Prentiss can talk to the passerby. Morgan and I will go to the abduction sight," said Hotch.
"There is one more thing you should know. They both claim she got into a dark blue company van. Sadly, neither one of them knew what company," said the sheriff.
Hotch nodded.
"I'll have out technical analyst look into that," said Hotch.
Reid and Rossi had made their way over to the brother's house. He was already at the door when they drove up the driveway.
"I'm agent Rossi and this is Dr. Reid," said Rossi as he gave the brother a hand.
"Thomas, I'm Maisy's brother, but I assume you already knew that," said Thomas.
Both agents nodded.
"Can we come in," said Reid.
Thomas nodded before stepping aside.
"What were you and Maisy doing before she was abducted," said Reid.
"We had just bought some furniture for Maisy's new apartment. I was loading the last few boxes on to my truck while Maisy went to put back the cart," said Thomas.
"You told the police you noticed a dark blue company van. Why did it stand out?" said Rossi.
Thomas took a second to think.
"We had gotten to the store quite early in the morning and that blue van was the only other vehicle in the parking lot," said Thomas.
"Are you sure there were no other vehicles," said Reid.
Thomas nodded.
"Did you see anyone at the parking lot," said Reid.
Thomas shook his head.
"No, it was just me and Maisy," said Thomas.
Rossi nodded before getting up.
"Thank you, I think we have enough information," said Rossi.
"Please find my sister," begged Thomas.
Reid gave him a smile.
"We'll do everything we can to bring her back," said Reid.
Once the two agents were back outside, they called Garcia.
"How are you doing on that blue company van," said Rossi.
"It's like looking for a needle in a needle stack," said Garcia.
"Look for freelancers with a criminal record that were off from work this morning. Our unsub owns that van," said Reid.
"I'll get back to you on that," said Garcia before hanging up the phone.
Hotch and Morgan arrived at the abduction sight, but there was literally nothing there. They scanned through the multiple angles of security footage, but there was nothing.
"It can hardly be a coincidence that our unsub isn't on any of the camaras," said Morgan.
Morgan grabbed his phone out of his pocket.
"Hey baby girl," said Morgan.
"Have you found anything yet," said Hotch before Garcia had a chance to answer.
"Reid already gave me some information to narrow down my search, but I'm still coming up empathy," said Garcia.
"Look local," said Hotch.
"I already am, sir," said Garcia.
"Our unsub might have a connection to one of the stores near the parking lot Maisy was taken from," said Morgan.
"Give me a minute," said Garcia.
The two agents could hear Garcia type at the other end of the phone.
"I might have found your unsub," said Garcia.
"Who is it," said Morgan.
"Oliver Harlington," said Garcia
Both Hotch's and Morgan's eyes widened.
"Isn't that the passerby?" said Morgan.
Hotch nodded.
"Yes, and I send JJ and Prentiss to his house," said Hotch.
