Prologue - The Mysterious Library and the Uncommon Librarian

Now, the weather. Last night's heavy rain is forecast to continue for about a full week.

The observatory has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and may increase to a red alert, it is recommended that all people stay indoors and only go out in case of an emergency, either to buy food or medicine. Everyone should take full care when leaving the house in this heavy rain.

In the town of Kuoh, in a sparsely populated area, there is a certain library with lights on and a wooden sign on one of the many glass windows with the writing "Open". This is quite unusual, since it is quite late at night and all the people are probably already asleep, watching television or playing computer games. Also, this rainy weather surely makes some people want to sleep with the sound of rain.

Inside the library.

You can see a ton of books spread across several shelves, wooden stairs that led to a second floor. It was a fairly large library, but humble, with nothing too extremely luxurious. The sound of books being placed on the shelves was heard along with the soothing sound of rain.

"What a heavy rain. I imagine there won't be any customers again..."

A young man who appeared to be no older than 18 was arranging some books near his wooden counter, which is used to serve all customers looking for books.

The young man had short, spiky brown hair with two short locks of hair behind his head and light brown eyes. The young man was wearing a black blazer over a long-sleeved white shirt with black highlights with a black ribbon on the collar, matching black pants and brown shoes.

This young man is the librarian of this library. His name is Hyoudou Issei, a boy who dropped out of school in pursuit of fulfilling his great dream of opening a library in Kuoh.

"Oh, is that you again?" Issei muttered as he looked at the black cat that was sleeping on one of the book shelves on the second floor that was visible. "Came in through the window again, eh." Issei would leave the second floor window half open. This way, whenever the cat wanted to get in, it only needed to use little force to make the window turn, and thus enter the library.

It was a very small window, so there was no way people would try to get in to steal from him, although there was nothing to steal except books, and he didn't think thieves would waste their time going after ordinary books.

Issei took a towel and put it on a wooden "hook" that was near the front door. He also placed an umbrella propped up on the wall.

"But what if someone forgot to bring an umbrella and needs a shelter?" He said with a smile on his face.

'Huh, I'm such a nice guy,' he thought. 'I hope this small gesture of kindness and love can bring me some income... no. Gratitude from the customers... Of course, if they are moved by my kindness and hospitality and maybe rent or buy some of my books. That would be fantastic!'

The moon emitted a very beautiful big blue/white glow, which along with the rain, showed a shimmering sight to anyone who saw it.

"Get her!"

"Don't let her get away!"

Some devils were running after a girl, however, this was no ordinary girl.

"You guys are really annoying ~ Nya," said the girl's seductive voice in great annoyance.

The girl stopped running, forcing her pursuers to do the same. There were four people, more specifically four devils who were after her. The girl was a little bruised due to the fact that she had been escaping for a long time from several High Class devils, with one of them using a sword. The drops of rainwater were falling on her face.

Kuroka is a beautiful young woman with a voluptuous figure, long black hair with split bangs and golden brown eyes with cat pupils. The costume she is currently wearing is a black kimono, a yellow obi, a set of gold beads, and an ornate headband. The kimono has a red interior and is open at the shoulders, giving a view of her large breasts. On her head was a pair of black cat ears, and she also had two black tails coming out.

The leader of the devils standing behind her began to speak.

"Kuroka, SS class fugitive, you are under arrest for the act of killing your own master by losing control of your powers. I recommend that you stop running away and come with us in a quiet manner, or we will be forced to use force against you."

When he said this, the other three devils began to surround Kuroka on all sides.

"It is a pity that I will not be able to fulfill that request ~ Nya," she said. 'I don't have enough energy for a forcing teleportation magic for a long distance...' She thought as she prepared herself.

"Then we have no choice but to use force."

With that, the four devils rushed towards her, intending to immobilize her.

However, as soon as they got close to her, a dark mist began to envelop her body, causing them to quickly pull away. Unfortunately not everyone managed to retreat in time, one devil who was slower than the rest of the group ended up being caught in Kuroka's poisonous mist.

