CHAPTER TWO
A Hero Named Saitama
"Um... who are you?" asked Deku. Everything was starting to feel very surreal for him today, from no crimes occurring in the city, to a strange portal appearing in the sky and then a strange costumed bald guy popping up out of the rubble with no injuries. If anything, he should be dead.
"Oh yeah... I'm Saitama," said the bald man, "but I'm known professionally by the Hero Association as 'The Caped Baldy'. Of course I'm the hero stuck with the crappy, on-the-nose name." He ended his sentence with a droopy face and slouched shoulders. He then straightened up and asked, "Have you seen my disciple, Genos? He's blonde haired. A cyborg. Feels the need to brood occasionally about how he needs to get stronger or something like that."
Deku and Uravity just continued to stare strangely at the man. Uravity leaned over towards Deku and whispered, "I think he lost it when the building collapsed on him. Or maybe before."
"Hey, I'm not deaf..." replied Saitama bluntly.
"Oh, sorry Mr. Saitama, I didn't mean it like that," Uravity apologized, "I'm just wanting to make sure that you're ok."
"Eh, I've had worse happen..." he replied, dusting the remnants of rubble off of his suit, "Though it does get annoying when it gets down my suit." He quickly spun around and took off his boots. He then began tugging on the waist of his suit while simultaneously wiggling each leg for a few seconds, bits of stone and cement tumbling out of his pant legs.
Deku found it weird how calm this man looked after pulling himself out of a crumbled building, acting like it wasn't anything new. Perhaps he was much stronger than he appeared, yet he looked so... dull and ordinary.
After he had cleared out his suit, Saitama put his boots back on and turned around towards the hero duo. "So, what are your hero names?"
Deku snapped out of his thoughts, realizing he had been staring at him, and said, "Oh, I'm Deku, and this is Uravity. We're hero course students at U.A. High."
"Huh, they have a school for heroes now?" said Saitama, "Interesting. Wish there was a school like that a few years ago. Probably would have made my training easier."
"Wait, you mean you're actually a superhero?" asked Deku.
"Yeah. Caped Baldy, remember? Class B Rank 7."
"Class B? Rank 7? What do you mean?"
"I don't know what else I could mean. Aren't you two ranked? I'd guess a lower Class C rating by the looks of you two. And aren't you two a little young to be superheroes, what with school and all?"
Deku was starting to get suspicious of this guy, especially how his face didn't seem to change in expression. Perhaps he was under mind control, like he had been before with Shinso? Weirdly enough, Deku thought that his face was less detailed than the average human.
He leaned towards Uravity and whispered, "Can you do a registry check under the names 'Saitama' and 'Caped Baldy'?"
Uravity nodded and began to type away on her phone, but her attention was diverted upon hearing Saitama's annoyed groan.
"Ugh, for the last time, I'm not deaf. I'm a hero for fun," he said with exasperation.
"A... hero for fun?" asked Deku with uncertainty.
"Yeah. What else am I supposed to do with my life? Especially after becoming so powerful, life's been super boring." He then huffed and muttered, "I'm Class B and still no one recognizes me. Why can't I just get a fan club like Genos."
Uravity stopped typing on her phone and said to Deku, "I couldn't find anything in the World Hero Association under those two names."
"World Hero Association?..." Saitama asked from directly behind her. Uravity and Deku shrieked at his sudden appearance, Uravity flinging her phone in the air from the shock. Saitama nonchalantly caught it and looked at the screen. "This is the wrong association. I'm listed on the 'Hero Association', not the 'World Hero Association'."
Uravity went to yank her phone back, but Saitama's extreme strength kept her from pulling it out of his hand. He looked down on her and realized what was happening, so he let go. Uravity suddenly found herself flung back onto the ground, phone in hand, and a strong look of annoyance formed upon her face.
"How did you move so fast?!" Deku shrieked, both surprised and intrigued.
"Um... I ran?..." Saitama said, not knowing how else to answer. He then glanced over at a restaurant down the street. "Oooo, I'm starving! I hope their udon isn't too pricey." He then began to jog over, leaving a bewildered Deku and a mad Uravity behind.
"Who does he think he is?" Uravity asked, her arms crossed in frustration, miffed at the fact he had been looking at her phone.
She was mainly nervous that he'd find some incriminating evidence about her crush on Deku.
"I'm not entirely sure," said Deku, not knowing what this man was himself, "but we should keep an eye on him until other heroes arrive. They might be able to know what to do with him. We can leave this mess for the police to take care of." At that, the duo ran after Saitama, as the bald hero waltzed through the front door of the restaurant.
