The next morning, Katelyn woke up feeling extremely warm, and not in a good way. Her head hurt, she felt like she had a fever, and her stomach was churning like she had never felt before. She slowly turned over to see Caesar still asleep next to her. She started to shake him, but with every movement of her arm, she felt weaker. "Caesar, wake up, please! I don't feel good," she whined at him as he slowly woke up next to her. He sat upright upon noticing the state she was in. "What's wrong? You said you don't feel good?" "I don't. I feel weak, my head hurts, I feel warm, and I feel like I'm going to throw up." He held a hand to her forehead and said, "Oh no. I think you caught the pyrexia." "How did I catch it," Katelyn asked. Caesar quickly got up and started to pull on his clothes. "I don't know, but we don't need it to get any worse. Let me draw up a cold bath." He quickly went into the bathroom and turned on the water, filling the tub with cold water. After letting the water start to run, he went back out to the bedroom and lifted Katelyn from the bed, glad she was not in any clothes from the night before. "Come on, wrap your arms around me. I need to get you in a cold bath right away." He walked back into the bathroom with Katelyn in his arms and set her down on the side of the tub so that she could slide in. "I'm going to get one of the maids to help you today, but for now I need to keep your fever down. I also need to get the others because we need to kill the Netherwyrm. I can't lose you." "You won't," Katelyn replied, "You need to help the people in this city, including me. I'll be here when you get back. After I'm done soaking, I'm going to see if I can find a fever medicine of some sort. We have medicines in my world to cure fevers, they must have something in yours too." Caesar said, "Alright, I'll get one of the maids to help you dress. I love you." He placed a kiss on her warm forehead and turned, looking back at her once more as he left the room.

With worry plaguing his mind, Caesar rushed out to the kitchen area to find the others gathered around the kitchen. "Good morning. Where's Katelyn," Yulie asked Caesar, noticing his frazzled state. "She's sick. She caught the pyrexia. I need to go get one of the maids to help her today and then we need to head out. The Netherwyrm must be stopped." "You're right," Eldore said, "Go get one of the maids and then we will make haste." Caesar dashed back out of the room and found one of the maids, Rosa, who was an older lady who had been around for almost his whole life. When he told her about Katelyn, she said, "Of course my lord, I will look after the lady Katelyn while you are gone." "Thank you, Rosa," he said, "You have no idea how much this means to me." With that, the old woman dashed towards his room where Katelyn awaited. By the time that the maid found her, Katelyn had already managed to get out of the tub after washing her hair and was working on brushing the knots out of it. A small knock on the door made her jump before a kind voice said, "My lady, can I come in? I was sent to help you dress." Katelyn replied with a quick, "Come in." The door opened to reveal to Katelyn an older lady who looked like a grandmother figure of sorts. Rosa said, "I'm sorry I took so long. Lord Caesar filled me in on your condition. He asked me to stay by your side today to make sure you don't get any sicker." "It's okay. I know that the group will be leaving in a few minutes, but I was thinking about doing some research while Caesar is gone. Is there any way you can help me with my hair and choosing an outfit to wear? My body is just feeling very weak." "Of course, my lady. Let me go grab you an outfit and I will be right back." The maid rushed across the hall to where the past lady of the house's dresses were and chose one for the young woman, along with a corset and undergarments. She then went to Caesar's mother's jewelry box that still sat on her old dresser and pulled out a few pieces she thought would complement the outfit. Finally, she grabbed a few hair clips before heading back over to the young lord's room. She knocked before reentering the room and said, "I have brought an outfit I think you will like. I also chose a few jewelry pieces and hair clips. Would you like to get dressed first, or start with your hair?" Katelyn thought for a moment before saying, "Let me get dressed first. I don't like sitting in a robe very much."

