The day was as typical as the rest. Isaac woke up, did his chores and sped off to his last day of school for the term. The Christmas break, while not his most liked anymore, would prove to be a good rest period from school. A good solid 24 days he could go low to no contact with his friends at school, Pure bliss from the constant annoyance that was their incessant need to bring up GGO and question his endlessly on why he no longer plays.
Further solace was found out a week prior from this day when Betty received an invitation to the Festive season baking fair that was being held in Beijing this year. Thankfully it had not taken much persuasion to get his aunt to agree to leave him unattended for the two weeks this festival spanned. The twelve year old was quite elated that he would not have to endure any of her baking for such a blissful while.
The school day ran shorter due to school closing, the point of coming in on this day at all was to get a report card and any assignments that needed to be done over the holidays. Of course there were also the schedules for make-up classes being handed out today. Luck truly seemed to favor Isaac, no additional assignments needed to boost his marks to an acceptable pass nor did he need make-up classes. Isaac spent the day zoning out his classmates, not caring if he was rude to them.
After the mandatory four hours of school, the students all made their ways home. Some elated, others not so much. None of this mattered to Isaac, the pre-teen rushed to the bicycle shed to avoid needing to engage in conversation with Karl and Timmy who were attempting to hound him down. Escape was guaranteed once he got onto his orange bike and rode on home.
The journey reached its end when Isaac dismounted his Bike by a three story building, this building held a bakery called Birdy Bread on its ground floor and residences on the first and second floors. Betty had always insisted on having the exterior walls painted sunshine yellow, despite both Isaac and his fathers protests on the matter.
Normally Isaac would enter through the bakery's main entrance, but since he rode his bike to school he opted to use the back entrance nearest the bike shed for the building.
"Aunt Betty, I'm back from school!" Isaac let out into the bakeries kitchen where his aunt was baking some final orders before he ascended the staircase to his home.
The place was littered with piles of Betty's clothing both washed and unwashed, she clearly was nervous on what to pack before leaving tomorrow.
After some pondering Isaac resigned to the option that would cause the least drama and promptly sorted all the clothing into two piles, folding all that was clean and could be taken with and placing all that was dirty in the laundry basket to be washed. Once he finished a silent prayer was sent to the heavens that he had not come across any of his aunts unmentionables, especially those that he found questionable.
The rest of the day passed quietly, Isaac spent his time fiddling with one of his bizarrely complex projects since he did not need to go work for Uncle Ball, the festive season not being one where fish are in such high demand that he requires help, and no tanks required fixing yet.
The next morning Isaac awoke to the frantic sounds of this aunt going over her last minute preparations. Isaac calmly got ready for the day through all the chaos. After a few hours Betty was finally ready to depart to the station for her train to Beijing. "Alright Isaac, looks like I am off. Remember to keep the store locked as well as all the doors even if you are home all day. Don't answer the door to strangers, we are not expecting any packages. Don't stay up late, don't wander out at night and if you have friends over, no loud music and no house parties. I'll be back after the 27th." Betty said while making sure she had her ticket, wallet and phone in her carry on. "Got it Aunt Betty, have a safe train ride and enjoy the fair." Isaac replied a bit impatient for her to leave. With her last checks done Betty said her final goodbyes and left.
An hour later Isaacs phone buzzed alive with a nex text. He unlocked it and opened the screen and clicked on the logo for a strange app. He then selected the person that massaged him, their icon was some fanart for Voltron. He opened the chat:
-Yo, Specter. Job just came in, that's your ally. You biting?
Sure thing Al, be there in a few….-
-Sweet, use the front way. Bring you gear :P
With that he excited the app, and began changing. Isaac was brimming with excitement, Al always got the best jobs for him. Though he did not want to be seen going there so he donned a black hoodie with some cyan accents, non descrip sweat pants and traded his signature flip flops for some sneakers. He even changed his orange phone cover for his special techno one. After that he grabbed a backpack and headed out.
It took awhile but he finally reached a dodgy arcade near the bad side of town, called Serpents Wrath. Even outside you could hear the electro music blaring from inside, inside Isaac walked past teens in their seventeens while making his way to the back rooms. He reached a door that had a keypad and a neon light fixture of a spider's web. He punched in his code and walked into the room.
There were laptop terminals everywhere, and one wall was covered in monitors. The rest had sound proofing. "Al? Al, you here?" Isaac called out. A woman about eighteen turned at this, the others in the room had their noses in their laptops working on their respective jobs. The Woman was dressed in clothes suitable for a rave, she approached Isaac. "Sup Spec, Got a job for ya. Some corpo's wanna test their fancy security system. Real cocky 'bout it, like proud lil' parents. Care to smash all their hopes? It a hella score." she said very casual about asking a 12 year old to hack into a Multi-million USD corporation. "I don't mind at all, let's hope it takes me more than half an hour this time 'round." Isaac said while setting up his gear. "Geez, It's a shame specter won't touch nothing illegal, we'd be hella rich by now if he did." One of the figures in the room spoke, having done what they were busy with. "Heh, maybe once he's older. Kids gonna be one to watch if anything. Though it's nice he helps with the legal side of business, and when it's for a good cause." Al said back, making banter while Isaac sets up before she can hand him his clients details.
Isaac set to work, though was disappointed when he got into the supposed High end security system after only 15 minutes. They clearly needed to get their stuff sorted. He glanced around trying to gauge if there would be anything more for him here. Part of him did want to spread his wings into the darker side of things, Hacking peoples accounts for blackmail dirt and the such. Heck maybe see if he can find where his dad was, but he knew that if this place was busted and they discovered that he participated in the illegal work his dad would be very disappointed. And Isaac did not need the police report either. Isaac decided to go play some arcade games while waiting for Alakazam to finish with the client and find him more work. "Yo Al, there is this stupid KA again asking us to hack someones location again." "Really? Same A. Coleman again?" "Yeap. Same story again, not like we are gonna find em. Way better than the best of the dark team." The conversation between Al and the other hacker was barely Audible to Isaac as he left to set more impossible high scores.
