A/N: Hey, it's your girl!
Without further ado, here's the final part of this little story. Thanks for all of your support. The story is mostly a romantic comedy but with a little drama thrown in. This chapter is longer than most of the others.
It has been a lot of fun writing this, particularly the interactions between our precious baby boy and his two moms. It's adorable to imagine Brittana having their little family together. It's what I truly wish we had been able to see play out on screen in a flashforward at the end of Glee and HeYa probably would have loved that too.
Somewhere in the Glee universe right now, Brittana are indeed happily married with their babies, living their best lives together.

Yes, in case you're wondering, Sylvia Fine from The Nanny did heavily inspire the way I wrote Whitney XD
Santana texted Brittany in a panic one day when she was stuck in a meeting because a teacher had called her to say that Kenai was acting strangely at school. He was hiding under a table and seemed to be anxious about something, which was unusual for the boy. It was after her shift had just ended, so Brittany, along with Tina rushed down to the preschool to check on the little boy as the diner wasn't far away.
Although the teachers had looked at Brittany with disdain when she introduced herself, not allowing her to see Kenai as she wasn't his mother or a relative, they eventually explained what had happened to her after sensing that she was close to the boy and she had begged to know if he was alright. Brittany and Tina could see Kenai through the glass wall and waved at him. They were both relieved that he was playing and seemed to be okay.
"You really adore him, don't you?" Tina asked in a soft voice, smiling up at her tall, blonde friend who never took her eyes off of the child. "I know you've always wanted a baby for as long as I've known you. It's the one thing you always longed for."
"He just really makes me happy, Tina."
"I can see that, Britt," The woman replied, giving the blonde's shoulder a friendly squeeze. "It's the first time you've ever seemed so settled and you just… have this glow about you when you're around him. It's like you have a new purpose."
Their conversation was interrupted by a nervous Santana coming in to look for Brittany and Kenai.
"Where is he?! What happened to him?" Santana all but demanded, storming in and rushing up to them just a few minutes later when she finally got there. She threw her arms around Brittany and held her, hugging her tightly for a moment then stroking her face and looking over her as if making sure she was alright, breathing a sigh of relief when she confirmed that she was. Brittany had to admit that being in Santana's warm embrace always made her feel more secure and she breathed in her spicy scent, closing her eyes for a brief moment and cherishing the feeling. "Thank God you aren't hurt, Britt. I was so worried."
"Don't worry I'm fine and Kitten seems to be okay now," Brittany replied quietly, cupping Santana's face as well and stroking her cheek in an effort to calm her. "It was a false alarm. He's safe. He was crying because he saw some man he was scared of walking by but it turned out to be an innocent stranger. Kenai just didn't know."
"I can't calm down if he's in trouble!" Santana roared, pacing the floor as her eyes darted around the room. "Who was it? Where did that man go? If that was one of Sebastian's fucking demented goons in here trying to get to him I'll destroy -"
Kenai put down the toy he was playing with and began to weep as Santana went on panicking about what could have happened. It seemed he could hear her loud, furious voice through the thin walls. Brittany winced, placing a hand on Santana's arm after a while but even that didn't soothe her. Tina eventually lost her temper with Santana as the woman continued to panic and spoke up.
"Santana, he's fine! We can all see he's fine and he's playing. You can just leave him be for now," Tina told her calmly but firmly. "He's really in no danger."
"I'll never ignore my son!" Santana growled in a deadly voice, giving the short, dark-haired woman the darkest look imaginable as she went into the room to comfort her boy in her arms. Tina and some of the teachers who were standing nearby shrank away from Santana in fright as they could feel the anger coming off of her.
Tina was startled and looked over at Brittany in bewilderment, shaking her head.
"You know I care about Kenai and I didn't mean it like that, Britt!" She cried, flabbergasted. "God, she's touchy! Touchier than normal even. "
"It's okay, Tina, I know you didn't mean anything bad," Brittany said softly, glancing at her friend sympathetically. "You're a good friend to us. I'm sorry about that. Santana has been through a lot lately and she's a little… on edge."