The maid, who Katelyn learned was named Rosa, helped her into the corset, undergarments, and lovely day dress before starting to work on her hair. She helped to pull her hair up with a few small pieces curled around her face. She then placed the large clip in the center of the hair to give it extra support and pinned a few small remaining pieces in place. She placed a pair of earrings on Katelyn's ears, a necklace around her neck, and a bracelet on her arm before turning the young girl towards the mirror. Katelyn gasped at her reflection and said, "I look beautiful. Thank you." She turned towards the older woman in her chair, only for the older woman to say, "You remind me much of Caesar's mother when she was young, except for she had darker hair and eyes. She was truly a beauty. I'm glad that Caesar found someone much like her in personality to be by his side." "Tell me about her," Katelyn said, motioning for the older woman to sit on the couch across from her. "Caesar has not told me much." "Well, one thing I admired about her was her drive towards adventure, looking forward to whatever life would bring her, wherever it might be. I also admired how much she loved the Count. When the Count and Countess adopted Caesar, she wanted her son to be as adventurous as she was in her youth, and he was. But then she became ill and passed away, and with her, the light and life that was in this house died with it. The Count mourned her until the day he died and wanted nothing more than for his son to settle down and become the leader he wanted him to be. Caesar wanted adventure in his life, but also wanted to impress his father." "It seems like Caesar has become a great leader. I haven't seen a reason to doubt his abilities," Katelyn told her. "It is because he has become the leader his father wanted him to be, but he also has gotten a taste of adventure and continues to explore it. And even through the hard times, Caesar's father loved him. I don't know if you saw the statue on the dresser in the other room." "I did," Katelyn replied, nodding at her. "Well, the statue you saw on the dresser in the other room was a statue that the Count and Countess saw at a gallery long ago. It is called the Goddess of Lepanne. After the Countess' death, the Count made it his priority to obtain it. Caesar hand crafted a fake one that looked so much like it, and the firestones were dangerous to obtain. He really wanted to give his father peace with the one thing he truly wanted until he could find the real one. Your friends found the real one and brought it here, which caused the Count to kick Caesar out for his lie. The Count passed away before he could apologize to his son for his harsh treatment, which was very sad." "That is sad. I wish they could have made up before the Count passed away," Katelyn said. "The Count wrote the young Caesar a letter, apologizing for his treatment, but Caesar took his father's passing hard. Then he lost one of his friends and that caused him to fall into a depression. He worked hard day and night to take care of this city and tried not to let his hurt show. Then he met you. Now it seems like he has awoken for the first time in a long time, and he is happy. He was so worried telling me about you. I can tell that he has fallen in love with you, and it makes me happy for you both. I wish you both happiness." "Thank you, Rosa. I really hope that we can become close. Do you have any children of your own?" "No, I don't have any children. I never wanted any of my own. I spent much of my life looking after lord Caesar and that was enough for me." "Well, I know it sounds crazy, but neither of us have a mother figure in our lives. I was wondering if we had any questions, could we come to you for advice?" "Of course, my dear. I would love for you to come to me about anything." "Okay, well how about we get some lunch and then start to research this fever. I feel slightly better after the cold soak, but think I need to find a cure for fevers. The others may be the entire day defeating the Netherwyrm, and who is to say that its defeat stops the fever? There could also be lasting side effects that need to be treated." "Of course, my lady. Let us go to the kitchen and eat. Then, we can look through the library and lord Caesar's office bookshelves to find some medical texts." With that, the older woman gently pulled Katelyn from the chair and helped her to walk through the hallways as each step took a toll on her fever-ridden body. Katelyn had fevers in her past life, but she never felt as though her life was being sucked from her body every time she moved while she had one. It was as though a virus of some sort was attacking the muscles throughout her body as she tried to control them.

