It occurs to Lila that she'd never seen Diego drunk before. High on mind-altering intramuscular sedatives from the mental hospital, yes. But not drunk.
Just a few hours ago he told her that he chooses her, with his pants pooled around his ankles. He tossed her the beaded bracelet he made in the Dallas nut house, which she now proudly wore on her wrist again. With a bit of prompting, he had even introduced her to his infamous father. They were officially together again, with just days left to spend together. And he had decided to spend them at the wedding with her instead of running off with Klaus and his father trying to solve the unsolvable.
Lila had allowed herself one glass of champagne - surely still within safe limits? Not that it really mattered, given that the world was ending imminently and this pregnancy along with it. But Diego had returned from the bachelor party already pleasantly tipsy - and became increasingly endearing with each tequila shot he took tonight.
Drunk Diego was cuddly and incredibly affectionate. It may be the combination of their newly confirmed relationship status plus all the tequila, but he was definitely feeling all loved up tonight. He held her hand like a lovestruck teenager as they walked to their table and pulled her chair closer next to his. He wound his arms possesively around her waist when they were slow dancing. He rested his head against hers and nuzzled into her as they sat next to each other on the dance floor. And as they sat outside under the angry, red, apocalyptic sky, and she lamented the lost opportunity to fail at motherhood, he kissed her cheek and whispered "I doubt that".
The drunk Hargreeves siblings were all gathered together in the courtyard of the Hotel Obsidian. A rare moment of commaraderie, perhaps enabled by all the liquor. The crackling sounds of the Kugelblitz devouring their surroundings aside, it was a lovely night for it. They were happily bickering away over New new Ben and Klaus' arrival, when Diego draped his arm lazily around her waist. His hand settled high on her thigh in her lap and he fidgeted with the edge of her sequined dress. It may have been innocent enough a gesture at first, but as the three remaining fingers on his left hand slipped surreptitiously under the seam, their course revealed less-than-innocent intentions.
"Getting a little handsy, are we?" Lila turned to whisper in his ear. "This is a family event, I'll have you know."
Diego chuckled warmly beside her and threw back another tequila shot with his other hand. His family seemed to be preoccupied enough not to notice their private moment. He let his hand slip further up her thigh under her dress and she could hardly stop the girlish giggle escaping as she slapped away his hand.
"S'not my fault." He whispered back with smirk. "I blame the tequila. And that dress."
Beside them, Five was wretching as he fell forward. The group erupted in laughter.
"Oh, I think I'm gonna hurl-... actually-... I think I'm hungry. See you guys later, I'm gonna hit the buffet."
Lila saw their chance at an easy retreat and took it.
"Maybe we should call it a night too."
She pulls herself up and feels Diego follow her with no hesitation. He's a little unsteady on the first few steps but catches up quickly and holds onto both her shoulders as they head towards the exit, ignoring his siblings' shouts of protest and mocking behind them.
Once they re-enter the lobby, Lila promptly pulls Diego by the collar into the nearest stairwell. He was pressed up against her as soon the doors swung closed.
"Finally," His breath was hot against her neck. "A moment alone."
They giggled like teenagers as he backed her up against the banister, kissing her deeply. She let her head drop back against the wall as he placed open-mouthed kisses down her neck. After a few moments of necking, Diego lifted Lila up by her waist and propped her up on the railing of the stairs, her legs wrapping around his waist automatically. Things were escalating fast, she could feel him grow harder against her.
"Lila-" He slurred her name as she ground against his hips.
"Like that, huh, big boy?" She panted out teasingly. He hummed happily in response.
When she reached down between them to tug at the fly of his pants, his hands caught hers.
"Nuh-uh-uh, not so fast."
She cocked an eyebrow.
"I've been thinking about doing this-" He unwound her legs from his waist and placed them back down on the floor, lowering down between them. "-since I saw you step out the elevator in that dress."
He kneeled between her legs and slowly caressed her calves, leaving sloppy kisses on the inside of her knee ascending up her thigh. He slid the hem of her dress up along his hands' ascent, until it was bunched up at her waist. Lila lifted her hips slightly to allow him to drag her underwear off. He looked up at her with searing eye contact as he hooked his finger under the waistband and slid them down her legs achingly slowly. Her breath was coming out embarassingly hard. Beneath her Diego hummed happily with a wide smile on his face as he balled her lacy black panties in his fist. He was murmuring something against her thigh along the lines of 'So wet', and then delved into her center without preamble.
"Oh God-" Lila groaned out. She hooked one leg over Diego's shoulder and arched her back against the wall behind her. He was immersed in his pursuit, alternating luxuriant licks to her opening with fervent kisses to her clit. His pace was urgent, but his movements were somehow still unrushed and thorough.
She let herself lean back and enjoy the sensations of her lover's kisses for a long while. Her heavy breathing and occasional moans echoed off the walls of the stairwell.
Eventually she craved a different angle, so she propped herself back up against the banister. From this vantage point she could drape her other leg over Diego's shoulder and hold her self up against the wall, leaning further back.
"Oh fuck, Diego, fu-" Her hips spasmed and jerked into his face, so his hands came up to hold onto her hips. "Sorry." She panted out. He gave a deep hum in response, which only enhanced the sensations and set off a fit of happy giggles erupting from her chest. Her climax was approaching fast and Diego seemed intent on completing his task. Her eyelids were starting to flutter and her ears ringing. "Fu-u-"
Behind them the door swung open. Her head shot up just in time to see the Luther entering the doorway. His eyes were wide with terror. Before any words could be spoken, he turned and rushed out. She could hear him yell out an apology and run off. If Diego heard or noticed any of this however he gave no indication and took no pause.