Brittany didn't want to explain to Tina why exactly Santana was so nervous about Kenai being targeted as no one except the Latina and Brittany knew what had happened in Santana's past. The two of them watched as Santana picked up a whimpering Kenai, cradling him in her arms and rocking him lightly with her brows drawn together in concern and her lips pressed together tightly. She took him to see Brittany.
"Mami and Brittany are here now, Baby. It's alright, we won't let anyone hurt you." Santana cooed to him while Brittany kissed his forehead and stroked his back gently.
"Sweetie, it's alright. Mami wasn't yelling at you," Brittany told Kenai, as she knew sometimes he would get upset when Santana raged at someone in front of them. Santana could be really intense when she was going off on someone. "She's not mad at you."
Santana's face softened, gentled by Brittany's comforting words and touches.
"See, Santana? It was nothing. It's okay." Brittany kissed her cheek, rubbing her arm as they finally walked away, Santana still holding Kenai in her arms as she decided to take him home right away after their scare. He eventually settled and stopped crying, laying his head on Santana's shoulder. Santana herself eventually relaxed, not seeing anyone who could pose a threat to them.
Brittany was closing up the diner one day when a small, warm body ran straight into her, hugging her leg. She immediately sensed who it was and picked him up, sighing and shaking her head with exasperated affection as the dark-haired toddler just squealed at her.
"Look who's here! Kitten, you're back to see me again?" Brittany asked, kissing him on the cheek. Tina and Rachel were thrilled about their regular guest being back to see them. Kenai had managed to slink away from Santana to visit her once or twice after the first incident months ago. Now apparently, he had managed it yet again. "How did you get here? It's like you have superpowers."
"Ran away from Mami!" He shouted in explanation with a smug, victorious smile, quickly attaching himself to Brittany with his arms wrapped around her neck and his legs around her waist like a koala bear.
Brittany laughed, getting out her phone to call Santana to let her know that she had him and he was safe. She had to say that she was impressed by Kenai's ability to always get back to the diner and find her.
"Oh not again!" Santana sighed wearily in frustration but sounded relieved all the same when she heard Brittany's voice. "That little devil. I'm five minutes away on the next block over. That little guy moves so fast, I almost thought something worse had happened… I'm coming over to get him right now, Britt."
"No, sorry, it's too late for that, Santana. I'm taking him back to my parents' house now," Brittany told her quickly, still holding the toddler in one arm as she opened the door to her car with her free hand. "I'm borrowing a car seat from my friend. You'll have to meet us back at my house. We're going to a Pierce family reunion tonight and I'm running late."
"Okay… in that case, I guess I'll see you two at your parents' house." Santana confirmed awkwardly and it made the blonde smile to herself. Brittany understood why she was so hesitant as it would technically be Santana's first time meeting the parents since they began officially dating. Santana had picked her up from the Pierce's house, where Brittany still lived quite a few times but she hadn't interacted with Brittany's parents one on one as yet.
Kenai was overjoyed and very enthusiastic about being driven to Brittany's house. She kept handing him animal crackers in his carseat, the two of them singing along to some song on the radio as she drove. Brittany always spaced out when she was driving and she frequently got lost even on her way to her childhood home but thankfully, they made it back home in one piece without any issues.
Whitney Pierce was all dressed up in a fancy, strappy black evening gown that probably showed way too much cleavage and her hair was permed when she showed up at the door.
"Brittany, finally you're here! Your father got stuck in the attic again and we're going to be late again. Oh my! Who's this munchkin? Such a cute little boy!" Whitney beamed, bending over to pinch his cheeks and fawn over Kenai as soon as the blonde walked into the Pierce house holding his little hand. Kenai grinned back at Whitney in his little red bowtie and shorts, loving all the attention. "Such a handsome boy! Brittany, you didn't tell us you had a son! When did this happen?"
