Author's Note:
Welcome to my new story everyone! (Imaginary Isabella is still being rewritten, sorry) This story was inspired by "The Secret Life of Candace" by PFTones3482. There are other stories I took inspiration from, but I can't talk about them without MAJOR spoilers for future plot points.
All you need to know is that this is primarily a spy thriller by Phineas and Ferb standards. Sort of like the more Perry centric episodes. Everything will still be kept in line with the style of the show though, just with deeper themes about family and trust.
Ferb looked contently over the vast sand and sea that sat in his backyard. Unlike the rollercoaster from yesterday, the beach was much easier to build. Time often flew whenever he and his brother were inventing, but even he felt that the free time they had to enjoy the summer was much longer today.
Of course, the extra time also gave Ferb a lot more time to prepare.
So when the telltale sound of his mother's car sounded in the driveway, Ferb was prepared and began to silently usher guests out.
The kids were reluctant, but once the water started receding, many decided to go and Ferb breathed a sigh of relief. With everyone safely out, he flipped the switch on his hidden remote that brought the fence back up to obscure the entire beach just as his sister came barreling back in with his mom in tow.
"Hey boys!"
"Hey mom!" Phineas yelled back.
"So how was your day at the beach?"
Ferb watched in amusement, and some concern as Candace started to sputter about the missing paradise. Candace was a bit of a wild card since she began her busting attempts years ago. Although it nearly got the brothers in trouble a few times in the past, she also served as a bit of a check to ensure that Phineas' inventions never got too out of hand.
As he watched the humorous scene unfold, Ferb gave a sigh of relief knowing that his job was done for the day and prepared himself for the debrief later.
Phineas and Ferb were brothers and they were quick to correct anyone who tried to assume otherwise. However even the closest siblings kept secrets from each other and Ferb was no different.
So when Ferb made sure that Phineas (and Perry) were soundly asleep, he crept downstairs past a snoring Candace and carefully dragged the patio door open before stepping outside. With a single heave, he pulled himself up into his great tree before pressing a secret button on his watch.
It instantly flared to life, revealing a very tired looking teen with red hair and purple glasses.
"You're a bit late," Carl pointed out.
Ferb simply gestured at his sisters' window, where the snores could clearly be heard even from outside.
Carl simply gave a muted laugh, "Did she have bit of a long day?"
Ferb gave a sharp nod and Carl sighed.
"She's certainly stepping up on the Busting attempts," Carl turned sombre. "That may become a problem in the future."
Ferb gave a rare frown of annoyance and almost voiced his displeasure, but Carl sensed his mood and spared Ferb the discomfort.
"I know this is hard Ferb, but this is the best way to look out for your brother," Carl didn't look happy about this either. "You've been our best field agent for years and most in the agency don't even know about your existence. Let's just keep it that way until you all grow older."
Ferb wished it were that simple, but he was never going to give up their summer for anything.
Carl sighed as he shut off communications with the young boy and leaned back in his chair. Ever since O.W.C.A. had discovered the brothers' extraordinary creations, they began to archive the schematics for all of them. Some inventions like the hovercraft were even directly implemented into agent retinues.
Unfortunately, others were quick to notice the inventions and some even attempted to steal them until O.W.C.A. quickly put a stop to that. It was a miracle that L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. hadn't caught wind of the young inventors until Perry intervened.
Despite their shear luck, Monogram was still spooked into taking drastic measures to ensure that nothing fell into the wrong hands. Carl was very against the plan of bringing the boy into the circle of trust, but Monogram was very clear about sharing the bare minimum with Ferb about their agency. Thus, the calls were always at night at a time when Perry was usually asleep with Phineas.
It felt awful, and extremely tiring, trying to keep Ferb and Agent P separate. However, Monogram tried to assure Carl that it was for the best.
"It's simply too dangerous to throw Ferb into our world fully without the help of his friends." Was his explanation at the time.
Still, Carl had a terrible feeling that one day this delicate game of Jenga would end and all of O.W.C.A.'s secrets may come back to bite them.
Maybe one day, Ferb and Agent P might run into each other.
Maybe one day, Ferb wouldn't be able to stop Candace and her busting attempts.
Maybe one day, Doofenshmirtz would find Agent P's owners.
But all the speculation was for naught, for the day that the first domino fell, came on an unassuming night as Carl sat alone in his chair. Having just hung up with Ferb, Carl began to shut everything down when he heard a thump and froze.
It was too late for Agent P or Monogram to be awake and Carl immediately went on guard.
There was a beat of silence before Carl reached for the silent alarm.
He never made it.
There was a sizzle in the air and Carl felt something strike his back with a jolt. A shock coursed through him as he collapsed in the chair. Faintly he heard a child-like laugh before everything went dark.