A moment later Lila's head hit the brick wall as she came with startling intensity.
"Your brother walked in on us when we were in the stairwell, by the way."
They'd moved upstairs to his hotel room and were now lying tangled up in the sheets of his twin-sized bed. She's twirling her finger languidly over the smooth skin of his chest, feeling stupidly happy.
Diego craned his neck with a confused frown. "Which brother?"
She giggled. "I thought you hadn't noticed."
"I was a little distracted." He relented with a wide smile. He kissed the top of her head.
Lila thought that she had never felt this happy. Happy enough to let the words stupidly bubble out of her mouth without a thought. "I wish we had more time."
She could feel Diego's posture stiffen in her arms the moment she said it.
"You said that-"
"I know what I said."
She could hear the gears turning in his head. It's best not to let him think that hard for too long. Lila sighed deeply and spoke slowly and quietly. "I meant it. I still mean it."
"We should be figuring out a way-" He was quickly becoming more agitated and starting to get up.
"Diego-"
"No, I-I-... we shouldn't be wasting time. We could still fight, I could still s-save you and the baby, we co-"
"Diego." She put both hands on his shoulders. He seemed to calm down a little with the contact but sighed heavily and ran both hands over his face.
"That's not what I was trying to say."
She cupped his face gently in her hands and he stopped fidgeting.
"I'm trying to say that... I'm really happy right now. You make me so fucking happy." Tears were starting to prickle her eyes. "I'm glad you didn't go off with Klaus and I'm glad we went to the wedding. I want to spent whatever time we have left just like this - together. I just wish... that we had more of it."
He didn't answer her immediately. Eventually he released a shaky breath and let his forehead drop against hers. She felt his hand slip over her body and rest on her lower abdomen. She too released a breath she didn't realise she was holding.
After a few moments, he kissed her again with passion she could hardly bear. They fell back onto the bed together and he whispered against her mouth "I love you, I love you." She could feel hot tears start to fall between their faces - was it coming from her or him?
"I love you too." She echoed, like a mantra. "I fucking love you."
After several moments of heated embrace, he rolled over on top of her. Her hands ran through his hair. He dragged his hands slowly up along her sides and caressed her chest. His head dipped down and he sucked on her breast, his beard tickling her skin there. She locked her legs around his hips and ground into him. He was getting hard again and she bucked against him.
His hands pushed her arms up above her head. His movements were firm and strong, but his kisses were tender. He slipped into her easily and they moaned loudly in unison.
"I love you."
"I love you." They echoed over and over.
For a long time they moved together until Lila's body was humming in anticipation over the languid tempo of their lovemaking.
She gripped his hips firmly in her legs and flipped them over. Diego grunted, a wild look flashing in his eyes. Her name on his lips, he held her face in his hands and kissed her soundly. "Oh God-" She whimpered, as he bit on her lip and pulled.
Lila sat up in his lap and rode him with newfound vigour, her arms straight out and propped onto Diego's shoulders. Their romance had really been a whirlwind one and they had only been together like this for a short time, but she knew that he loved when she took control like this. Perhaps she could explore the reasons behind that another time - if they had the chance to. She tried not to let that thought linger too long.
Beneath her, he groped at her hips, her ass, her thighs. His eyes closed tightly as he let her exercise control over the pace and movements. His hips rolled against hers, following her lead. She let her hands wander over his chest, his shoulders, his arms, then to her neck and face. He grasped her wrists and held them behind her back easily with one hand, watching with revenance as she moved on top of him.
Another climax was quickly approaching for Lila, she could feel it building inside of her. She increased the pace of her bouncing and watched as Diego's abdominal muscles tightened in response beneath her.
"I'm close." She whispered.
"Me too."
She untangled her hand from his grip and reached back to fondle him behind her back. Diego groaned and threw his head back. His jaw dropped and his mouth hung open in a stupid, happy expression. She couldn't resist bending down to kiss him wantonly, open-mouthed.
As she fell over the edge, Diego let go at the same time and they came together, trembling. For several moments as they were coming down she continued to rotate her hips, until she slowly stilled their movements and let herself relax on top of him. Still intimately connected, they kissed for a long time. She didn't want to pull away - maybe ever - but eventually she rolled over to the side and let him cover them with a sheet, settling into his embrace.
They didn't speak any words. Maybe they'd said enough. Diego kissed her forehead and lingered with his lips against her skin. She felt when his breathing slowed and evened out. He fell asleep with his face in her hair, his arms around her body.
Lila allowed herself to bask in the glow of the post-coital hum without thinking too hard. Everything was meeting a terrifying end outside - but in this bed she was safe and warm in the arms of her lover, and she could ignore the ticking clock of the apocolypse for just a moment.
Her hand wandered down to her lower abdomen of its own accord. So early in her pregnancy her stomach was flat and there was no external indication of the life growing inside. She couldn't let herself think about it too hard or she would start to mourn it. But perhaps she could let herself get lost in the fantasy of her stomach swelling; of Diego bending down to kiss her belly and whisper to their baby in Spanish. Of navigating and stumbling through parenthood with the man she loved, the only man who had ever understood her. Of a baby with coffee coloured skin and glossy black curls and dimples, reaching out to tug on her hair.
She fell asleep in the arms of her boyfriend and the father of her child- fitful sleep, coloured with dreams of a life they could never have. Happy and content - if only for the moment.