Brittany sighed fondly at her mother's eccentric humour and booming voice. "Oh Mom. Louder, I'm sure the neighbours just heard you. The entire town of Lima probably did."
"Hi there, Sweetie!" Whitney waved at Kenai. Brittany hoped that the massive, curvaceous woman with her wild blonde hair didn't frighten the child with her overexuberance but fortunately, Kenai seemed to warm up to Whitney right away, practically jumping into her arms to hug her. "What a pleasant surprise to finally meet mini Lopez. Such a charming boy you are. Brittany, why haven't you introduced us before?"
Whitney held his little hand and led Kenai away into the kitchen before Brittany knew what was happening, telling him some long-winded story about Brittany's dad Pierce getting stuck in the attic.
When the blonde eventually walked into the living room, Kenai was sitting on Whitney's lap watching cartoons with a huge dimpled smile on his face and had chocolate all over his mouth. Brittany couldn't resist taking out her phone to snap a picture of the adorable sight but she shook her head at her mother practically kidnapping the Lopez boy.
"Mom, what are you doing with him? He's gonna pop if you feed him anymore."
"Let me spoil him, Brittany. He's basically our first grandchild… we've been waiting forever on you to have one and quite frankly, you're taking too damned long!" Whitney chuckled, talking very loudly as she always did and handing him a second chocolate chip cookie. "Is that Lopez shooting blanks, or what? Don't be shy, have some more blue moon ice cream and cookies, Pussycat. Look, he has a sweet tooth just like you, Brittany."
"Oh Mom, let him breathe," Brittany laughed awkwardly, purposely ignoring the comment about grandchildren although her face felt a little warm at the thought. "Would you believe he slipped away from Santana to meet me at the diner again?"
Whitney gave her a look, wagging her finger as she spoke in a motherly tone while Kenai continued to look very pleased with himself on her lap as she shared her wisdom with her blonde daughter.
"He's running directly to you , Brittany. That's what he's doing. This little one is very attached to you."
"I'm Mommy's son!" Kenai chimed in, seemingly agreeing and making both women laugh.
"See? What did I just tell you? He knows!" Whitney insisted, waving her hands for emphasis as she made her point.
Just then, the doorbell rang and the two women opened the door to find an awkward Santana in her typical work clothes - a fancy black blazer over a button down shirt and slacks - staring at them nervously. Her eyes went big when she saw Whitney. She gave the older woman a polite smile and nodded, acknowledging her, her posture straight and rigid. Brittany melted at the sight of Santana, also thinking it was cute how timid the Latina was being.
"H-hello, Mrs. Pierce. It's great to finally meet you. I'm just here to pick up my son."
"Wait a minute! Wait a minute! I know who you are!" Whitney exclaimed. Santana shifted awkwardly, her mouth twisting uneasily as Whitney moved closer and her voice got louder. "Oh why so formal, Honey?! Just call me Mom!"
"Mrs. Pierce I - "
The look on Santana's face when Whitney threw her arms around her was priceless. Brittany grinned and almost jumped in to rescue her as the small dark-haired woman nearly got squeezed to death by the forcefulness of Whitney's hug.
"Oh my, who do we have here!?" The very tall and buxom, older blonde woman exclaimed with enthusiasm, grabbing Santana by the shoulders and practically pulling her into the house as the dark-haired woman had the most awkward expression. Then she hollered for Brittany's father. "We are entertaining the rich and famous here, in our humble abode! Pierce, come quick, it's Santana Lopez, attorney at large!"
Brittany stifled a laugh behind her hand but cringed at how embarrassing her mom was being. She began to worry that it was a little too much for Santana. The weirdness and craziness of her parents was exactly why she had been so reluctant for Santana to finally meet them whenever the lawyer suggested that they go over to Brittany's place.