Kuroka didn't miss this chance as she raised her hands to the devil who was caught by her poisonous mist. A concentrated blast of energy was shot from her hands towards the devil who couldn't dodge it in time, and as soon as the concentrated blast of energy hit his face, a small explosion was caused.

Blood gushed out everywhere as the devil's body fell sharply to the ground, missing its head...

"Well, it looks like your friend's friend was left without his head ~Nya." She commented calmly, showing no remorse for what she just did.

"You bastard!"

"You'll pay for this!"

The leader of the devils looked at her with great killing intent. "Forget about immobilizing her, let's go at her with killing intent."

"Good luck with that ~Nya," she commented as she struck a fighting pose. "Touki." As soon as she said that, an aura of ki covered her entire body, significantly increasing her strength, defense and speed.

The first devil approached her with devil energy in his hands, however, just as he was going to grab her face, Kuroka dodged at the last second, and right after that, she punched the devil's face with her ki-covered hands as hard as she could, sending the devil flying through the extremely wet ground because of the rain.

"I got you!" Exclaimed a devil as he gave a vertical slash with his sword towards Kuroka.

However, she dodged the blow and snuck behind the attacking one quickly and nimbly, and then she put both her hands on the devil's head, he had no time to do anything as she broke his neck with great force, causing his neck to turn abnormally in a strange direction, and then his body fell to the ground dead.

"Die!" A great demon energy was thrown by the leader of the devils towards her, hitting her with a great explosion.

The devil began to celebrate, thinking that he had caught her. If anything happened, he would just tell his superiors that she fought back by killing some devils and he had no choice but to kill her. Maybe he would earn a promotion to supreme class devil for the fact that he had managed to kill an SS class fugitive.

He didn't mind the death of some of them. He would at least make use of their death in an efficient manner. And maybe, just maybe, the leader of the devils, Sirzechs Lucifer, would give him a reward for everything he had done so far, counting on the fact that he had killed an SS-class fugitive.

Perhaps he could ask for the hand of the Gremory princess...

However...

"!" The man's belly was pierced completely.

When he looked down, he saw hands with sharp black nails coming out from there, and then a seductive voice whispered in his ear.

"That last attack hurt ~Nya."

The devil looked at Kuroka and saw that she had a smile on her face. He tried to say something like "damn Nekoshou," however, he couldn't pronounce anything. The man just fell to the ground when she pushed his back, causing him to fall face first onto the wet ground.

"Urgh." Kuroka began to wipe the blood on her hands. 'Geez, it's finally over. I seem to have sustained some damage, although it's not really much.'

"Good thing it's raining..." Thanks to that, it was fairly easy to get rid of most of the blood on her clothes. 'I don't have the energy to fight another group of devils again, if I don't find a hiding place quickly, I'll be in danger!' She thought as she prepared to teleport.

She couldn't go very long with the energy she had, but she just needs a little time.

...

After she teleported away, Kuroka was walking slowly. She must hide soon, or else she would be in big trouble when the devils found her.

No matter where she looked, everything was closed and dark. It was then that she saw an establishment with lights on with a sign that read "Open".

"A bookstore?" Kuroka looked at the place as she began to think of various things. 'Of all the stores, only one bookstore is still open in this storm. Is that a coincidence... or a trap?'

She held her kimono tightly. 'It doesn't matter... I need as much time as possible to hide!'

"Let's just go inside first ~Nya,' she muttered as she advanced to the door of the bookstore.

As soon as she opened the door, a small bell that stood on top rang, signaling her entrance. Kuroka began to advance calmly through the place until her eyes went to the person sitting at the counter. He was a young man with brown hair and eyes, he was reading a book when he noticed her arrival.

'Is he the owner of this place?' Kuroka thought suspiciously, since he seemed quite young.

