It was middle of october and autum had well and truely taken hold. The castle ground and suronding landscape was a mix of red, orange, yellow and gold hues. The days were getting shorter and the nights longer and the temperature was dropping with every day.

It was a gloomy grey friday, the sky was full of dark clouds and the threat of rain was ever pressent.

Jane Potter looked up at the gloomy grey sky and sighed, she was not looking forward to today. Once again her sleep had been interrupted by a series of nightmares so she was exhausted.

Jane's pale ivory skin has lost its usual rosy undertone, her emerald eyes were duller than normal, having lost their sparkle, her raven black hair hung in a limp mess of frizzy tangles, instead of its usual glossy waves that bounced everytime she moved.

Jane looked miserable and just stirred the porridge that was in her bowl not eating a drop.

Ron looked at her worriedly, from her place on the otherside of the long table.

Jane who was already small and slender, had lost a great deal of weight over the summer, which wasnt unusual for she seemed to loose weight every summer afterall, however unlike usual she hadn't started gaining it again now that they were back at school.

Ron scowled at Jonathan who was sat next to him, his head stuck into a large leather bound book, as per usual. Ron jabbed him in the ribs with his elbow.

"WHAT" snapped Jonathan agrilly, rubbing his ribs. Ron quickly and destrictly pointed to Jane, who was still staring at the ceiling, her hand absently stirring her rapidly cooling porridge.

"You alright Jane?" Jonathan asked closing his book with a loud snap. Jane flinched at the noise and jerked her head to look at the two boys.

"Huh?" Jane muttered, blinking at them

"Ron seems to think your not right, at least thats why I think he jabbed me in the ribs" Jonathan explained

"Well you look exhausted, and you've been sat there for half an hour just staring around the room and stirring you porridge. I know theres a warming charm on the bowl but it only lasts for so long" Ron responded, scowling at Jonathan for puting him on the spot.

"I'm fine honest" Jane lied

"You're a terrible liar, you know that right" Ron replied.

"And you only say your fine after you've almost died"Jonathan added, concern pushing away his annoyance that he'd been stopped from reading his book. Jane sighed, she looked at them and saw Joanathan looking concerned and Ron looking worried. She knew they wouldnt give it a rest unless she told them something, but she couldn't tell them what was up. They would only worry more.

"I'm okay, just couldn't sleep well last night that's all…" Ron opened his mouth to respond and Jane quickly started talking again cutting him off "...and before you ask I wasn't feeling well last night" This time Jonathan opened heis mouth to talk "….and no I'm not going to Madam Pomfrey because its nothing, just….just girl stuff" Jane saw the boys blush as her explanation. Jane was proud that she'd been able to come up with something so easily and although they said she couldnt lie she semeed to have gotten away with it this time.

Ron picked up his back off the floor and started rummaging through it. After a minute he pulled out a small honeydukes chocolate bar.

"Here, I always keep a few spare bars in my bag, never know when Ginny's going to need cheering up. She gets very emotional when Tom visits her"

"Tom?" Jonathan asked looking puzzled as Jane reached over and accepted the choclate bar, touched by the gesture.

"Time Of Month, Jane thought of it apparently" replied Ron lowering his voice, so that oinly they could here him, he didn't want Jane to be embarrassed. Jane started giggling. If only Voldemort could here the conversation they were having. How would Tom Riddle like it if he knew his name was used as a slang for her and ginny's periods.

"Come on you can eat that on the way to class" Jonathan said changing the conversation to a more suitable topic for the great hall. "Everyone's leaving now and we have double defence against the dark arts this morning"

"You go ahead, I'm skipping lessons today. The mood I'm in I can't be arsed dealing with Umbitch?" Jane huffed not moving.

"Jane you can't skip lessons, what about your education, not to mention you'll get detention again and loose points an…"

"And I don't care" Jane snapped cutting off Jonathan's rant, she stood up, grabebd her bag and then flounced off.

"JANE" Jonathan yelled.

"Don't bother, she's not in the right frame off mind this morning. Best just let her calm down. I just hope she tells us whats going on and soon"

"You and me both" Joanthan agreed. Jane's attitude was really starting to irritate him.

Jane had spent the whole day hidden away in the common room. She felt rotten, she knew she shouldnt have flounced off like that and she defently shouldn't have blown up at Ron and Jomnathan like that and she really, really shouldnt have skipped lessons.

Jane was sprawled on her bed her head buried in one of the trashy romance novels Lavender Brown kept under her bed.

"You could have asked"? Lavender snapped as she crashed into the dorm room, followed by Pavarti Patil and Romilda Vane. Mildred Fairdale their other dormmate followed after them.