"M-Mrs. Pierce… I'm so sorry to impose. I don't want to make you late for your function-"
"Nonsense! Come in, come in, Little Lopez. Make yourself at home!"
Santana sputtered and she clearly didn't know what to make of Whitney Pierce as the middle aged woman guided her into the living room. Whitney kept watching Santana as she applied lipstick to her own lips, somehow without looking in a mirror at all. She smacked her lips together and Santana squirmed as the older blonde observed her with narrowed blue eyes for a long moment.
"So this is the secret mystery lover!" Whitney smirked, glancing at Brittany and Santana as they sat on the couch awkwardly beside each other, Santana keeping her arm around Brittany's shoulders. Then Whitney leaned over the couch to whisper in Brittany's ear in a very obvious way. "Put on some more lipstick and make yourself look pretty, Brittany!"
"Mom!" Brittany groaned, cringing and hiding her face as her cheeks felt hot again. She loved her mother but Whitney was beginning to drive her insane. "Can you please not?"
Just then, they heard a very loud thud as something crashed and a man's voice shouting, "I'm okay!". When Brittany's father finally came down to greet them, shaking Santana's hand and even bowing dramatically before her for some reason, he was covered in dust and still had some Christmas tree lights wrapped around him though it was the middle of summer. Brittany didn't bother to ask what that was about.
To their relief, Whitney and Pierce steered clear of any questions about the nature of their relationship as they spoke to Santana, telling her all about their plans to open a cat café. Santana was finally about to pull Kenai away from his cartoon watching session so the mother and son could leave and let Brittany go to the reunion when Whitney rounded on the lawyer with her friendly, smiling face. Santana jumped back slightly.
"So, what we want to know is, when are you gonna put a ring on it and make an honest woman out of our Brittany?" Whitney suddenly asked at full volume, both her and Pierce grinning at Santana, who had been quite meek and polite the entire time.
"Oh my God…" Brittany cringed, facepalming as Santana stiffened beside her and practically fell off of the couch in her flustered state, her mouth dropping open. "Oh Mom…"
"Oh sorry, me and my big, fat mouth!" The brassy woman laughed breezily, waving her hand dismissively to make light of what she had just said. She gave Santana a friendly poke in the chest and Brittany took pity on her poor girlfriend as the woman looked like she was on the verge of a panic attack. "Ignore what I just said. I don't mean to butt into your relationship. What you two do in private is between you two and I don't want to intrude but you do make a very cute couple, yes you do! Damn well the cutest couple I've seen in this town since Pierce and I were hot young things, isn't that right, Hubby?"
Santana looked visibly relieved but shaken as Pierce nodded, voicing his agreement as he looked at Santana approvingly, giving her two thumbs up.
"Our little Brittany, well, she certainly has got around when it comes to affairs of the heart, she just loved any good looking guy or gal she could find but you, well Lopez, I'll be damned you are by far the sexiest of all of her lovers and I can attest to that!" Whitney told a cringing Santana as Brittany groaned while Pierce quietly urged Whitney to calm down.
Santana looked terrified as Whitney gave her a vaguely flirtatious glance. "You know I don't swing that way but look at this face and those lips! My goodness! Hollywood, I tell you! She's a heartthrob if I've ever seen one!"
"Mom, please! You're holding her back!" Brittany complained in a whiny voice, annoyed, "Let her go already!"
"Oops, sorry! I really do talk too much!" Whitney shouted with a laugh as she turned to Santana. "Grumpy Girl, it was great meeting you. You just drop by anytime though, our door's always open!" Whitney called as Santana picked up Kenai, who was whiny and reluctant to leave the Pierce house.
"It - it was nice meeting you too, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce!" Santana shouted back in a high-pitched voice as she finally left. Brittany groaned again to herself, thinking about how she was going to have to apologize profusely to Santana for this and maybe offer to give her head if all else failed. Santana definitely would never refuse that even if she was mad.
