A/N Hello there! To start it off, this is my first wicked fanfiction. I have had this idea for a while now, I finally got around to write it down . I hope you enyjoy this story.

So far Elphaba's life has been determined by all kinds of rules. As it happens, she was due to her temper, often faced with the consequences when crossing the line.

There were values in her life she treasured dearly, one was honesty to yourself and others, the second was speaking up against injustice. During times like these the latter seemed especially important.

It all happened so suddenly, first the new professor who was ecstatically talking about new techniques to stop Animals from learning how to speak, the next second, total madness broke out.

Watching in slight shock, the scene of wildly moving students plus the professor in front of her, left her with many emotions however, 'regret' was not one of them.

She did this, unable to contain her anger any longer, the magic she possessed broke free, without her intention. But seeing the poor lion cub trembling in that cage, she just couldn't stay put.

Sitting by the suicide cannel now Elphaba carelessly threw a pebble into the water.

Bitterly she thought how to go on now. Practicing magic was forbidden in Oz, only the magic of the wonderful wizard was the right and pure kind. Every other was too dangerous and unnatural therefore not allowed.

It was weird because all of her life she lived hiding that part of herself, only her father and sister know of her 'curse', and Galinda.

By now though, the whole of Shiz university must be aware of the incident, how she made her fellow students move uncontrollably.

Well, all students except for him. Fiyero was for some reason left unharmed, but he was clearly shocked, she could tell that by the way he took several steps away, like he was afraid she would harm him next.

The look of unconcealed fear in Fiyero's eyes was imprinted on Elphaba's mind, this was the exact reason for hiding her magic. She would only hurt the people around her.

For a fleeting moment she thought the wizard's banns were justified. Still his next actions confused her, because he didn't flee the room to scream 'Witch!' Instead, he grabbed the cage with the lion cub in one hand and her own hand in the other, together they ran to the next forest clearing.

His demeanor seemed to have changed, now it was replaced anger, which did not make sense to her. Maybe she thought, she had previously misread him. It's just him being afraid of her, she would understand, anything akin to a positive reaction not so much.

He sat the cage without rattling it too much down on the ground with an audible sigh and took a step back to lock at her earnestly. "Why didn't you tell me?", he sounded upset, what did she do? Guilt was starting to heavily set in her stomach. Still, no one was to know about it, for good reason.

"Fiyero-," she began.

"No Elphaba! I thought you and I were friends now. Friends tell each other such things," he stroked with on hand exasperatedly through his dark blond hair, "does Galinda know?"

"I never told her, but yes she found out about it recently, she said she had her suspicions for a while; therefore, she wasn't surprised."

"I see." was his only reply. He didn't look satisfied with her answer.

"I'm sorry Fiyero, but please understand my position, okay? Possessing magic, I can't change that, so it must stay secret. You know what happens to people like me." Leaving the rest unspoken, only a slight gesture with a hand to her neck expressed her meaning.

"Fae, I would never rat you out, you do know that right?", he took a step forward again taking her hand in his, there it was again the quickening of her heartbeat but at the same time her hand in his it felt right and calming.

"Yes, I know", came her soft reply. Having these feelings for the vinkun prince wasn't news to her, they had grown closer over the previous year.

Fiyero and Galinda dated for 4 months and at her roommate's insistence she gave the obnoxious prince a chance to be friendly with him.

Now the prince and the blonde girl had broken up, but Fiyero and she were still close friends, all three of them were.

Shortly before Galinda and Fiyero had broken up, something between the green girl and the prince had changed. It was during an evening, while they were strolling back to the dorms. They had been studying in the library for hours. Just after taking a step out of the door, did she feel the first rain drop hitting her cheek. Soon it developed into typical a summer rain.

The rain was seemingly warring with the heated air around them. It created was a wonderful and freeing atmosphere .

She saw Fiyero stop in front of her. Out of the blue, Fiyero just started talking about what she would do if he and Galinda weren't a couple. That lately she was constantly on his mind, her own mind had trouble keeping up with his sudden admission. Trying to form any kind of words her empty mind may have left her. Without much consideration she voiced her first clear thought, which was that she felt the same about him.

Still, she didn't elaborate further and put a stop to this leading to anywhere else. She tried to remind him that he and Galinda were perfect for each other. Her own feelings were tucked away for now. She was the opposite of perfection, also she and Fiyero didn't make sense on paper. It wouldn't work out between, ending with both of them hurting the other.

He simply shook his head in disbelieve before he grabbed her cheek and leaned in, as if to proof to her that she was wrong. Which perhaps, yes, she was.

