The next day, Kayla asked me to help unpack, so that's what I went to do.
"Mom wanted us to take it slow before we start unpacking. We got a lot unpacking to do, which is why we asked for your help. We got a small issue. Our room is not big enough for Mario," said Kayla.
"What did you had to do with him?" I asked.
"There was one room with a single bed and he still won't share a room with D.J., but no one wanted him, so M.J. invited Mario since they're close. Therefore, D.J. has his own room," said Kaylee.
"He needs to set an example for Mario," I said.
"I know," said Kaylee.
We spent the day unpacking. We finished by three pm.
"Mom's planning to go food shopping tomorrow and asked us to watch the younger kids. Can you help in case we need you for D.J.?" asked Kayla.
"What time?" I asked.
"I think it's either nine or eleven am," said Kaylee.
"We can double check with her," said Kayla.
They did and it was eleven am.
"It won't be long. It's easier to do it without the younger kids," said Mrs. Willis.
"D.J.'s the worse. He loses his temper if he doesn't get his way," said Kaylee.
I went home by four-thirty pm.
"Their mom's going food shopping tomorrow and asked them to keep an eye on their younger siblings. The girls asked me to pitch if they need me for D.J. I just need to go next door for eleven," I said.
"Okay," said Dad.
"I don't know what time I'll be home," I said.
"We can wait for you for lunch," said Dad. "We just might have sandwiches."
The following day, I was next door after their mom left.
"Both the cable and the phone guys are coming tomorrow. We might or might not need you to help keep them busy," said Kayla.
"We don't know what time yet. One of us can text you," said Kaylee.
"No problem," I said.
Mario came out. "Can I tell her my news?"
"Oh, yeah, you can," said Kayla.
"The private school got room for me, Mary Anne," said Mario.
"That's the best thing for you," I said.
"I told Mom ahead of time, so she called around and found one," said Mario.
"Good," I said.
I knew why: he didn't want to attend the same school as D.J., but we don't say that in front in him. That's why Mario only said that the private school got room for me.
"It includes high school, so she said I can stay there if I like it," said Mario.
"If it was the opposite, they wouldn't tolerate D.J.'s behavior," said Kayla.
"I'm the same way," I said.
"Yeah, some nuns are strict, but as long as you behave, you're all set," added Kaylee.
"Carlos told me that he had an awful experience with one while he was at Stoneybrook Day School," I said.
To my surprise, D.J. behaved for a change. Mrs. Willis came home before twelve-thirty pm.
"Let's help Mom bring in the groceries," said Kayla.
That's we did and it no time to do so. By the time we were done, I had to go home for lunch. I told Dad about tomorrow.
"I bet they'll need you more when their mom starts her new job," said Dad.
"Probably," I said. "Mario had big news he wanted to tell me. He's going to the private school."
"Good, at least he won't need to face D.J.," said Dawn.
"I know," I said. "He told his mom and she found one before the girls and I got back from the trip."
"But if it was D.J. going there, the school won't let him being bad," said Dawn. "Some nuns are strict about that."
"I agree," said Carlos.
"I did remember the experience you had with one," I said.
"I don't miss that part," said Carlos.
"I don't blame you. If I was a nun, I wouldn't hit a misbehaved student. I'd just send him to the office," I said.
"Me, too," said Dawn.
Carlos told me they used to have nuns at his school. One was terrible- the nun would let the bad ones get away with it, but the good ones would get in trouble for nothing. She even hit his hand, which was against the law. It happened just after Carlos lost his family and after he moved to the orphanage. He was unhappy. His grades went down. He had the guts to tell his principal, who believed him, and pulled him out of that classroom with a regular teacher. The nun got fired- in fact, all nuns got banned ever since.
