Félix Lopez stepped out of his house. He had only moved to the Encanto a few months ago. He still wasn't used to the storm. Félix's old town was known for its sunny days, and the citizens could usually count the number of rainy days they had a year on a single hand. Félix loved rainy days, but it was a little draining when rain was the only weather they ever had.
Félix and his father had moved here after the death of Félix's mother, Camila. Adjusting to the new lifestyle was challenging, yet there was one bright spot. The town had a generously sized library. Félix quickly got a job there.
"Hola, Félix," a high-pitched voice called. Félix rolled his eyes, turning around to see Sara. She had curly, shoulder-length black hair. She had bright green eyes. She was wearing a figure-hugging crimson red dress. "How are you doing?"
Sara was undeniably a beautiful woman. However, she wasn't Félix's type. He wondered why Sara was always after him. She was catnip to most of the men in the Encanto. "I'm doing fine, Sara," Félix said. "Are you?"
"Not well," Sara said with an over-dramatic sigh.
"What's wrong?" Félix asked.
"All of my friends are getting married," Sara said. "Olivia just got engaged to Thiago. I'm going to be a spinster. All of the good men are going to be married off soon. I'm going going to be stuck with their little brothers."
"You won't have a hard time finding a husband," Félix promised.
"I don't want just any husband," Sara sighed. "I want you."
"Well, I'm not on the table," Félix responded.
"Why not?" Sara asked. She batted her long eyelashes at him. "I don't see a Madam Félix Lopez. I don't see you courting anyone. You and I are the most beautiful people in town. Everyone is expecting us to shack up."
"Not interested," Félix said. He then walked to the library.
"Mark my words; you will be mine one day," Sara laughed.
Félix went straight home after his shift. His father sat in the living room. He was an inventor who worked out of their house. "I brought you a book, papá," Félix announced. "I think you'll like this one."
"Thank you," Señor Lopez said. He took the book from his son's hands. "I think we should talk. I'm getting up there in years. I don't want to leave to be with your mother and leave you alone. I want you to have a marriage for love, like your mother and I had, but I want to see you happy."
"I'm just waiting for the right person," Félix said.
"I'm going to an inventor's convention for a few days," Señor Lopez said. "Do you want anything?"
"No, thank you," Félix responded.
"Take care," Señor Lopez said. "I love you, my only son."
"I love you too, papá," Félix said. With that, the older man collected his bags. He mounted his horse, Papo, and road off.