Yes, she had loved how it felt being kissed by him but the second her mind functioned again she pushed him back and raised her hand ready to slap him in the face.

Elphaba was shocked, what just happened. Hurt and confused eyes stared up at him. Fiyero's regretful posture changed her mind halting her hand in midair. Instead, she just shook her head trying to erase what just happened and ran away, feeling guiltier than ever.

Sometime later Galinda found out what happened, but despite being a little hurt at the beginning, they did not have a fight because of it. Strangely it brought them a little closer.

In that clearing it happened again, their suppressed emotions of the past year bubbled to the surface, and they kissed.

She took a step forward and felt how he held onto her waist to bring her closer and she fully melted into this kiss. Only the soft mewl of the lion cub still in the cage beside them, brought them back to the present.

"Wow", he said smiling at her as he pulled away

"Yes, wow", she agreed breathlessly

With a lingering touch of their hands, they parted ways, he went off to bring the lion cub to safety. Soon he was halting in his steps again, throwing a glace over his shoulder. He made her promise him, that they would talk later, to figure out a plan of action. With her magic and with them.

She didn't really have an answer for either, so she sat here by the cannel, expecting gale force soldiers to arrest her and to be executed at any moment.

Life at Shiz had been good so far, for the first time in her life she had friends. The thought is still strange, and she is sure that at some point they'll realize that she isn't worth their time and leave but for now they were still here. For that she was immensely glad, especially now.

Her only idea of a solution now would be to pack her things and leave, her anxiety was growing with every passing minute, and she almost made up her mind to get up and leave, when Fiyero returned.

He was in the middle of sitting down beside her when she suddenly sprang up and pulling him with her, when she looked at him pleadingly, he saw fear clouding her dark eyes.

"What am I supposed to do now Fiyero? What am I going to do now! I don't know what to do! Go on the run then I'll be fugitive and I can't do that to Nessa and father? So what? I'll just hex everyone. Or should I just surrender now?"

"Fae stop it, please." But she interrupted him again to continue her rant, "No Elphaba, listen to me I know it's ironic for me to say this now, but we can't go at this brainless", that brought a slight smile to her face, she had a beautiful smile.

"Yes, we wouldn't want to be brainless now, would we?" came her sarcastic reply, but stayed silent now. It seemed to be a good sign for him that she was still able to be her usual snarky self.

Fiyero took a deep breath and explained his thoughts on the matter. Together they agreed that before any decisions were made, they should check what was going on, on campus.

Fiyero insisted against her protests that it was safest for only him to go, Elphaba was supposed to stay put. Later Fiyero would go to Galinda to inform her, maybe she had a good advice for her green best friend.

With a lot of reluctance, she promised him to not go anywhere and to wait till he was back.

This didn't sit well with her, to wait and do nothing! There had to be something she could do, a strange thought crossed her mind. Magic was the cause for all this maybe it could get her out of it too.

Because she did try to learn more about magic and how to use it. There were books she bought from the black market back in Munchkinland, that taught her a lot about practicing magic.

Learning and studying were embedded in her every bone the wizards law couldn't change that, it just meant she had to be careful.

Her magical outbursts were under control since she learned how to use her magic correctly.

But what with Dr. Dillamond being send to the outskirts to be retaught how to be an animal and seeing the lion maybe Lion cub being mistreated was the last straw. She exploded and her magic did as well.

Even though she feared the consequences now, she did not regret putting a stop to this madness.

Oz was not a place anymore were being different meant to be proud about it and not having to hide.

She came to the conclusion that no matter what happens now, this must be stopped.

Her hands were lit with beautiful green sparks surrounding them. This magic the wizard so feared had to be the solution.

When Fiyero returned back to her, darkness had already fallen. He saw her from afar with her back turned to him, green sparks flying around her. She wore her hair loose today and the slight breeze swirled through her hair. Elphaba gave the perfect picture of a mysterious figure who one with the darkness. A sight some people would have been frightened of, he instead would describe it as being in awe of her, she radiated strength in that moment.

That is why he knew without seeing her face what her decision was. The fear from earlier completely left her body, the woman standing a few meters in front of him now was here to fight.

A/N I say that every time in an A/N but if any of you find some grammar or some other mistakes, I should take care of, please kindly point them out to me. I don't write professionally, I simply enjoy writing. Also I'm always working on becoming a better writer, so if you have any tips, I'm all ears. Because while writing this, I felt how i mixed english and my native language in my head, I'm sure some of you can relate to that ;)