After making their way to the kitchen, Rosa set to making a quick stew. She set down the food in front of Katelyn and said, "I'm going to go get those books for you now." "No," Katelyn said, "Please stay. Eat with me. You made plenty of food." "Are you sure you want me to," Rosa asked her. "Yes. I really need the company right now." "Yes, my lady," Rosa said. "And please, call me Katelyn." "Yes, Katelyn," she replied with a wink. The older lady sat down and started to eat with Katelyn. As Katelyn ate, her arms began to shake a bit as the effects of the fever began to hit her with full force. Rosa looked at the girl with a sad look before asking, "Would you like me to help you?" Katelyn looked at her, slightly distraught that she was unable to even feed herself. Finally, she asked Rosa, "Can you please help me to eat?" "Of course, Katelyn. Let me help you." She began to feed Katelyn spoonfuls of the stew until the bowl was empty. "Would you like some more, my dear?" "No, thank you. That stew was amazing. You will have to teach me how to make it." "Thank you. When you are better, I can surely teach you a few recipes." "You can finish your food and then we can set to work." With that, Rosa finished the rest of her soup. After she was finished, she cleared the dishes from the table and came back. She asked Katelyn, "Are you up for a short walk?" Katelyn nodded and replied, "I may need some assistance. I hope that is alright." "It is perfectly fine my dear. Would you like me to grab one of the butlers to help you?" "No, if you could just hold my hand, I feel that will be all I need." Rosa nodded at Katelyn and said, "Of course my dear. Whatever you request." With that, she took Katelyn's hand in hers and helped her into a standing position. It took a moment for Katelyn to gather her bearings as she felt like her body weighed ten times more than usual. But, with Rosa's encouragement, she slowly began to walk and made it to the door before she felt that she needed a break. She leaned against the doorframe for a moment and said, "Okay, let us push onward." Rosa slowly started to walk with Katelyn, holding her hand in hers and offering her other arm as support for the young girl. She could see the struggle in the girls eyes as she continued to push onward on this small journey, but she also saw the determination written on her face. She knew with determination like that, the girl would be a great leader over Greede someday with lord Caesar by her side. She slowly walked along the hallway with Katelyn and helped her lean next to the doorway of the library when they made it. She opened the doors and slowly took the girls hands again as her legs fought against her and walked her towards one of the large desks in the library. Finally, when they made it, Rosa maneuvered Katelyn's body into the large chair and said, "You did it my dear. I must say, you have determination that many do not have when fighting the plague symptoms." "Thank you," she said, breathing deeply as her body finally got the chance to rest. "So, are there any books about the past plagues, medicinal herbs, and medical treatments used on past plague survivors?" "There are a few, let me go fetch them for you." Rosa went through the shelves of the library pulling any books that she could on medicine, plagues, and the specific plague that affected Greede in the past. After giving them to Katelyn, she started to look at the books with her. Some of the books were in Katelyn's native language, but others were in a language she could not decipher. "What language is this," Katelyn asked while looking at one of the books. "It is the language of the Ancients. Luckily I can read it and let you know if there is any information that is relevant." After reading for over an hour, they both looked at the many treatments used in the past, along with the medicines and herbs used. It seemed that almost every option for treating fevers in Greede had been used on the patients and none had worked against the fever. Katelyn shut the current book she was on and said, "I feel like this is all for nothing. I've learned a lot about horticulture, botany, and herbalism, but nothing that can help cure the plague. It seems like the only cure is the disappearance of the Netherwyrm." "Sweetheart, we've have been pushing ourselves to try to get impossible answers. Why don't you take it easy and hope that the others defeat it soon, hmm? If the fever doesn't go away, we can worry about finding a cure then." "Okay, Rosa, you are right. Let's not worry. Do you think you could teach me some of the ancient language while we wait?" "Of course, my dear. Let's get started," Rosa said, pulling out one of the books.

At the same time, Caesar, Yulie, Eldore, and Leonard had all reached the lowest level of the Bunker Lode Caverns. Eldore commented, "The beast will have a nest somewhere with access to the sky." A few miners affected by the plague were ahead, groaning in pain from the fever. "P-please, you have to stop this fog," the first miner commented. The second asked, "Are you here to kill the dragon? He's... up from here. Take the central elevator to get there. Please, take him out." The group rushed towards the central elevator and quickly boarded it, knowing thousands of lives were on the line. Leonard asked Caesar as they went up the elevator, "Are you ready for this?" "My dad never flinched, and neither will I." "That's the spirit, lad," Eldore said to him, patting him on the back. "Psst, when did Caesar get so serious," Yulie whispered to Leonard. "Just when he needed to. He is worried about Katelyn, his people, Greede. It's about time we taught that "deathless monster" how to die." As they walked into the cave where the dragon's hideout was, the group flinched back as the Netherwyrm flew down into the opening from above, landing in front of them with a loud roar. "Nasty little thing, ain't it," Caesar commented. Yulie yelled out as the Netherwyrm began its first attack, "Get ready!"

