Chapter 2: Three Surprises and Some New Friends
The next morning, Fawn made it a point to wake up before Fox. She and Tink had worked together last to make him some orange outfits. This is because orange was the color for animal fairies. Tink had also made him a pair of glasses. They were like Bobbles' pair of glasses. The key differences were a heavier frame and thicker lenses made from water droplets. The frame was made from twine and a little bit of bark.
From afar, Fawn saw Tink, Vidia, Iridessa, Silvermist, Zarina, and Rosetta. The girls were carrying his clothes and glasses. Fawn waved for the fairies to land in front of her.
"Here are his clothes," said Iridessa.
"Where is the new hot shot?" asked Vidia.
"Be nice, Vidia," Tink gently reminded her.
"I'm just teasing. I want to make Fox feel as welcome as the next fairy," said Vidia. "To be honest though, I have never encountered anyone with a severe loss of visison."
"None of us have, sweetie," said Rosetta. "It is a new experience for us all."
"I have observed humans with visual impairments on the Mainland. Some walk with large dogs with a harness and some with a long cane painted white with a red bottom and jumbo tip. Maybe I can tinker a cane for him," Tink said.
The girls heard a yawn and Fawn went inside to get Fox.
"Good morning darling. My friends and your friends-to-be are here. We also have some surprises for you," Fawn said, encouraging her friend.
"Wonderful. But aren't you going to teach me animal fairy stuff?"
"Yes, I am. But this is more important now."
Fawn held out her arm and Fox walked with her to the other fairies.
Each fairy introduced themselves one at a time to Fox and held out their hand to give him tactile and auditory ways of identifying each fairy. Each stated their name and talent. After introductions, Fox received his clothes and glasses. He put on his glasses, and he saw quite literally, a clearer picture of his new friends. Fawn guided him back to her house and he put on his orange outfit in his room. He came out looking quite happy.
"Honey, you look handsome," said Fawn.
"Thank you, Fawn," returned Fox.
Fox went out to greet his new friends dressed in his nice outfit, along with Fawn. All the fairies made him feel extremely special by heaping many compliments such as, "How cute" and "My darling Fox, how handsome and dashing."
Vidia walked up to Fox and said to him, "Totally handsome there, hot shot."
Fox grinned excitedly and said he loved his new clothes and glasses.
"I like my nickname too, Vidia," said Fox. "You girls know how to make a boy feel special."
"Honey, you have one more gift," said Fawn. "Earl, you can come out of the trees now."
Fox was so surprised when he saw a squirrel come down a tree, carrying a nut.
"We got you an emotional support animal. We thought it was a great idea because you are an animal fairy now, and I have observed humans with many disabilities have an emotional support animal to help them cope with their disability," explained Tinkerbell.
"Thanks, girls," said Fox.
"Honey, I hate to break up this fun welcome party, but we need to eat breakfast and then start your training," said Fawn, holding out her arm.
"All right! I am so excited to work with animals!" Fox said gleefully. "See you later girls."
"Goodbye handsome," Tink and her friends said in unison, blowing him kisses.