"Welcome," the man said. At that moment, Kuroka looked straight into his eyes. 'I have been waiting for you. A pretty customer who braved this rain," he spoke mysteriously.

'Oh... No matter how you look at it, this customer is full of stories. Hmph, I need to give it all I've got with my salesman therapy techniques!' The man thought with great animation.

"I have a towel there by the door. Would you like to dry yourself off and warm up first?"

When he said this, Kuroka quickly saw the towel hanging on a wooden hook. She took the towel as she walked over to him and dried herself at the same time.

'Waiting for me? And he has prepared what I need, an ordinary librarian would not be so well prepared...' Were Kuroka's thoughts. 'This can't be a coincidence, this vendor must know something!'

"Thanks... you can keep the heater, the towel is enough for me ~Nya."

'Nya?' The man's eyes widened when she said that.

'Calm down, Issei. It's probably just some kind of tic she has, let's ignore that for now.' He mentally prepared himself in case she said that more often.

'Which faction is he part of? Devils? Angels? Fallen angels? Or maybe part of a rebel organization?' Kuroka thought of several things, but he had no energy that gave him away from being from any of these major factions, besides, he's talking normally to her.

'Anyway, this guy... He's definitely not a normal bookstore owner!' She thought as she swore she saw a crimson aura around him.

"Anyway, you said you were waiting for me ~Nya?" Kuroka asked with the intention of finding out something about him.

The man raised his hands, making her see that he was wearing a pair of white gloves. "Of course. Fate can be so magical the times two strangers have met. You seem to be in a tricky situation."

1. Suggestion!

[Saying that someone is in trouble has no meaning by itself. It's just a simple suggestion].

"Yes..." Kuroka agreed as her face showed a small drop of sweat.

[But when the client connects this to their situation and starts mumbling, it will be Hyoudou Issei's chance to heal the client's soul and deepen their relationship!]

"In fact I'm having a crazy problem..." She said. 'I can't tell if this guy is a friend or enemy at this point. I can also use this chance to prove his identity or purpose.'

The man started pouring some tea into a cup as he began to speak.

"[Problem] you say. If my guess is correct, is it something to do with relationships?"

2. Speak vaguely!

[A common trick used by psychic liars, and Hyoudou Issei. Talk should be relatively "vague." This will leave some room for the person and you!]

'What is he saying...? He doesn't seem to be trying to confuse me, so he already knows?' Kuroka thought with wide eyes. Is it possible that he knows about her and Shirone? Kuroka began to get quite defensive around him.

"Anyway, why don't you sit down first?" He said as he pulled out the chair he was sitting in and had her sit down.

'A stranger already knew about the fact that I was an SS class runaway... Regarding time, he couldn't have heard that after it happened, since it was recently! Unless... he was controlling everything from the beginning!' Kuroka was already on guard, but she decided to speak in a way that didn't say so many things, so she could be sure that her thoughts about him were right.

"My sister thinks I betrayed her. Everything... everything was that guy's fault ~Nya!"

She spoke as he handed her the tea.

Kuroka is Koneko's older sister who was born to a Nekoshou named Fujimai and a human researcher. After losing her parents, she and her sister were later taken by an unnamed Devil of the House of Naberius branch family, and she was reincarnated as a Devil Bishop using two Evil Pieces.

While serving her master, she became extremely talented in Senjutsu and Youjutsu, and her magic power as a Bishop became so great that she surpassed her own master in terms of magic power alone. This later became her downfall when she later became a Stray Devil after killing her master, with everyone assuming she was drunk on her own powers.

The real reason for the murder was to protect her sister Shirone from her master, who tried to conduct tests on her in his research on creating a Super Devil. This resulted in her sister's near execution and depression, as well as the reason she refuses to use Senjutsu and Youjutsu. After the incident, Kuroka became one of the most wanted criminals in the underworld, ranking in the SS-Class.

'Oh? Is it so brutal? It works, the more brutal it is, the easier it will be for me to exploit... no, to fix!' The librarian thought.

