As the sun rose above the Pridelands. A group of lionesses began their day job. Protecting the pride's most important resources. Food and water. So far it's been pretty easy. Ever since the Outlands declared peace and Kion befriended the hyena that ended up becoming the queen of the Outlands. Everything since then has been relatively peaceful .

Because of that, the Guard hardly need to Guard anything. More so just checking on the Zebras, buffalo and gemsbok to see if they aren't being hunted by carnivores they shouldn't be." Shabaha! Imara! Wake up!" Vitani yelled. The guard collectively "ughed" as they hardly sleep on time. At least on time that would be suitable for how early they wake up.

" Why do you wake us up so early?" Tazama asked.

"What can I say? I'm an early riser." Vitani replied." I don't know what the Rest of you are complaining about." Kasi said with enthusiasm." Of course you don't, I don't think I've ever seen you sleep." Imara commented." No need to argue. Let's just go. The earlier we wake up the quicker we can get some rest." Vitani stated trying her best to motivate them.

" Sure, make up for the rest we missed." Imara commented. Vitani ignored the comment. She was more than used to the group's discontent with the time they start patrol.

There was one thing she always wondered. Why do I wake up so early? She thought to herself. She did it so often and yet she never really remembered why. Ignoring the thoughts her and Guard continued their patrol. They never strayed from the rotation. They first check on the Zebras as they are normally the ones who get in trouble the most. Than they check on the Gemsbok and than the buffalo. The order may shuffle, but it always came down to those few residents.

The patrol went the way it always does. Calm and peaceful. Once the rest of the guard got over their grumpy morning mood they were more than pleasant."- and that is why I never mess with hippos." Shabaha said giggling." Huh, what did you say? Sorry I wasn't paying attention." Kasi said, confused about how their conversation went from Friendships to hippos." Of course you weren't. Anyway, let's talk about something else." Vitani requested, realising that she too wasn't paying attention." Sure, how about why you wake up so early?" Imara asked still spiteful she had to wake up so early.

" Well Imara, if you must know." Vitani said before pausing." I don't know. It's just a habit, I've been doing it for as long as I can remember." She stated." Interesting, so you don't have a reason for waking me- I mean us up early." Imara said, catching her words alittle to late." I'm sure there is a reason. You probably just forgot." Kasi said to Vitani." Probably right." Vitani replied."Well, we're almost done with our patrol. Let's finish this quick so we can rest." Vitani said.

Arriving at the Zebras grazing grounds. The final and most annoying stop. The Zebras were well known among the once Outland lions as "the most unpleasant animals to speak to." in the Pridelands. Being the daughter of a once highly hated lioness didn't really help Vitani be anymore welcomed by any of the Zebras, but she always came to expect that from them.

" Oh great, the Lion Guard is here." One of the Zebras said." Nice to see you too. Anyway you know the drill. Quicker you answer, the quicker we'll leave you alone." Vitani said trying her best to move it along as quickly as possible. After a few minutes of the Zebras talking to each other one of them walked up to the Guard and simply uttered "No."

Vitani sighed.

" Why?"

"Because we aren't a fan of you."

"Yeah, I've noticed that."

"Have you? Because you never seem to get the memo."

"What memo?"

"None of us want you here. All you do is bother us with your pointless questions."

"It's my duty as a member of the Guard. Wether you appreciate it isn't my concern."

" Good for you, because we don't."

The Zebras stared at Vitani for a few seconds, after a long period of silence. He eventually caved." We haven't been hunted by animals we shouldn't have." He said defeated." Thank you. Now we'll leave." Vitani said before ordering her guard to leave.

" Jeez, those conversations always get heated." Tazama commented." Luckily Vita' handles well." Imara said." Wow, you said something that doesn't have anything to do with sleep for once." Vitani said jokingly.

"Funny." Imara said spitefully.

The Guard eventually arrived back to Pride Rock were they were greeted by Kiara and Kovu, the soon-to-be king and queen of the Pride.

" Hey sis." Kovu greeted.

"Hey bro." Vitani greeted back.

" How did patrol go?" Kiara asked.

"Zebras' were a pain as they normally are, but other than that everything was great." Vitani answered." Was hoping you'd say that." Kiara said as a smile grew on her face.

"Why's that?"

"Well, Kovu has been talking with our dad about letting you guys have a break tomorrow!"

"Finally!" Imara yelled in the background."Kovu you shouldn't have!" Vitani said lovingly." Hey you and the Guard have been working hard for the past month. I just thought you guys deserved something for your efforts." Kovu replied." Well you don't have to worry about waking up early tomorrow. If anything happens we'll wake you up." Kiara said. Vitani nodded." Hey, Now we can find out what happens when you sleep in!" Shabaha added." I Guess so." Vitani replied. With that the group returned to their cave.

No with some stress lifted of their chests. To hopefully get more sleep then they normally do. However that won't be the case.