"Oh my God. I hope you didn't scare her away forever," Brittany sighed, shaking her head as she was still recovering from Whitney and Pierce's encounter with Santana. "Or traumatize her for life. That was really too much."
"Brittany, our little Lopez is absolutely besotted with you," Whitney whispered to Brittany as soon as they walked into the kitchen alone after Santana had driven off. "Or is the word enamored? Charmed? Either way, that woman is crazy about you!"
"Do you really think so?"
Whitney nodded. "Honey, it's as clear as day. She was gazing at you the whole time when she thought I wasn't looking. She might as well write it in bright neon letters."
Brittany smiled bashfully. "I really, really like her, Mom. Really like her."
"Does she make you feel like your heart is doing backflips?"
Brittany nodded shyly.
Whitney patted her head, giving her a soft look. "Well then that's just wonderful, Dear. I can tell that you do love her and the world needs more true love. Now go put on your party dress quickly and tell your father to hurry his ass up because we're not waiting on him anymore. You always look lovely in that lilac dress. Pierce, we're going to drive off without you!"
"So do you still love me even after my parents just tortured you?" Brittany asked in a shy voice, loving the softness of Santana's face and the richness of her dark eyes as she stroked her fingers through black hair. They had made love quite impressively the next morning and were now just holding each other contentedly.
"They weren't that bad, Britt!" Santana insisted with a small laugh, though Brittany could tell by her high, slightly strained voice that she was just trying to make light of the situation. "Your parents were very kind to Kenai and I, the way they welcomed us into their house so warmly…"
"Aw, I'm so so sorry, Baby." Brittany sighed, kissing her full, pouty lips that were frowny because she was clearly a little nervous about the Pierce and Whitney incident. "I'll make it up to you with kisses. Sweet lady kisses… down there. I owe it to you, Baby."
"Britt!" Santana burst out laughing, relaxing as Brittany wiggled her eyebrows playfully. "Any chance I could take you up on that offer…say, in the next five seconds?"
"That was fast. No protests at all, huh?" Brittany giggled, trailing her fingertips along Santana's hip down to her inner thigh. Then her voice turned husky and seductive. "Does it turn you on to think of my mouth on you?"
Santana arched into her, practically bucking into her face when Brittany got between her legs, strands of her long blonde hair tickling her thighs. Brittany smirked at Santana's reaction, noticing that she was beyond wet and her hand went up to thread into Brittany's hair, pushing her head down slightly towards her core.
"I'll take that as a yes." Brittany smirked.
"I have to tell you something. I really love the way you are with my son," Santana mumbled softly into her shoulder when Brittany was done and she could think coherently again. Brittany considered it a feat that Santana usually couldn't think straight for a long time whenever she had her way with her, far less carry on a conversation. "You're so perfect with him. I've never seen him happier than he is around you and it means everything to me that you care about him so much."
Brittany just smiled gently, tucking strands of Santana's hair behind her ear.
"Britt, I think it's time we tell Kenai… about us," Santana said quietly, pulling her close and smiling reassuringly at Brittany as her nerves must have shown on her face. "He has met my girlfriends before so he knows what it means."
Brittany pouted at her, pretending to be mad. "Oh your girlfriends, huh? Who are these chicks?"
"Don't be jealous," Santana laughed but blushed slightly at Brittany's teasing. "Believe me, none of them were around for very long."
"Oh I don't have to be jealous," Brittany whispered huskily, her mouth on the shell of Santana's ear as she leaned over her. "We both know none of those hussies could make you come the way I can."
"Brittany!" Santana squeaked at her boldness, sighing as Brittany kissed her hand and sucked the tips of Santana's fingers into her mouth, her leg slipping between Santana's. "Okay, if you don't stop that I won't be able to control what I do next to you and then we won't ever leave this bed ever again."
