How Lexie met Alex

A/N This is a part 2 I just decided on where Lexie is in the middle of her stress eating phase in S5E20.

Seattle Grace Hospital, Washington - 2012

It was around a month or two later that Lexie met Alex again, but instead of feeling perky and upbeat she had about two dozen snacks hidden in the many pockets of her lab coat. She was walking down the hallway quickly on the way to collect the labs before her big surgery with Mark and Derek. A six-hour surgery in which her boyfriend and her sister's fiancé and her boyfriend's best friend send angry looks towards each other and making quips over a patient's face whilst they continually ask her questions she can't answer without upsetting one or the other.

"How's the boyfriend?" Alex asked as Lexie approached her with a twinkie in hand and a heavy look on her face. She looked slightly chubbier but she assumed that perhaps the twinkie had something to do with that. Several scenarios went through Alex's mind as she waited for the young doctor's reply. Lexie munched heavily on her twinkie and made a face that looked like quiet desperation, then rested her elbows on the window ledge.

"Good. Really. It's just that he's not talking to his best friend, and they keep putting me in the middle. Did I mention that he's also my sister's fiancé?"

"No, you didn't. Any labs you need doing or did you just come up here for a chat?" Alex asked a little passive aggressively but with a sympathetic look in her eye. If the cute intern wanted to talk, she wasn't exactly opposed. Kara had spent the weekend eating ice cream on her couch and complaining about her new boss at Catco, so she was in a better mood than usual. Her sister having the almost instant effect of cheering her up about her boring job. So she leaned forwards and took the twinkie out of Lexie's hand, and geared up for some serious advice giving.

"No, I need labs for Dan Gates, I'm about to go to surgery and I'm not going to get through it. They'll just keep looking at me and I don't know what to say. Who's side do I back?" Lexie spilled out, getting flushed in the face and wishing she could magic herself to the future when Mark and Derek had made up and they were sitting at Meredith and Derek's wedding eating pieces of cake. Ooh cake sounded good to her at that moment.

"Hey, snap out of it." Alex started, clicking her fingers in the air to garner Lexie's attention, "you will get through this, you'll be fine. What's six hours? You'll be done in no time, at least you have a boyfriend. Is there any chance he could break up with you?" She said, really actually wanting to help this girl who seemed to have everything under control the obsessive stress eating aside.

"No, but-" Lexie interjected.

"Exactly, if he really loves you then it'll all work out." Alex said, trying to stay on the optimistic side of things, whilst also trying to be helpful. She didn't know what it was that made her feel like she had to help this girl but something deep in her gut was screaming out to her, and she knew it was stupid to ignore her gut.

"I mean I don't know about the love thing, we haven't been together that long." Lexie said, trying to put over her case and analyse what her and Mark were and where they were going. But she was only twenty-five, she didn't have to think about these things, to didn't have to think about everything getting so serious. The thought actually really freaked her out.

"Oh my god," Alex lunged forward and grabbed each side of Lexie's face. "Dr Grey, I'm just assuming, but you're a strong independent woman. SNAP OUT OF IT!" Then suddenly a lot more calmly, "here are your labs for Dr Sloan."
