2:30 a.m.

The nightlife of the city was all that could be heard as Jamie sat on one end of the hospital room. On the other end laid his wife, who had a small bandage on the side of her head, with a small stain of blood peeking through it and her left wrist in a cast.

Sleep hadn't found him yet and he felt like it wasn't going to. The last 12 hours had been a whirlwind for them both. When he left work the previous morning, the last thing he expected was to get a call a few hours later that his wife was being taken hostage in the interrogation room of their precinct.

He arrived to the 29 to find the perp in hysterics, holding a gun to his head while using his other hand to keep a tight grip on Eddie, who was sitting down in a chair with her hands cuffed behind her back. The door to the room was shut with a table that had Eddie's gun on it. He threatened to shoot anyone who tried to come through the door.

The precinct C.O, ESU, and the borough commander had already established a perimeter around the room. Jamie made his way through them to get to the front. The room had a small window where they were able to see inside. It was there where he was finally able to lock eyes with Eddie. She had a calm exterior but her eyes told him that she was panicking.

"You okay?" he mouthed.

"Yes ," she mouthed back with a quick nod.

The perp seemed to have noticed the quiet exchange and immediately got upset. He pulled Eddie out of the chair, wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and put the gun against her head. He yelled obscenities as he tightened his grip around her.

Jamie immediately retreated. He moved behind the barricade of officers and out of the perp's line of sight. The man was pissed off now. Jamie didn't want to do anything else to provoke him further and get his wife seriously hurt.

He sat on the sidelines watching in agony. It took everything in him not to rush in there and save her. She was certainly capable of holding her own but ever since they found out the news that their little family would be expanding in the new year, his protectiveness of her was at a new level. The pregnancy was still in its early stages so only Jamie, their C.O, and her partner were the ones who knew about it.

Danny showed up soon after he did. He assumed that he was sent there by his father to keep him at bay. Despite their differing views at times, he was grateful for his presence.

"We're going to get her out," Danny promised his little brother.

"I know Danny," Jamie replied.

After a hellish four hours, they realized that the perp wasn't going to stand down without a fight. Jamie and Danny decided to make their move. Please don't hurt my family was something that Eddie had learned about early on in their relationship. Jamie had instilled it in her and made it second nature. As soon as she heard those words from him, she dropped to the ground. Danny took the shot while Jamie immediately pulled her out of the room.

"I got you. I got you," he said over and over. He slid down against the wall with her in his arms and kissed the top of her head.

They made it to the hospital soon after to get Eddie checked out. Fortunately, she only had a sprained left wrist and small cut on the side of her head. They both let out a sigh of relief when the doctor performed an ultrasound and confirmed that their baby was fine but wanted her to stay overnight as a precaution.

Now, he stayed on watch over her. He wasn't going to let anyone hurt her ever again. He was ready to slay anyone who walked through the door and threatened to harm her. Suddenly, he was broken out of his trance when he heard a small voice call out to him.

"Jamie?" he heard.

He glanced over to see her tired eyes staring back at him.

"Yeah?" he answered.

She scooted over on the small hospital bed and patted the spot next to her.

"Come here," she replied. "…Please?"

Jamie stood up and made his way to her. She pulled on his hand and gestured for him to lay next to her.

"I'm okay, Ed," he responded gently. "You sleep."

"Jameson Reagan," she said with a soft sternness in her voice. "Lay down."

He finally obliged. He carefully laid down next to her while being mindful of her injuries. They laid in silence for a few minutes before Jamie spoke up.

"Ed… I'm so sorry," he began. "I..."

"Stop," she chastised gently as she squeezed his arm. "You have nothing to apologize for."

"You and the baby could've been seriously hurt," he responded.

"But we weren't. We're fine, Jamie," she comforted, pressing a kiss on his cheek. She pulled the thin blanket over them. Then, she grabbed his hand and placed it on her belly.

"We love you," she said, her voice slowly starting to fade. "Go to sleep now, Bub."

He nodded. He pulled her close, wrapped a protective arm over her and their child and finally fell into a deep sleep.