"I don't see a problem with that…" Brittany quipped, kissing her neck and the corners of her lips curved upward at the way Santana shuddered, jumping out of the bed quickly before Brittany could fully seduce her.
Santana playfully wagged a finger at her then yelped as she stepped on something that Brittany quickly realized was a tiny car as she looked down over the edge of the bed. There were hundreds of tiny cars, toy soldiers and Legos accumulating on the floor in front of Santana's bed.
Santana groaned at that, cursing out loud and then Brittany saw her glare at Lord Tubbington who had now settled on top of Santana's pillow, watching her the whole time with a smug look.
Brittany tried her best to suppress a laugh. "Damn cat… " Santana muttered under her breath while the large tabby cat just purred, giving her his signature haughty, displeased look.
"Cats, kids and loud crazy women all over my apartment and I don't know how this happened!" was what Santana had complained one day when Brittany had Rachel and Tina over, making them all laugh.
"Kenai!" Santana shouted once she and Brittany were fully clothed again and the toddler came running into their room, bouncing onto the bed. "Did you leave these toys here?"
"It wasn't me, it was Tubbs!" Kenai cried with a guilty expression which made Brittany giggle and Santana was unable to resist a smile. The enormous cat's ears twitched as if he understood them.
"Really?" Santana intoned sarcastically as she stared the little boy down.
Santana sighed, narrowing her eyes at him but didn't bother continuing the argument. She picked Kenai up, putting him on the bed to sit between the two of them and he looked up at her with wide, innocent brown eyes, surprised as she looked at him seriously with her lips pressed together. He kicked his legs back and forth, looking over at Brittany questioningly, as if she could explain what his mom was doing.
"Kenai, I have to tell you something," Santana said gently in a serious tone, leaning over so she was at his level, "I know you're a big boy so you'll be able to handle it. Brittany is my girlfriend. That means you'll see us together a lot more and sometimes we might kiss or hold hands."
"Your girlfriend?!" Kenai shouted and grinned widely, cheering but then made a face when she mentioned the part about kissing. "Ew don't kiss!"
Santana just smirked, grabbing him. The two women covered him in kisses while he giggled, squirming and trying to get away from them. "No no no! Gross!"
"I still love you, cariño." Santana reassured him and looked toward Brittany for support. It was clear that Santana was somewhat nervous, not knowing how Kenai would adjust to such a big change but she noticed with relief that Kenai just sat himself on Brittany's lap and gave her an adoring look as he leaned against her. Brittany wrapped her arms around him, kissing his head.
"I love you too, Mami. Can she come and live with us forever?" Kenai asked eagerly, his face lighting up at the thought as he looked over at Brittany.
Santana gave her a tender smile and the blonde just returned it with a shy look.
"If you want to, Brittany. I'd love that."
"Kenai do you need to go?" Santana asked Kenai, giving him a knowing look as he shifted from side to side, completely focused on playing with his action figures in front of the couch where Brittany and Santana were sitting. Kenai was still a toddler and every so often Santana would have trouble getting him to cooperate with her.
"No!" He shouted, sticking his tongue out. "You don't have to ask me, Mami! I'm not a baby!"
"I think you should try though, Sassy Pants," Santana told him. "You haven't gone all day and you had all that juice."
"No!"
Santana just shrugged, sounding doubtful but clearly not wanting to argue with him. He got up onto her lap and hugged her, lying on top of Santana while she stroked his back. "Alright."
"Wow, Rachel's really moving in soon," Brittany whispered in awe, continuing the conversation she had been having with Santana. "Her dads are super rich and she's planning to go to New York next year to audition for Broadway."
"Broadway?! The last thing I need is that dwarf moving into the same building. This is gonna suck. She's gonna be singing at all hours of the day, driving me insane. I just know it." Santana snorted.
Brittany laughed. "You know, you're kind of obsessed with Rachel. I don't know, San, is there something between you two I should know about?"
