A.N. Hi everyone! This is my first Odaiba day! My first experience with Digimon was Digimon Data Squad, but as I got back into the series, around June 2021, I have fallen in love with the franchise. For me Odaiba day is about celebrating Digimon as a whole, not just the original group, and this idea had been floating around in my head for weeks now and now I can write it down. The two main Digimon series I like are Frontier and the Adventure 02 series. My favourite characters are Koichi and Ken (they constantly swap with the top spot), with Koji and Matt rounding out the top four. Yeah, I know, second in command and redemption characters, but we all have our favourites. So, without further ado, here's a Koichi and Lopmon fic. Oh yeah and spoilers for Digimon Frontier, just in case. That and I don't own Digimon.
"Koichi!"
Koichi Kimura shot out of bed hearing that voice. He looked around only to find no-one there in the pitch-black darkness.
"Koichi!"
There it was again! He tried to put it in the back of his mind. It had only been a few weeks since everyone came back from the digital world. Even though it was only a short time, he could still feel Lowemon's presence and his bravery.
"Koichi!"
That third time the voice sounded close. He looked around his darkened room again and finally pinpointed some movement in the corner. As if on instinct, he reached for the closest thing he could grab. A slipper. All he had to fight back was a slipper. And that was only if the movement had anything to do with an enemy.
But he had no reason to be afraid. The Warrior of Darkness had always found comfort in the night. He was proof that Darkness didn't have to be evil. So why should he be afraid of anything in the dark?
Slowly but surely, he inched his way towards the light switch, slipper ready in case the creature decided to ambush him. He could hear a small amount of shuffling from the corner, making him make a quick dash to the switch. The next three things happened extremely quickly, more by instinct than anything else.
The lights turned on. The slipper was thrown. And a slight "hey!" shot across the room as the slipper hit his bookshelf.
Koichi looked over at the corner to find a pink and brown bunny staring back at him. His eyes went wide when he realised who it was.
"LOPMON!?" Koichi exclaimed then froze as he turned to the door. No movement. His mother was still asleep.
Lopmon chuckled nervously as he raised a paw in a slight wave. "Hi Koichi..."
"What are you doing here? Better yet, how are you here? I thought Bokomon said that Digimon couldn't go to the real world!"
Lopmon shook his head. "Normally Digimon can't go to the real world. We put that rumour in as a precaution. Do you know what would happen if Digimon with bad intentions could come to the human world whenever they want?"
Koichi thought it over in his head. From what he heard from Koji about the final battle, Lucemon was set on causing mass destruction. He could only dread about what other Digimon with a similar mindset could do. "I see your point." he finally replied. "But that doesn't explain why your here."
Lopmon's head lowered, as if trying to avoid his gaze. Not that the celestial rabbit had anything to worry about. The look on the older twin was one of curiosity and not anger. He took a deep breath before looking up to the boy.
"I don't know if Seraphimon lost all the memories he had when he was Patamon..." he began, "But I forgot about the things I did as Cherubimon. I still remembered the good things. Just not the bad things."
Koichi didn't say anything - he just remained silent. quietly listening.
"Then, a few weeks later, I was visiting Salamon - Ophanimon's library and that's when I found it." Lopmon lowered his head again. "Bokomon's book."
Koichi let out a slight gasp. He had seen his companion scribbling in the book during the quieter parts of their adventure. "He sure works fast. It's only been a few weeks since we came back." he remarked.
"You have to remember Koichi, that time flows faster in the Digital World than it does in the real world." Lopmon explained. "Anyway, when I read that book, everything came flooding back to me. Fighting with Ophanimon and Seraphimon, leading the charge against the human type Digimon. Being corrupted by Lucemon." He turned his eyes back to Koichi, eyes filled with remorse. "Corrupting you."
Koichi lowered his head at that, his face shifting into a small frown. He didn't have to say anymore.
"When I saw you sacrifice yourself against Lucemon, I felt helpless. It was my fault that got you into that situation in the first place. I prayed on your anger and fear. I used you as a tool. I nearly made you kill your own brother." Lopmon couldn't hold it anymore. Tears began to flow out like a waterfall, all the emotion that were built up finally forcing the flood gates to open. They only stopped when the pink bunny felt a pair of arms wrap around him and pull him into a hug.
"Lopmon. It's ok. I don't blame you." Koichi whispered, calmly and quietly. "You were under Lucemon's control. You were taken advantage of just as much as I was." He pulled away from the hug, allowing the former celestial angel to spot tears threatening to flow from the Warrior of Darkness' eyes. "Remember what I said? I wasn't your pawn. I was your greatest gift. If I didn't come to the digital world. I probably would never have met Koji. I couldn't have introduced him to our mother, and I would still be angry at everything. You allowed me to accomplish what I wanted to do. You set me free from my pain." Koichi told the bunny as he finally calmed down.
"I'm sorry."
Koichi gave a quiet laugh and a soft smile. "What do you have to be sorry for? Sure, I was controlled, but Takuya and Koji freed me, and if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be the person I am today. I might still have memories of what I did as Duskmon, but I'm putting that behind me and I have no reason to fear the Darkness anymore."
