The next day, we were all up before seven to get ready to leave for Maine. Mrs. Willis had already packed the U-haul while were with Jessi. We only need our suitcases in the trunk. When we all dressed, we helped the crew to load their suitcases. Their bus is big enough to fit everything.
At eight am, we were ready to leave. Mario requested to sit with me.
"That's fine. He's comfortable with you and I'll have D.J. with me to make sure he behaves," said Mrs. Willis.
Which is a good thing- I don't trust D.J. with anyone else. Neither does his mom for that matter. Then, we left for Maine. We stopped for breakfast. I usually have a light meal because if I have a big meal, I'd get car sick for some odd reason.
"When do you start your new position?" I asked.
"After the 4th of July," said Mrs. Willis.
"Same with my father," I said.
"Oh, he plans to invite us over for the cookout," said Mrs. Willis.
"Neat," I said.
"Mom ordered a bunk bed for us," said Bert.
"I did that this past week," said Mrs. Willis. "Her father let those people in and put the bunk bed in their new room."
"That's nice," I said. "Dad was looking for a dining room that would fit six of us especially when Jeff visits. I stayed in touch every once in awhile in New Mexico they're only 2 hours behind us. Carlos told me they had to stay at a hotel for a few days while they did the finishing touches with our new house and Dad did found a reasonable dining room table."
She made a few stops in between to stretch our legs. We made to Maine by 4:00 pm and were at their house 10 minutes off the highway. I didn't see Dad's car yet.
"Your father told me he would be at the meeting to go over things before he starts," said Mrs. Willis. "He didn't say what time he'd be home."
I helped upload their things including from the U-haul before grabbing my suitcase. I went next door after I helped get settle in. Carlos was home.
"Mom went to get pizza with Dawn and told me to stay to let you in," said Carlos.
"That's okay. I've been back since Friday, but Jessi had her dance recital. It made out fine since Mrs. Willis planned to leave today anyway," I said. "I was just helping the group unload both from the trunk and the U-haul that their mom rented. In fact, they told me we're next door neighbors now."
"Good," said Carlos.
"I didn't know about it until last night," I said. "I'm glad we can still see each other more often."
"Dad wants me to bring you to your new room," said Carlos.
That's what he did. My new room was a bit bigger than my old one. It also has twin beds.
"The twin beds were including when we got here," said Carlos. "Dad decided to let you unpack so you can put things whenever you want. You also got a walk in closet."
He showed it to me.
"Dad only did your bed and got a matching set for the other bed," said Carlos.
"I'll just unpack after dinner," I said.
"That would be a good idea. They'll be back any minute," said Carlos.
"How did Tigger made out?" I asked.
"He did fine in the car. Your dad had April watch your cat while we were back and forth here so he won't have to be alone in the hotel room all day," said Carlos.
"That makes sense," I said.
"He's adjusting well here," said Carlos.
"That's good," I said.
"And, he's been sleeping with us while you were gone," said Carlos.
Tigger was following Carlos when he spotted me and came in to me as I picked him up.
"He's glad to see you," said Carlos.
"I can tell," I smiled.
"We're back with pizza," said Sharon.
After dinner, I unpacked my things. I used my walk-in closet for my dresses, long sleeves, pants along with my nightgown and robe. I used my drawer for my underwear, bras, socks, and short sleeve shirts. Dad came home from the meeting by the time I was done. I was getting tired after a long day.
"Carlos showed me in here, but I didn't unpack until after dinner," I said.
"That's alright," said Dad. "The dining room table came with extra chairs, but we'll save them when we have any other company here."
"I saw that," I said. "Was it tough to find when you came?"
"Not really," said Dad.
"That's good," I said.
I went to bed by 10:00 pm. I hope I can adjust to the move, but I know it would take me awhile to do so.