Santana gave her a withering look, scoffing as Brittany grinned at her playfully. "Don't even go there. You know I'm not into hobbits."
"Mami!" Kenai wailed suddenly, beginning to sob as the three of them were watching TV in silence. Santana just sighed at the wet puddle that ended up soaking through her own clothes, the carpet, all over the expensive couch and even the new shoes she had left in front of the couch.
"I asked if you wanted to go earlier," Santana said sternly, cursing under her breath at the state of her new shoes and the couch. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Aw, Honey," Brittany told him as tears began to fill his eyes and he whimpered loudly. "It's alright."
"Do this when you're in Auntie Rachel's house on her couch instead." Santana joked.
"I- I'm sorry Mami!" He bawled, tears now sliding down his cheeks. Santana's face softened completely, seeing that he was genuinely apologetic at disappointing her and embarrassed about it happening in front of Brittany. "I couldn't help it."
"Darling, it's okay, I know you couldn't. Don't cry," Santana told him gently while Brittany rubbed his back. "Just tell me or Brittany next time if you have to go, okay?"
"Aw, Sweetie." Brittany cooed softly, "Don't you worry."
Brittany held his hand was he cried, eventually picking him up while Santana got out a bunch of paper towels and disinfectant, doing the best that she could to clean everything up. Santana took him away to change his clothes. When he returned, he was wearing adorable green footie pajamas with dinosaurs on them that Brittany had bought for him just recently.
Brittany saw that Kenai still looked sad and embarrassed so she just held him, kissing him on the forehead. He eventually cheered up, wrapping his legs around her and burrowing his head into the crook of her neck as she rubbed his back. Brittany eventually lay back on Santana's bed and fell asleep holding him in her arms.
Kenai's fourth birthday arrived later that summer in early August around a week before Santana's and she decided to have a party for him. What started off as a plan for a very small party with just family ended up being Santana's entire apartment decorated with red balloons, a few of his friends from preschool and Brittany's friends Tina, her boyfriend Mike, Rachel, and her new boyfriend Finn.
Brittany could tell by the way Mike and Tina had looked at her when she invited them that they were reluctant to have anything to do with Santana. The two, along with Rachel and Finn, walked into the apartment hesitantly, as if they were expecting it to be a dungeon with fires raging inside but then relaxed a little more when they realized Santana wasn't actually as scary as the rest of the town made her out to be.
Maribel had also arrived for the party to be there for her grandson while helping Brittany and Santana get everything set up.
Santana cringed at first and Brittany could tell she wanted to protest, moody towards Brittany's friends and not liking the chaos her apartment had turned into with screaming children everywhere but Kenai seemed to be having so much fun that she softened to the idea.
Brittany brought out his birthday cake, which she had made from scratch. It had bright red icing of course, was car-shaped and was chocolate on the inside because Kenai was such a chocoholic. His eyes lit up and he shrieked in delight when he saw it.
When it was time to cut the cake, a little girl with long golden hair kissed his cheek. Kenai blushed, and was too shy to do anything but hide his face. He ran to Brittany and jumped into her arms as the adults smiled.
"Ohh, Kenai, is that your girlfriend?" Santana teased him, the corners of her lips curving upward.
"No!" Kenai shouted, hiding his face in Brittany's neck.
"I thought you like girls?" Santana asked him, making smooching noises to taunt him. "Kenai has a girlfriend."
"Only Mommy!" He cried, hugging Brittany tighter. "I'm Mommy's son!"
"Ohh only Mommy ?" Santana teased with a laugh. "You'll definitely grow out of that phase pretty soon, Little Guy."
They had never seen him eat so much at one time when they finally served the cake.
"Mommy, I don't feels good." Kenai ran up to whisper to Brittany halfway through his party, leaning into her for comfort and tugging at her long skirt. All of the running around was probably too much for him, Brittany thought. His face looked pale and was turning a little green.