He knew exactly what was going on. She and her sister were fighting over a guy!

"There are always two sides to everything. Even if she thinks you cheated on her, it's not exactly the way she thinks, right? You could try to talk to her in a calmer way and explain about everything. That way, you can 'compete' in the future, without losing the sisterly friendship you have with each other."

'It seems that he really already knows about all this... Besides, compete? Is he implying about me wanting senjutsu for her?' She thought as she looked at the tea in her cup. 'He's right. I did all this so my sister wouldn't suffer from this, so she wouldn't see what I saw. Those damned devils, I will surely get revenge on those left over from that damned house of devils...'

"You are right. But I have lost and hurt myself so much that my sister thinks I betrayed her. I was just trying to rid her of that damn thing and all related to it, but I was afraid to tell her about it and she wouldn't agree with what I did. I was afraid she would stop seeing me as a sister. What's the point of seeing their vileness?"

At that moment, the librarian realized everything. 'Oh, so it wasn't as I initially thought. So her sister's boyfriend and his friends were bloody scoundrels, and she only wanted her sister's good,' he thought sharply. 'Besides, "I've lost and hurt so much..." I know exactly what to do.'

Let that silver tongue enlighten you!

"Of course there's a reason,' he said. "Now you know what's real and what's not, you won't feel sorry for those who hurt you." He's talking about that bastard. "Even those who were close to you." Again, he's talking about that bastard.

'Is that why he waited for me? Did he want to use me to plot against those devils? He is cunning and elegant, and he despises the devils...' Kuroka thought as everything fell into place in her head. 'Could this librarian be some kind of high-level black mage? That would explain why I don't feel anything coming from him, black mages are known to be able to hide their powers and energies.'

"So what do you think I should do ~Nya?" She asked him in a sad voice. She didn't know what action to take, and he seemed to be quite experienced in these situations.

"Since they have lost their humanity, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth!"

3. Objective suggestion!

"You don't have to take it easy on people like them!"

[Giving the client a suggestion that is appropriate to practice after learning about the situation. This is what distinguishes Hyoudou issei's words to the words of a worthless common chatterbox, comforting a customer].

Kuroka looked at him with great shock.

"You mean... wait, I don't think I've mentally prepared myself for this yet." She still needed to recover to make a possible attack on the devils, and she also needed to prepare herself mentally to try to talk to her sister about everything she had done...

'Didn't I mentally prepare myself for that? Hehehe, finally what I wanted to hear. Time to do business!'

"I think what you really need... Is this book." He put a blue book on the table and showed it to her. 'Good thing I was reading [The Confessions of Rousseau]. That kind of boring reading is the best for a lady lost in thought.'

Kuroka looked at the book, and its cover was totally unusual from a normal book. The cover of the book was red and had something like roots giving it a touch of detail, and in the center of the book was a kind of golden circle. However, the title of the book that Kuroka saw was what really made her face tense.

'[Beast Blood of the Nekoshou]?I've never heard of that before... Besides, Nekoshou... He knows what I am...? Is that why he is giving me this book now...?' She thought as she opened the book.

The moment Kuroka opened the book, that's where everything happened. The book was all red as if blood was splashing from it. The blood was totally going into it quickly, leaving her totally surprised at what she was seeing.

"What!?" She screamed as something began to circle over her body. it appeared to be a black tail. When she looked at the 'creature', she was totally dumbfounded. 'Is that... a black cat?'

Can you imagine a cat that is almost entirely black, except for a white spot on its chest, and that is the size of an adult person? That is Cait Sith. The almost entirely black cat, Cait Sith, is part of Irish and Scottish folklore. His name means "Fairy Cat", but he is not much of a fairy...

The Scots believed that Cait Sith was a witch who turned into a cat. The ninth time she took on the animal form, she stayed that way forever. So when a black cat passed near a dead person, the legend says that it was the witch who came to take the person's soul.