The group fought tooth and nail against the Netherwyrm before Caesar was finally given an opening to stab the Netherwyrm in the middle of its head armor. But, when he stabbed, the lance barely sunk into the armor. "Crap, note to self... stab... harder!" The Netherwyrm shook its mighty head. Caesar and the lance, went flying across the room. Leonard called on his transformation as Yulie yelled out, "Caesar!" Leonard caught Caesar in the palm of the White Knights hand. "Nice catch, Leonard," Caesar yelled as Leonard placed him on his shoulder. The dragon came charging at the White Knight as Leonard yelled out, "Caesar! Now!" "Second time's the charm!" With that, Caesar jumped off the White Knight's shoulder and slammed the lance down into the Netherwyrm's head. Caesar did a backflip and landed on the ground as the Netherwyrm's armor cracked open and emitted a bright light, which was then absorbed by the lance. As the lance lowered to the ground, the Retrospecticon tied on Eldore's waist opened and hovered in midair, taking Caesar with it. At the same time at Dridall Manor, Katelyn began to glow in front of Rosa, and cried out as she did not know what was happening. Then, she was beside Caesar in what looked to be a vision of some sort. In front of them stood Count Drisdall, who turned to face them both when they appeared. "Dad?" "Caesar, you did it, son! I knew you would keep Greede safe." Caesar started to approach his dad and said, "Hey... I've got to now that I'm the guy in charge." "You have become a greater man than I ever was, Caesar. I never managed to finish the dragon off. I am so proud of you. I have a gift for you." The Count held up a glowing sphere as Caesar asked, "What's this?" "It's called the Dragonroost Insignia. House Drisdall has passed it down for generations. I have faith you find a good use for it. Caesar... take care of your friends. They are you greatest treasure and will give you strength in the hardest of times, when Greede, and our people, need you most." "Don't worry, dad. I won't let you down." "Also, Caesar, one last thing before I let you go. You have found a great woman to stand beside you. I have been watching from the other side, along with your mother. We are both proud of the man you have become. Hold onto her tight, and never let her go." As Count Drisdall said those words, Katelyn came up and leaned against Caesar's arm, grasping onto his hand. "Katelyn, I am glad that I get to meet you one time. Stand beside my son and help him to be the leader that Greede needs. And know, I am proud to call you daughter. Know that Caesar's mother and I are watching from the other side and will be waiting to see you both again one day." "Thank you, Count Drisdall, or should I say father," she said, holding out her hand to grasp his and shake it. "Take care, the both of you," he said as they both started to glow. With that, they both ended up in the Bunker Lode Caverns with their friends.

After talking to the group about the vision of Count Drisdall and the insignia they acquired, the group headed out of the Bunker Lode Caverns and back to the Manor. Upon arrival, Rosa came running out shouting, "Lady Katelyn! I am so glad that you are alright. You gave me quite the scare with how you started glowing and disappeared." "I'm alright, Rosa, and feeling so much better now. Has the pyrexia stopped?" "Yes, my lady. It has. Everyone with the fever is cured." "And I am happy to say, it will never happen again." She looked over to Caesar who was in conversation with his steward about how he would stay with the group for a little while longer. Just as he was telling the steward, a man came running up in a hurry, panting and out of breath. "Sir! There's been a battle in the Lagnish Desert, in Albana! Balandor's royal army has been rerouted by the Yshrenian forces! Albana has surrendered and is now under Yshrenian occupation." "What," Leonard asked. "Well, where is the royal army right now," Caesar asked. "We've lost all contact with Balandor. What little news we receive now comes with snippets and rumors." "Not good," Caesar said. "Let me go grab my things and change," Katelyn said, rushing into the manor to change into armor and grab her sword, pack, and potions. "Better see what's going on in the Lagnish Desert. If we're headed to Balandor, we'll have to pass through either way." With that, the group dispersed to quickly replenish their supplies before they would meet at the train station to leave.
