Introduction:

This adventure features a different perspective during the events of Mass Effect 3. While Commander Shepard and the crew are uniting the galaxy against the Reaper forces there are others that are holding the line against the evil. This story revolves around the Special Forces, the characters that the player plays in the multiplayer. The protagonist of this story is a N7 demolisher class engineer operative, Captain Jessie Frost. Admiral Hackett makes the decision to create a galaxy wide force titled Special Forces to help defend citizens and repel enemy attacks. Hackett chooses Frost to be at the head of this force due to her experience being an N7 and her background in leading an emergency response team in C-Sec. While Shepard and the Normandy crew are doing the impossible up above, will it be enough is the question. This is the tale of a mercilees bloody war told from another N7 operatives point of view. Chapter I - Coffee and Cigarettes

Current Location: N7 HQ

The coffee maker started its brew and little drops of coffee began to drip into the pot. I looked up towards the holographic screen in the middle of the break room as I pulled out a cigarette. There was a news report playing from the Alliance News Network. " The Alliance reports an estimate of 3 million that have suffered casualties. This is just day 1 of this reaper attack. God help us all". I took a deep drag from my smoke "fucking 3 million" I said to myself. I don't even want to ponder on how many were injured and this is just the end of the first day. The coffee and last puff from the cigarette was just what I needed to get my mind straight on whatever hell awaited me. There was a vibration on my forearm, an urgent notification blinked from my omni-tool. It was a message from general Greene urging me to get to the comm room for an important briefing. Briefings mean I'm about to be put on a mission and the message came straight from the general so there was no delaying this. Wishing I could have another smoke I sat the cup of joe down and exited the breakroom.

Chapter II - Palm Trees and Dark Skies

The break room doors closed behind me and all I could see were panicked faces. Soldiers, analysts, workers it didn't matter they all had one thing in common and it was fear and uncertainty. Voices surrounded me while making my way down the long hallway "this is it isn't it? We are all heading into extinction." I heard a soldier ask his companion. Dread is something I know will be seen across the entire galaxy, damn these reapers to the darkest place in hell. I noticed a familiar face as I was getting close to the comm room. It was Darius, an exceptional soldier codenamed "destroyer" for his prototype T5-V battlesuit that features a mounted shoulder cannon. Darius was looking out a window, the view of palm trees and a dark sky met my gaze out the window. "Darius! It's been a few weeks since I saw you around" I said standing next to him. "Hey captain, yes you are correct. I was out on an assignment dealing with Batarian assholes threatening a space port." Darius said annoyingly. "Damn Batarians. They just don't learn." I replied, crossing my arms looking back out into the night view. Darius snickered and let out a small breath. "I just got back today. Wish it could be under better circumstances though. Looking up at this sky really makes you think." he said, turning towards me. "Will there even be a sky tomorrow?" Darius asked as he looked down at the floor with that familiar sense of dread. "Darius I walked past many people with that look you have right now. Things seem damning now, I know but you have to hold onto that strong will that got you to N7 now more than ever." he looked back up to me, less dreadful this time. "I've got a meeting with the general Darius. Hang tough you hear me?" I said to him with my hand on his shoulder. Darius gave a salute and I was now steps away from the comm room.

Chapter III - The Mission

I stood right outside the comm room taking a deep breath as I had no idea what mission I was going to be tasked with. I tapped the interface on my omni-tool for the door to open and saw the general talking with an intel agent. The general looked like shit, dry blood covering his tactical chest rig and grime around his eyes. "General sir." I saluted as he looked at me then quickly back to the agent. "Dismissed agent. I have urgent information for the captain." Greene said and the agent gave a nod then quickly made his way out the room. "Captain Frost there is big news awaiting you in that next door. I have Admiral Hackett on call waiting to talk to you directly". Greene said very calmly, as he does with everything he says. I did not know how to keep myself composed. Hackett is known as a legend in the Alliance, being the top official of the Alliance Navy It is an honor to speak with him directly. "I'll be waiting right here Frost." Greene said and I made my way through the vid call door. There was a panel connected to the hologram interface and there was a flashing green light indicating a call was on standby. I activated my omni-tool and after a deep breath I initiated the connection with the panel. In the flash of an eye the admiral was standing digitized over the hologram. "Admiral sir, it is a pleasure." I said saluting. "At ease captain. How are you feeling?" the admiral asked. "A lot of soldiers here are questioning if we have what it takes to repel the reapers sir. I don't think that way, we can't question, we have to fight." I said with the most confidence I've had since the reapers attacked. "I love to hear that Frost and that is exactly why I have chosen you." Hackett said and I was the most confused I had ever been. "Chose me sir?" I asked and the confusion was very evident in my voice. The admiral started to look over a datapad he had been holding. "I have given the greenlight on a special task force that repels enemy forces and keeps civilians protected. This task force is being codenamed Special Forces and is a galaxy wide group effort." my head started to spin hearing Hackett explain this to me. "I need someone to be the head of this force, someone who has what it takes to keep strong and who can give orders. That someone is you, Captain Frost." This was a lot to hear. I envisioned my days fighting reapers by holding our ground here at N7 HQ, not leading a special task group. "Why did you choose me specifically, Admiral?" I asked Hackett. "It's your background in leading an emergency response team in C-Sec and your resolve to keep pushing towards your goal to get it done. That's what got you to N7 after all." Hackett's explanation made sense but still this was a lot to take in. "Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew are being sent to the citadel to request aid in the fight for Earth. But, I need a group that can be deployed to any location and offer assistance as well as gather intel for this war. Not just Alliance but all species, we'll take all the help we can get." Hackett said, putting the datapad down. "I am honored sir. I will do whatever it takes to make sure Special Forces is doing what it was tasked for." I said with another salute to the admiral. Hackett activated his omni-tool and displayed a space station on the comm call. "You're first task is to arrive at Jarove Station. There is an STG operative who reports to have found intel regarding indoctrination being involved with Cerberus. I need you to meet with the Salarian, his name is Kirito. Confirm if Cerberus are really allying themselves with the reapers." Hackett transferred the info he had just told me to my omni-tool. "General Greene will go over transportation. Once you are finished, report back to me, captain." Hackett ordered. "Yes sir, I will get it done." I said saluting once more. Hackett gave a nod then walked off as his digitized form faded away signifying the call had ended.