Suddenly, the contaminated blood of the cat was spilled into the cup containing the tea that Kuroka was drinking.

'The power to seek the soul of those who died... the contaminated blood of the cat, Cait Sith. So it wasn't just a legend? This guy possesses a way to control the tainted blood!?' Kuroka thought in shock. 'For someone like him to get that... he could mess up the whole power structure!'

"That... that's what you want me to do?"

"Yes. I need you to do that. You must. Not out of regret, but to face yourself honestly," he said. 'Whew... No matter how strong they may seem, a girl with a broken heart because her sister thought she wanted to steal her boyfriend is still so sentimental. I can only give her a few words of comfort and recommend a good book. She looks like she is about to cry.'

Kuroka would normally act seductive and try to flirt with any handsome man, but this mysterious man in front of her made her totally tense. She couldn't act the way she normally would with any person(man) she met.

He approached her, making her even more tense, but she didn't back down. He put his hand on her shoulder and began to speak again.

"Whenever the last trumpet sounds, I will stand before the sovereign judge, with this book in my hand, and proclaim aloud, the following sentences," at that moment, he raised his hands over her head, and Kuroka swore she saw his hands glow with a crimson aura.

"Thus I acted; these were my thoughts. This is how I am. Everyone has their own primitive bestial desire, don't they?" He finished confidently. 'Using these phrases to strengthen her confidence. Don't worry. Comforting someone is my specialty!'

"Confront that. Trust me, and you will be reborn."

4. Decisive Conclusion!

[After the client has vented their emotions, guide them to the correct path. Use their trust themselves to take action and solve their problems! These are Hyoudou Issei's little tricks for conversation. Have you learned them, my children?]

"That's for a new tomorrow. A little toast," he said as he held up the tea cup.

Kuroka already determined, picked up her tea cup as she thought about the blood that fell into it. However, she didn't mind that and turned to the man.

"Thank you for your advice. I will follow it well." She said as they slammed the cups into each other.

She took it quickly, and had an urge to spit it all out, but she didn't do that. The man looked a little worried.

'Calm down woman! That's hot water! You really did it! I just wanted you to warm up your belly, pretty woman! Hmm? It looks like she's fine. Is that the legendary iron body and excellent skill I heard about?' He thought.

"Please fill out that library form." He handed her a pen and paper. "Normally, a book like this goes up to 2 months as a loan date, but since this is your first time picking up a book here, I will let you have double the time, four months. However, please be sure to return the book on the right date..."

She just tensed at the way he said this, but she quickly nodded as she turned her eyes back to the library card.

Kuroka thought about lying about her name, but that would be useless, after all he knows her. Not only that, he also helped her, so there is no reason for her to lie. She wrote down her name and handed the chart to him.

'Kuroka, hm. She didn't put her last name? Maybe the fight with her sister was more serious than I initially thought. Besides, if you ignore her clothes that are finished because of the rain, that kimono of hers is really expensive, something a poor family couldn't afford. Maybe she is a rich girl? That's a big chance! I might be able to cheat... no, make enough money to renovate my store window!' The man thought with great animation.

"Well, that's about all. The rain is still pretty heavy. I'll lend you that umbrella too. Remember to bring it back when you return the book." He handed the umbrella to her.

She took the umbrella and thanked him.

"Thanks for the help... May I know a little more about you kitten ~Nya?" She asked in a more seductive tone.

'Me!? I didn't accidentally flirt with her, right? She's... no, let's answer honestly.' He thought and raised his hand to her. "My name is Hyoudou Issei. I'm just a normal but charitable person who dropped out of school in pursuit of opening this bookstore that I own."

After that, Kuroka prepared to leave. 'It seems he doesn't want to reveal his true identity. But he should be by my side, at least.'

"So, Issei-kun, have a good night~ Nya."

"Sure, have a safe trip."

...