"You wearn't here" Jane snapped back

"No we were in class, where you should have been, and just because I wasn't here it dosen't mean you can steal my stuff" Lavender hissed

"I DIDN'T STEEL IT," yelled Jane

"WELL YOU DIDN'T ASK ME" Lavender snarled, Jane picked up the book and flung it at Lavender. Lavander ducked and the book bounced off the wall behind her head.

"YOU REALLY ARE A NUTTER POTTER" Lavender screamed. Jane was shaking with anger and she stormed into the bathroom attached to the dorm.

Jane stared at her reflection, tears pouring down her face. She couldn't believe she'd lost her temper like that. Jane looked at her reflection in horro and shame.

"You really are a nutter Potter" she whispered her voice breaking as fresh tears flowed down her face.

Jane sank to the bathroom floor and sobbed, her arms tight around her body. She was back at Hogwarts, she should be happy, but everything was wrong.

After a little while Jane pulled herself together and left the bathroom. Janestarted getting changed out of her school robes, Jane grabbed one of the jumpers Mrs Weasley had made her and puleld it over her head, she then found the cleanest pair of denim dungerees she owned and pulled them on, and stuffed her feet into her shoes. Next she dragged her brush through her hair and scowled at her reflection one more time before leaving the room.

"Umbridge was fumming she's take 25 points from Gryffindor and you have detention to ight, starting at 6pm so you'd best eat quickly"

"She'd have done that even if I was in class" Jane muttered, she was sat at the gryffindor table in the great hall. Ron was sat next to her on one side and Jonathon on the other. Fred and George sat opposite with Ginny. They were all concerned about Jane, each of them knew something was bothering her. She wasn't herself and hadn't been for weeks.

"Maybe but you shouldn't skip class" Joanthan said kindly

"Even Fred and George don't skip class" said Ginny

"Well we sometimes skip out of them," Fred said

"Yeah we used the snack boxes to skieve out of lessons so we can pull pranks or causes mayhem and mischief" george added

"But we never completly skip them" Fred finished

"Yeah well I couldn't be bothered to go" huffed Jane, she felt horrid, she already knew she was in the wrong and she didn't need them to point out how….how useless, worthless, problamatic and how much of a disappointment she was. Jane wrapped her anger around herself like a cloak, she refused to burst into tears in the middle of the great hall. Ron sensing her bad mood sighed and sent a look at the others after a unspoken conversation they all agreed to end the conversation. Jane wasn't in the mood to talk, they would have to wait for her to snap out of things herself.

Jane ate her stew in scilence, the others chattering away around her. Occasionally trying to pull her into the conversation. Jane simply smiled and nodded and tutted and shook her head when necessary.

At six o'clock she stood outside of Umbridge's office and knocked.

"Come in" came a sickly sweet voice, Jane resisted the urge to run away and walked into the small office. The cats on the wall started mewing as she entered. Umbridge smiled a sickly sweet smile and Jane faltered. Umbridge suddenly reminded her of Uncle Vernon right before a particularly nasty punishment.

"Now Miss Potter, do come in and take a seat" Umbridge said sweetly, indicating the seat on the otherside of her desk.

"Theres no desk" Jane tried to keep her voice steady, the desk where she would normally write lines was missing.

"That is because you're not writing lines tonight Miss Potter, I have another idea" smirked Umbridge her smile turning from innocent to vendictive and viscious. Jane tried to back away but before she knew what was happening, a jet of red light shot from Umbridge's wand and hit her in the chest. Everything went blank.

"Miss Potter?"

"Huh?"

"I said you could leave now, It's almost nine o'clock, you best hurry back to your dorm. Afterall you wouldn't want another detention for being out past curfew" sneered Umbridge sweetly.

Jane looked down at the sheet of parchment in front of her, it was filled with neatly written lines.

'I must remember not to skip classes' was written over and over again in her own neat handwriting. A quill and ink sat next to the parchment. Jane stood up, her body ached and protested, her head felt like it was full of cotton wool, her skin was cold and clammy. Jane felt sick to her stomach but had no idea why. After gathering her stuff, Jane left the office as fast as she could.

Jane staggered and swayed through the stone corridors, it was a good 15 minute walk from Umbriudge's office to the Gryffindor common room, and every step was torture. Jane felt terrible, she had to stop a few times, her body slumped against a wall as she doubled over and dry heaved half a dozen times.

Jane shivered violently as she slumped against the wall for the eleventh time, her vision faltered for a moment and her body lurched forward. Jane closed her eyes breathing heavily, her heart was pounding.

"Maybe I should turn round and go to the hospital wing?" Jane groaned as another round of nausea swept over her.

"MISS POTTER WHAT EVER DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING, OUT OF BED AT THIS TIME OF NIGHT" came the drawling voice of Professor Snape as he rounded the corner and proceed to swoop down the corridor towards her.