Lopmon gave a light chuckle as he processed what the boy just said. "So, you're not mad at me?" Koichi just shook his head. The pink bunny gave a soft smile. "Thank you. It was nice to talk about this. Although next time, maybe don't throw a slipper at me."
"You gave me a slight scare, that's all." Koichi exclaimed as both of them gave a light laugh. This continued for about half a minute. "I do have one more question Lopmon."
"What is it Koichi?"
"How were you able to find me?"
Lopmon smiled then turned towards the window, where a small purple mist was starting to gather. "I had a bit of help." he chuckled. "I am charged with protecting the Spirits of Darkness after all."
The mist grew until it took on the form of two shapes. Koichi gasped as the mist hardened into two familiar figures.
"Hello Koichi."
"Lowemon! JagerLowemon!" Koichi exclaimed in both amazement and surprise. The Human Spirit fit in the room just fine, but it took some slight adjustment for the Beast Warrior of Darkness to get comfortable. Lowemon chuckled as he was grabbed by his human counterpart into a hug.
"It's so good to see you again." Lowemon said. Koichi could tell by the shape of Lowemon's eyes that he was smiling under his face plate.
"I don't believe this! How did you know where I was?"
"The Spirit's always know where their holders are, even across worlds." JagerLowemon explained as he nuzzled Koichi's cheek.
"So, you brought Lopmon here?"
Lowemon chuckled. "More like Lopmon came on his own. We just told him where to go."
"But why?"
Lowemon and JagerLowemon looked at each other before the human spirit spoke. "Because we didn't get proper closure. Everyone got to say goodbye, but us. Just as I could sense that you were still alive, I could also sense that you had some lingering feelings about everything that happened. So, when Lopmon came to me asking me to find you. I knew that this was what you needed." His gaze shifted to Lopmon, who was watching the whole exchange. "The both of you."
Koichi smiled at that. It was one thing to become the spirit's, but it was another thing to be comforted by them. Koichi was close to tears as he was embraced by the two spirits. He looked over to see Lopmon watching the exchange with a smile on his face. The Warrior of Darkness gestured for him to join the group, making Lopmon smile as he jumped onto Koichi's shoulder joining into the group hug.
An unknown amount of time passed before the hug was broken by JagerLowemon shifting. "I hate to say it, but it's time to go." Koichi's face dropped into a slight frown as he looked out the window to see the sun starting to break through the night.
"What?" Koichi asked.
"I'm sorry to say, but JagerLowemon's right. We have to get Lopmon back to the Digital World and we have to return to our duty of protecting it."
"But why do you have to leave? Will I ever see you again?" Koichi asked, his voice rising in panic.
JagerLowemon gave the boy another nuzzle as Lowemon lowered himself on one knee so that his eyes were level with Koichi's. "You know we will never leave you, right Koichi?" Lowemon asked. "We will always be watching over you. And if the Digital World happens to get into trouble again, your group will be the first to know." That didn't make Koichi feel much better, only slight. Lopmon was right. The Legendary Warriors were defending the Digital World, but they always tried to protect the Digital World, just as their humans had. That unbreakable trust wasn't one to be broken easily. The boy nodded reluctantly and turned to the pink bunny.
"Guess you have to go too." Koichi asked.
Lopmon nodded. "Yeah, " From the tone of the voice, he wasn't happy about it at all. "But I'm glad we were able to have this talk."
Koichi gave a light smile, before pulling the bunny into another hug. "Me too. Thank you Lopmon."
The bunny chuckled as Koichi turned back to his two spirits. He petted JagerLowemon, making the mechanical lion purr and Koichi chuckle, before turning to his human Spirit. Lowemon smiled and held out his hand.
"Until we meet again. Wherever or whenever that may be." Koichi took the armoured hand, giving it a firm shake as both of their eyes met, filled with warmth, care and comfort. They finally had their closure. All four of them.
Lowemon reluctantly broke the handshake as Lopmon jumped onto JagerLowemon's back as the two spirits returned to the purple mist. It scooped up Lopmon as it flew around Koichi, making the boy laugh before it flew out the window into the emerging sunrise.
Koichi watched it from the window until the mist disappeared from view before letting out a soft smile that soon gave way to a small yawn. He sat down in the corner of the room where Lopmon had been hiding, a comforting smile on his face. His mother would be waking up soon, but he enjoyed the sensation of the three visitors he had received, knowing that he was finally able to thank them properly for everything.
A.N. That was so much fun. I'll be honest, endings are not my strong suit, but I tried my best. I wanted to do this justice after all because, as I said at the beginning, Koichi is one of my favourite characters.
Feel free to share your favourite Digimon memories. My favourites (no surprise) would probably be Koichi and Ken's redemptions. Koichi is the reason that I have the mindset of Darkness not meaning evil (The first time the Spirit Evolves into Lowemon and defeating IceDevimon are two highlights for me besides his sacrifice) and there's a reason that Ken's the holder of the crest of Kindness. He's a good kid and kindness is a trait I hold in extremely high regard. Maybe next year, I'll do a Ken fanfiction. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Happy Odaiba Day everyone! K.C. (Krazy Cupcake)
P.S. I will be likely be adding a cover page. I just don't have it ready yet. Also, I would love some feedback, but no flames!