As Kuroka closed the bookstore doors, thanks to her hearing, she was able to hear Issei muttering.

"I hope you come back, black cat."

She stopped completely, wide-eyed. 'So... he really knew what I was...' She started to walk away.

...

Issei looked at the black cat on the second floor that came out the window, even in this rainy storm. Well, at least the cat must have eaten the feed he left under the window when he came in.

When Kuroka was at a distance where you couldn't hear what he was saying, he coincidentally started talking again.

"Hmm~ I made another good one again. Helping others makes you feel great!" As he stretched his arms a bit, he began to think. 'Maybe that's the reason I was transported to this world.'

"I should get everything organized and ready for the next customer," as soon as he said that, the sound of thunder echoed loudly. "If there is to be another client today..."

Kuroka was walking with the umbrella in one hand and the book in the other. She really wouldn't need the umbrella, but it would be rude to turn down someone as handsome as that library owner. Besides, he was a candidate to give her some kittens. Because of that, she couldn't leave a bad impression on him.

But still...

'Does he really want me to deal with the devils and reconcile with my sister before the book deadline? Come again and again...' As Kuroka was thinking, a person began to approach.

She quickly stood on guard. However, as the man approached and she saw who it was, her blood froze completely as she became paralyzed.

The person who was approaching was a handsome man who appears to be in his 20s. He has shoulder length crimson hair and blue eyes. He was holding an umbrella as he started to approach her.

'This man is... Sirzechs Lucifer (Demon King).' Kuroka thought fearfully. 'He found me...? I... am I going to die now?' She didn't know what to do. There was no way she could escape Satan himself.

However, the man walked past her, leaving her confused. She still couldn't move, and at that moment, Sirzechs looked at her with great intensity. Even though she couldn't see him looking at her, she could feel his gaze on her. She thought he was going to kill her, however...

"Oh... That book. You really are a lucky woman."

Kuroka felt as if her life was going to end right there due to so much pressure emitted by Satan himself. She didn't have the strength to deal with some High Class Devils, much less Satan himself!

"Normally I would take you with me, but since he entrusted one of his books to you, I'll let it go. There must be a reason he did that. I'll pretend I didn't see you this time, Kuroka, SS-class Fugitive." The man spoke as he turned away from her. "Ah, your sister is doing just fine, although I don't know if you care about that information. She has become a devil reincarnated from my little sister, you can at least be assured that she will be treated well."

After saying this, Sirzechs walk to the bookstore to which Kuroka had just left. With her keen eyesight, she saw him enter there, and she quickly collapsed into the wall as she breathed heavily.

'I thought I was going to die...' She thought as she hugged the book she picked up at the Issei bookstore. The rain was falling on her who was no longer with her umbrella since she dropped it. However, that was not relevant.

She was looking in the direction of that man's bookstore.

"To be able to jabber even with a mutant of that level..." She muttered while only one thought was in her head at that moment.

Who the hell was that librarian...?

Kuroka quickly picked up the umbrella that was on the ground with her free hand and started to walk away, the time hugging the book with great force over her body with his other hand. According to him, Shirone is fine. She was in the Peerage of Satan's own sister.

As she walked away, she couldn't help but say.

"It seems I have found someone really extraordinary ~Nya!"

So what do you think? Tell me your opinions about this work.

Well, basically I had this idea after reading "I'm Really Not The Evil God's Lackey". It is a Manhua that I highly recommend, it has a totally different take on anything you have ever read, for sure.

It's basically a comedy mixed with supernatural. It focuses on various "misunderstandings" that occur throughout the story, which are very funny.

Ddraig will be in the story, however, his origin will be a little different from the original Light Novel. Let's just say that he will actually have a reason for being called the Dragon of Domination here. Ophis will also have a different origin than the original.

Let me know if you want me to continue with this story. Well, I know I have a lot of other stories to post chapters on, but it's like I said, if something sticks in my head it won't come out of it until I've done at least 1 chapter.
