Chapter 1: A Special Night

It was a peaceful evening in Pixie Hollow. All the fairies were fast asleep. However, that changed when a baby's laugh was heard by the entire population of Pixie Hollow. All the fairies fluttered to the sky and saw a yellow flower float upside down. Vidia, a fast-flying fairy fluttered along with the flower, carefully guiding the flower to the tree of pixie dust.

Once all the fairies gathered around the tree, Queen Clarion stood before the yellow flower. Terrance, one of the fairies who took care of pixie dust rations for all the fairies, lavished some pixie dust on the flower. The yellow flower transformed into a male fairy. He wore a pair of yellow pants and a yellow shirt. He had his hair tied back into a ponytail and a tiny beard. His hair and beard were both a light yellow, with a pinch of red. He turned and looked at Queen Clarion and Terrance. However, both fairies were blurry through his vision.

"Hello," all the fairies said in unison.

He jumped a little because everyone looked like such a blur to him and he could only hear their voices.

"Is everything ok, child," asked Queen Clarion, studying him with concern.

"I cannot see. Everything is blurry and this bright light is bothering my eyes."

Queen Clarion dimmed the lights and held out her hand to him, gently lifting him up and helping him gain his footing.

"Now, let's see about your wings. I am going to hoist you in the air, and then I will catch you. Don't worry about trying to fly right now," said Queen Clarion.

She did just this and offered her arm to him after he came back from his little flight.

"That was fun. What is going to happen now?" he asked eagerly.

"I'm going to guide you through the circle of talent symbols. Whichever symbol glows shall be your talent."

"What do they look like? They are blurry to me."

"There is a hammer for the tinker fairies. An egg for the animal fairies. A whirlwind for the fast-flying fairies. A light for the light fairies. A flower for the garden fairies. A bubble for the water fairies. A snowflake for the winter fairies…"

She continued describing the symbols. Suddenly, the egg symbol glowed. The new fairy had to shut his eyes for a second. Queen Clarion picked up the egg and gave it to him to feel.

"So, I am an animal fairy?"

"Yes. I believe that talent fits you."

The fairy's eyes grew in wonderment.

"Come animal fairies. Meet the newest member of your talent group. His name is Fox," declared Queen Clarion.

All the animal fairies came over to meet Fox and introduced themselves to him. Fawn placed her hand in his, so he could identify her by touch and sound.

"Hello Fox. I'm Fawn and I am going to be your mentor."

"Hi. I can't see you very well and I feel out of place."

"Honey, it's ok. We all feel out of place when we first arrive in Pixie Hollow. My friend Tinkerbell felt out of place big time when she first arrived. Tomorrow, I will introduce her to you, along with my other friends. Also, I am sure she can make you a pair of glasses to help you see things better."

Queen Clarion fluttered over to Fawn and Fox.

"Fox, it's Queen Clarion," she explained holding her hand out for him to feel. "We were not expecting you till later. You see, the baby boy that laughed who brought you here to Pixie Hollow was born early. We check up on families who are expecting children on the Mainland. I'm telling you this because usually the new fairy's house is already built. Yours is a work-in-progress. Fawn, may he stay with you for a night or two?"

"I will try not to do much trouble. I will sleep in a separate room, even," said Fox.

"Honey don't worry. You are more than welcome to stay with me. We will all make you feel welcome," Fawn reassured him.

Shortly after Fox's ceremony, Fawn fluttered along with Fox. Fox held his hand on her shoulder. Once they got to her house, Fawn made her new friend a cup of tea and later helped him into bed. While Fox was asleep, Fawn had Terrance keep an eye on him, while she went to ask Tinkerbell to make him a pair of glasses for the next day.
