How Lexie met Alex
A/N This is set in 2012 for Alex PRE SG S1, but is a more perky Lexie from S5E15 of Grey's just because I'm currently rewatching it. Apologies if that annoys you.
Seattle Grace Hospital, Washington - 2012
Lexie was revelling in the excitement of winning the intern competition, she was about to go into surgery with Dr Shepherd, but he'd sent her up for some final labs. She'd just come from the nurses station and Addie was still downstairs talking to Mark, oh Mark. She thought, daydreaming a little about kissing him again, even though she was still withholding sex until he told Derek about them, she was thinking maybe tonight after her surgery she would let him feel her up. Just for fun, you know, so she got some enjoyment out of their relationship. As her sneakers squeaked down the linoleum flooring of the hallway her medal bounced against her chest and livened her pride with a big smile. That was until she saw the face of the lab technician staring at her.
Alex was not having a good day, actually she wasn't having a good week but the perky doctor approaching her didn't know that. In all honesty she thought the girl was kind of cute, but it was a thought so far down and supressed that she thought nothing of it. She still had a headache from the hangover that was lingering from the night before. She hated this job with a passion, it wasn't like she had her whole life set out to be a researcher, she liked the science, but doing repeated labs for these careless doctors enraged her. She spent the whole day up on a floor with test tubes, away from her friends and her sister and her real life. The pull inside her mind to cheer herself kicked in two seconds before 'Miss Perky' showed up at her door, and she turned around to the photo of her family taped to the inside of the door, instant serotonin. Though her and Kara hadn't always seen eye to eye, she loved her more than anything, more than wine and that was saying something.
"Hi, I'm here to pick up some labs for Dr Shepherd." Lexie said, sidling right up the window and putting on her best smile for the lab technician as she leant against the wall of the lab. She was almost bouncing off the walls about her surgery, and getting to hold whatever the doomsday sucker was. It wasn't really about that, she didn't care if the prize was a sticker, she was succeeding at being a doctor. This was her dream coming true. Now all she needed was Mark to tell Derek about them, she wanted to go full steam ahead with him. It wasn't that she was getting ahead of herself it was just that when she looked up at him, she felt like she was meant to do it, like it was some kind of crazy fate which she certainly didn't believe in. Ok, maybe a little bit, her mother did die of the hiccups after all, how is that not fate.
"What's the patient's name?" Alex asked, not paying much attention to the intern's smiley face, and not really caring what was on her mind so she well full steam ahead with the job at hand. Usually the lab technicians were supposed to be the not-chatty people with a not-so good reputation for politeness, they were blunt and to the point. But then the smiley interns show up and you find yourself in a funk
"Err Jen Harmon." Lexie replied, almost beginning to hum to herself as she waited for her results.
"Ok, just give me a sec." Alex turned around and flicked through the heavy files to her left until discovering a certain Jen Harmon. She turned back to the window and the intern was looking completely the wrong way, trying to snoop down the hallway. Alex broke her little spell with a cough, a rather loud ominous clearing of the throat that made Lexie snap back to reality and face the lab technician, who she was thinking really looked like her in a certain light. But she dismissed the thought and took her file happily, sighing as she took off down the corridor. "Hey, um why are you so chirpy? If you don't mind me asking, most of the interns I see are either annoyed they missed out on something or are going off on one about something gory." Alex asked, pulling Lexie back from her fast-walking pace.
She came back and hovered over the window, her elbow leaning a bit too close to Alex's as she said. "Well you see I have this boyfriend..."
