A/N: Okay. So, this is my first trek into Disney territory, and I am more than just a little nervous with how this is going to go because this is going to be M due to language and violence. And more than likely sexual content. I don't know how to do PG-13 content. It's a curse.
I am going to be honest; I was on the fence about posting this story since my OC is Zed's twin sister and my other OC is her boyfriend. But there will be plenty of Zoey and the other characters. Plus, this story will also be told from Zed's POV and several others as well.
The only reason I decided to post it was due to heavy encouragement from 20rwagner.
My female OC Zaylia Necrodopolis is portrayed by Lauren Robson, a British model. And her mate, my other OC, Enzo, is portrayed by Cameron Monaghan (his Jeremiah Valeska era, eyes wise). They are both Zombies.
So, to keep myself from blabbering on, I will launch into the story
"One of the remarkable things about love is that, despite very irritating people writing poems and songs about how pleasant it is, it really is quite pleasant."
Lemony Snicket
"You always hurt the one you love, the one you shouldn't hurt at all," Zaylia had always loved the song she was singing. While it was about heartbreak, her mother had used to sing it to her when she was sick. To Zoey and Zed, too. "You always take the sweetest rose and crush it till the petals fall."
Her mother was gone. Containment had taken her five years ago and the next thing the Necrodopolis family knew was they were burying her. The Scientists and Doctors refused to say what happened or how she died. And no one outside Zombietown cared enough to push for answers.
A tug at her scalp caused her to look up at her little sister who was braiding a portion of her hair back into a crown for her first day of human school. With her enhanced hearing, Zed's excited footsteps upstairs were easily overheard.
"Keep singing," Zoey insisted. "I'm almost done."
"You always break the kindest heart, with a hasty word you can't recall, so," she felt Zoey secure the small braid with a pin and give an excited squeal at the result. "If I broke your heart last night, it's because I love you most of all."
She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up as Zevon, her father, helped her to her feet.
"Your mother always loved the Mills Brothers."
"I know, pops."
He pressed a kiss to her forehead and ruffled Zoey's hair before heading into the kitchen to start breakfast.
"Will Enzo be joining us for breakfast?"
As if in answer to her father's question, there was a knock at the door. Even without opening it, Zaylia knew it was Enzo. Her inner zombie could feel him. Plus, the mark on her shoulder always throbbed when he was nearby.
She swung open the door to see her mate framed in the entry way. Like all Zombies, Enzo had deathly pale skin and red rimmed eyes. But oddly enough, his eyes were his defining feature. They were the color of granny smith apples and seemed to have an ominous, cat like glow to them. They had been that way since he was born. No one knew why.
He stepped over the threshold and hugged her, his six-foot frame dwarfing her much smaller one at only five foot one in height. Yet Enzo was still shorter than her twin, Zed, who was six foot three.
"Good morning, Enzo."
"Good morning, Mr. Necrodopolis."
While originally upset by the mating marks, Zevon had come around, having realized that controlling one's baser instincts was hard. Zombies mated for life.
"Ruff."
Zaylia looked over her shoulder to see that Zed had appeared at the base of the stairs and was looking at Zoey, pretending he was a dog. Zoey wanted a dog. But the humans wouldn't let Zombies have pets. For some reason, they thought they were going to eat them. Which was both ridiculous and disgusting all at once.
"Ruff. Ruff."
"Come, Zed, come."
Enzo and Zaylia both watched in charmed amusement as Zed hunched, and put both hands up like a begging dog, leaping over to Zoey, who looked absolutely thrilled by his actions. She patted his shoulder.
"Good boy."
They both went and plopped down at the table, Enzo pouring himself some orange juice. Zed tried to control his glare, but he was still getting use to having to share his bond with his sister with someone else. Because Zed and Zaylia were twins, he could feel the effects of the mating bond to some extent. None of the gross stuff, thank Z, but more the base line of it.
It was just weird.
And even a year later, he still was not sure how he felt about it.
If Enzo noticed, he ignored it.
"Hey, son, try this," Zevon came into the room carrying a tray of canned cauliflower and eggs for his kid's breakfast. "Brains in a can. It's made out of cauliflower."
He put some on Zed, Zaylia's, and Enzo's plate before turning to Zoey.
"And some for you, my little zombie angel."
He pushed the rest onto his own plate before taking a seat.
Enzo and Zaylia kindly kept their opinions to themselves on breakfast's unique taste. It tasted weird to say the least. They had nothing to worry about, though. Zed projected their thoughts.
"It tastes like gym sneakers, Dad."
"I know," Zevon had a huge smile on his face as he answered with a chuckle. "How great is that?"
Zed shrugged his shoulders, exchanging a glance with his twin, before continuing to eat.
"Listen, Zed. I'm not so sure about this whole football thing, you know?" Zevon looked at his only son with concern. "It might be too much. I mean, you're a great kid, it's just...you haven't spent a whole lot of time around humans and humans don't really like zombies."
Zed, ever the optimist, only smiled.
"That's just 'cause they haven't met me yet," he looked at Zoey as he stood, holding out a hand for a high five. "Woof!"
Zevon smiled as his son ran up the stairs before turning to his older daughter who was playing pancake with Zoey.
"Watch out for him."
She smiled. "Always."
She took Enzo's offered hand as she stood, dropping a kiss on Zoey's head and patting her father's shoulder as she headed for the door.
Today was a new day. A new opportunity.
A/N: Okay, so that is the first chapter. It was more experimental than anything. Just feeling the territory, so to speak.
Review. Let me know what you think.
The next chapter will more than likely be in Zed's Point of View.
