It was the moment Yorticia had destroyed Loidman's gloves during their fight that my brain went:" Yes, fight good, but what if LOVE?!" and wrote this. Also, Anya demanding a play from them because she wanted romance between her parents and didn't accept the canon ending in the castle is my personal headcanon. Loid and Yor would totally do this to not see Anya sad.
Anyway, enjoy! Be safe everyone :3
His arms around her were a solid presence, a silent oath to shield her from their enemies as well as her own demons.
"When was the last time you held me like this? Like I mean the world to you?" she whispered quietly into the crook of his neck, burying her face deeper into his shirt.
Loid swallowed thickly, his grip tightening on Yor reflexively as he stroked her head. His lips far too close to her ear. "You've always meant the world to me."
He would topple mountains for this witch, if it was her spell he was under, he would never want to break free from it, for it was her love that became his freedom, his utter undoing.
Leaning forward as if to kiss her forehead, Loid stopped just short before his lips made contact with her skin.
His heart felt like it was trying to escape out of the highest security prison in the world, clawing at its confinements that was his ribcage.
"Oh, Loidman!" Yor- no, Yorticia, gasped dramatically, her arms moving to wrap around Loi- Loidman and hug him so tight he swore he could feel his organs shift.
With a hand on her chin, Loidman could feel sweat building on the nape of his neck, staring deeply into Yorticia's eyes, the bright red blush on her cheeks, for once not from intoxicating concoctions, made her eyes stand out that much more. Perhaps it was only his imagination.
Loidman slowly leaned his head down and Yorticia was beginning to close her eyes, moving forward as well as the gap between grew smaller and smaller.
Both adults stopped just short of their lips meeting, opening their eyes to peek at their audience.
Bond was gently wagging his tail, giving short encouraging barks at their performance.
Anya was eating peanuts, eyes wide open and shining like the stars in a cloudless night. "Waku, waku!" Anya clapped, giving them a thumbs up. "Now kiss! Kiss! Kiss!"
The little girl waved her arms around, jumping up and down on Bond's back, which the canine didn't seem to mind too much.
"Ah- that wasn't in the script, Anya." Loidman- Loid interjected, his arms still wrapped around Yor.
It most definitely was in the script, a fifteen page paper filled with lines for Loidman and Yorticia and the last scene printed out in big, bold letters, underlined with one of Anya's colorful markers.
The kiss scene at the end of the play, where the legendary spy Loidman saves Princess Anya and, after regaining consciousness, the powerful witch Yorticia reveals her good natured intentions of protecting the princess, thinking Loidman was an evil man who had kidnapped the princess.
Needless to say, the two tormented souls found a mutual understanding, and eventually grew fond of each-other. That's where the play starts at.
Yor quickly glanced at the clock. "Oh my, it's already 10pm!" she not so discreetly nudged, more like punched, Loid in the side.
He jumped at the window of opportunity immediately. "Anya it's already past your bedtime."
There were already big fat crocodile tears in her eyes as soon as Loid moved towards her. "But- but the play isn't finished yet! Yorticia and Loidman didn't kiss yet!"
Loid picked her up and settled her against his chest, Anya all the while crying out:" Demon! Demon! Loidman turned into a demon!"
Loid huffed, eventually tucking Anya into bed and kissing her forehead once the child succumbed to the irresistible charms of her soft, warm bed.
When he came back to the living room, Yor was already putting away the costumes and props for the play. Loid moved to pick up the large witch hat Anya had insisted they buy for Yor, along with Loidman's gloves and mask.
"That was quite a performance." Loid complimented with a small smile, glancing Yor's way when he heard an embarrassed squeak.
"I-I, well, Anya did say it was a dramatic love confession." Yor pulled her hair behind her ear, putting the last of the props in the box they prepared for them. Loid joined her after dumping the rest of the props into it, now standing right in front of Yor.
He rubbed his nose. "It was."
Yor shyly glanced up at her husband. "Y-You were really good too, Loid! I was almost fooled by your acting performance, you know?" she laughed, bidding him goodnight and a restful sleep after the long day they've had.
Bond was the only one still with him, slowly moving close to Loid's legs and affectionately bumping his head against the limbs. Loid absentmindedly pat him, his thoughts still stuck on Yor's words.
"…Acting, huh?" he cast a wistful look at Yor's closed room, his fingers still tingling with warmth from Yor's blushing cheek, the way her eyes betrayed all those emotions inside her, like an open book he tried to read between the lines for.
Loid patted Bond one last time, before he retreated to his own room.
Once his head hit the pillow, Loid allowed his mind to wander back to the last act of the play.
Loidman and Yorticia had discovered their deeper affections for one another after a tragic misunderstanding between them. Two lonely souls who had never known many ways of affection in their lives, except the ways of war and combat. They had found not only companionship in their hearts, but also a genuine fondness for each-other's scars.
Yorticia had referenced an older moment between them, where Loidman had embraced her in a moment of vulnerability. The witch, so assured she was utterly unlovable, couldn't truly believe Loidman's affections for her hadn't been fleeting. An embrace and a kiss should've cast away any doubts Yor had had about his feelings.
Perhaps one day.
For now, Loid would sleep, tomorrow was a school day and Yor mentioned she would buy Anya those crunchy tea cakes she ate in Mr. Henderson0s office.