"I had detention with Umbridge" stammered Jane, as she tried to stand up straighter.

"I See" remarked Snape, he fixed his gaze on Potter and blanched. Something was very wrong. The young girl in front of him was as pale as a ghost, her eyes glossy and unfocused, a sheen of sweat shone on her pale ivory skin. She shouldn't be sweating it was cold.

"Are you alright Potter" inquired Snape,

"Perfectly Sir" replied Jane as she pushed herself off the wall and turned to look at him. The room suddenly tilted, she could here Snape's voice but had no idea what was said, everything was going quieter, everything was going black. As her sense dulled her body swayed and she stumbled.

"Potter?" Snape called as he watch the small girl sway and stumble, "JANE" he cried out as her body crumpled in front of him, he darted forward his arms out to catch her, but it was too late. With an almighty crack her head collided with the stone floor as her slim frame collapsed.

Snape turned her over and looked at Jane's pale face, scarlet red blood was running down a small cut on her head. Snape paused his heart pounding, Jane was barely drawing breath, her skin was ice cold but covered in sweat. He looked down wondering if he should pick her up or not. He then shook himself, Potter obviously needed medical treatment and there was no one else around. He felt incredibly awkward as he scooped the young girl in her arms. Snape was startled at how light she was, she was too light surely.

He shifted her slightly in her arms, ensuring she was secure and comfortable, before walking quickly and quietly towards to the hospital wing.

Jane's fever didn't break till the early hours of Sunday morning. She woke feeling drained, her body stiff and sore. It was as if she'd had a sudden and severe dose of flu.

Despite the early hour, the hospital wing was surprisingly busy.

As Jane regained consciousness she could hear muttering of several different conversations.

"Umbridge is now in aurora custody, Minister" came a soft female voice, Jane recognised it as Amelia Bone's.

"Very good" Fudge said sounding a little worn out, "Percy clear my schedule I will remain her for the readings"

"Yes sir" came Percy's reply

"Do the books have to be read" Mrs Weasley sobbed

"Yes if they were created using her magic, until the books are read and finished they will continue to drain her core, eventually it will kill her" came the sympathetic voice of Madam Pomfrey. Mrs Weasley sobbed harder and Jane heard Mr Weasley comfort her softly.

"Calm down Remus"

" CALM DOWN" growled Remus " that bitch assaults Jane, using dark magic to steal her memories to create those damn books and your telling me to calm down because I'm justifiably angry"

"Please don't wolf out of him" Jane groaned as she turned to look at her honorary uncle who was facing off against a very nervous looking professor Snape

Everyone turned to look at her and a large black dog bounded onto the bed and began licking her face

"Get off Snuffles" whined Jane. Jane sat up with difficulty, Sirius whined in dog form and retreated to the foot of her bed. Jane reached down and stroked his head reasuringly. It felt a little awkward petting him like this.

"Jane its good to see you awake, how do you feel" asked Dumbledore in his usual 'comforting grandfather' tone of voice

"I'm okay, at least I think I'm okay" replied Jane "What happened?" she added. The atmosphere in the room changed in a heartbeat.

"That my dear is a long story" came Dumbledore's somber reply.

By the time everything had been explained, Jane had been forcefeed a calming drought by Snape and was still fuming.

Umbridge had violated her in such a torturous way, she had tapt into Jane's own magical core and used dark magic to create seven books detailing the most important moments of her life, using Jane's own memories.

On top of that, the books had to be read or Jane would slowly become weaker and weaker until her eventual death.

"Jane?" Dumbledore asked worridly looking at the young girl with concern.

"When?"

"When what?"

"When will the books be read?" Jane asked

"The sooner the better" Madam Pomfrey chimed in

"The reading will begin today, after breakfast" Fudge spoke sharply, Sirius growled and Fudge blushed and looked down at his feet.

"Very well" Jane sighed. "I'm not looking forward to having my personal, private memories read aloud, but there maybe some good to come from it" she said trying to look past the negativity and find the positives

"Good?" Remus asked

"Well the books will tell the truth, so everyone will know what really happened during the tournament, how Cedric truely died, and that Voldemort is back. They will know who really betrayed my parents all those years ago. They will know the truth about second year, who was behind the attacks and who was really resposnible" Jane explained. Sirius laid his head on her lap and barked once in thank you. Remus smiled proudly and Mr and Mrs Weasley hugged her tightly.

Fudge and Percy looked at each other, both looked worried. Fudge blanched, he didn't want to believe that 'He Who Must Not Be Named' was back, he wanted to keep denying it, he wanted to bury his head in the sand forever, but he couldn't he would have to face the truth. Once eveyone knew that he had lied and not Potter he would loose his job. Percy looked at his parents, had he been daft to beleive the ministry and not Potter and his own family.
