Rolling Thunder
Chapter Four
Admiral Nelson had ended the meeting with everyone to leave his office with only Lee Crane to be staying to let him know that he was going home to come back into the morning.
Nelson looked up at his face had looked exhausted. "And I don't blame you, Lee. I plan on doing to same with going back to the house with Syrian to be back tonight after meeting with her Russian friends in San Francisco." he will say about his wife.
"Has the Russian embassy decided to let the team go back to the Kremlin in order to finish up their work?" Lee asked knowing how important it is to have your wife and her team head back with their work in the labs.
"They haven't decided Lee. Even though the embassy is thinking positively that it's going to happen soon in spite of late the weather changes happening on the West coast. Some of the scientists think it might be another shift in the Earth's axis." he alluded to the information that wasn't given earlier in the meeting.
"Whatever it might be I just hope to god that it's not as bad as they think Harriman?" Crane cried out standing up from his chair to stretch before leaving for his beach house and his wife Lisa. While the three children are spending time with his ex-wife Commander Rose Marie Cerley Baskins.
And in the meantime, her husband a Marine was in Ukraine on the outskirts running special Maneuvers with his team. Colonel Robert Baskins hated the idea of heading for Ukraine along with the fact of leaving her with the three kids to take care of along with the nanny while she was working at the Institute as well.
BEACH HOUSE
Lisa had been on the phone with her sister living in San Francisco. Their area had been hit with a 2-point 1 quake in the lower valley to scare everyone. Allison had called her sister Lisa at the beach house on Institute property on whether or not there had been strange weather in the area.
Sitting outside in the back of the beach house while waiting for her husband to arrive back from a meeting. "Not that I have noticed Allison. However maybe my husband Lee might be able to enlighten me with these facts?" she pointed out with her comment.
"Do me a favor Lisa call me at some point about it if possible. But in the meantime I will be watching the news in case of further trouble?" she scratched her dark brown hair with her left hand.
"Certainly I will Allison. But for now, my husband is finally home from that meaning regard to the Rolling Thunder will be underway soon," she said calmly...
"Okay, and good night Lisa." she will hang up the connection to the phone to greet her husband parking his red Chevy in the back lot of the garage. He was able to come in the back entrance needing to stop off at the kitchen needing something to drink.
Lisa moved into the kitchen to say the following. "How did it go with the meeting?" she will bend up to kiss his dry, chapped lips.
"It went well, Lisa. Otherwise, I made notes as with Captain Morrison on whether or not there is anything going on with the weather. Are you making dinner since the kids are with Rose Marie?" he asked calmly with a loud yawn.
"Actually I was thinking of calling for Chinese food Lee since you're about ready to drop with exhaustion. Is this alright with you, baby?" she cried out waiting for his answer.
"Of course! But I need to call a friend at the observatory to find out whether there had been any sightings of Solar Flares coming from the sun. Doctor Bernstein knows the answers all of the time at the Observatory. Hopefully, he will have the answers for me." he paused to kiss Lisa before telling her to order the food.
She watches him slowly walk away to the library to call the professor. While she went to work to call the China Ling Chinese restaurant not too far away from the beach house.
MOMENTS LATER INSIDE OF THE LIBRARY.
Doctor Albert Bernstein age 67 years old had been working at the Montclair observatory not too far from the Nelson Institute. He's been getting some strange effects on his instruments in his office. He's not been able to figure it out except for the fact that the location is coming from the South Pacific.
Rubbing the back of his neck with his hand with removing his bifocals with the other hand. When all of a sudden his office phone was ringing as he takes a look at the name on the screen.
Doctor Bernstein smiles as if it's an old friend of his from when he was Captain of the Seaview until he decided to take on the position of running the Institute.
"Hey, Lee how are you doing these days?" he will ask him with the emotion of the question.
"Hanging in there Doctor Bernstein. The reason I am calling is to find out what is going on with the strange weather effects for this region?" Lee croaks out with his response turning his head slightly.
"I have noticed it Lee with my instruments. Otherwise, I can tell you that the coordinates are somewhere in the South Pacific," he tells him over the phone.
"If this is the case Doctor, The institute has two subs in the South Pacific now with the third to be heading out in a few days for testing. Do you have any idea what might be causing it like solar flares or a shift in the faultlines?"
Coughing slightly..." I don't have a clue right now Lee. But I can give you the coordinates to let Admiral Nelson know and just go from there. Do you have a pen to write down the coordinates?" he asked grabbing the paper that was sitting on the table.
"Give me a moment so that I can grab a piece of paper and a pen. Admiral Nelson had been talking about the effects as with myself and the new Captain of the Rolling Thunder," he responded getting up to head for the desk drawer. "Okay, let me have the coordinates," he says calmly listening to the doctor over the phone giving him the coordinates. "Thank you for your help Doctor Bernstein." he will hang up the phone to speak with Lisa.