"Oh Kitten, my poor little baby. Have a tummy ache, Sweetie?" Brittany picked him up in her arms, rubbing his back gently as she whispered comforting things to him.
Of course, as things always seemed to happen that way for Santana when it came to toddlers, Kenai threw up on her brand new, insanely expensive jacket as soon as she came close to see what was wrong. Tina and Mike laughed hysterically at the sight of Santana's face when Kenai did this and she just cursed loudly. Some of the other adults glared at her while the children gasped.
"Not again," Santana sighed, cringing as she ran off to get changed. "It's the third jacket this month. It's like he's doing this on purpose. Wait, don't cry, Angel."
"Uh oh," Brittany said as he burst into tears, taking him away to wash his face. "I think you need to lie down for a little while, Sweetie."
Even though they tried to get him to rest in his room and guests were slowly filtering out to go home, Kenai had worked himself up too much and was too excited about playing so he wouldn't keep still, despite being sick before.
"Okay, no! Time out!" Santana said sternly after a while, picking up Kenai and scolding him when he bit another boy and punched him for taking the toy he wanted to play with. "You know the rules. No hitting and biting… unless they deserve it. " She added the last part under her breath.
"No!" He cried, kicking and squirming to get away from her.
Minutes later he was running around with something in his hand as Santana chased him. "Are those matches ? Put those down! I just told you not to play with matches! No setting Mami's shoes on fire! "
Many moments later, an exhausted Santana lay back on her bed and set him down on her lap when they got back to the bedroom after all the guests had left. He had been giving her hell, running out of his bedroom everytime she put him down to sleep and threw his action figure at her head.
Kenai narrowed his eyes at her viciously when she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt like she was picking up a cat. The look of fury on his cute face was so amusing, Brittany thought.
"Bad Mami!" He shouted, trying to squirm away from her.
"Ha! See, now he can't do anything," Santana said smugly then she continued in a stern tone, sounding proud of herself for managing to catch him and that he didn't have any "weapons" to throw at her. "I got you. You need to stop with this bad behaviour today, what would Brittany and Abuela think? Ow - no biting Mom!"
"I'm dangerous, Mami! Gonna go Lima Heights!" He growled, sticking out his lower lip with a petulant expression as he stared Santana down.
Santana and Brittany laughed at how adorable he was.
"Nuh uh. You're so tiny and cute, Little Guy. Nothing threatening about you. You can't do a thing!" Santana smirked. Then a moment later her face fell and she lifted him off her lap carefully. "Why do I feel so hot, am I on fire… what, are you serious? You little devil! He's peeing on me as an attack, Britt! This is warfare!"
"Are you attacking Mami?" Brittany giggled.
"Yes!"
"Oh you find this really funny, don't you, Tinkles?" Santana sighed, shaking her head and smiling in spite of herself at the little boy who was laughing his head off.
"I'm completely wet, Britt." She complained.
"I can see that."
Kenai smirked, snickering as Santana carried him away to get both of them a change of clothes, muttering about how she doesn't know what to do with him.
Later that night, Brittany, Santana and Maribel got the mess from the party cleaned up after Kenai had finally fallen asleep in his own bed, to Santana's relief after he had been running wild for the entire day. He had only calmed down when Lord Tubbington deigned to curl up at the foot of his bed and Brittany told him a bedtime story.
"He's so much like you sometimes, Britt, so creative and cute," Santana beamed at her. "Except for being a little terror sometimes. That's definitely from me."
Maribel glanced at Brittany sharply as Santana said this, frowning.
"We're just lucky that Lord Tubbington stopped being a slumlord. He's been cleaning up his act now that he has a kitten to watch over."
"That's right!" Santana laughed along with her, nudging Maribel who was staring at them blankly in confusion. "Mami, she's talking about the cat. Britt is hilarious."
"Oh, I see." Maribel laughed, maintaining a tight smile as she went back to helping Brittany with the dishes.
Brittany kept cracking her signature jokes but while Santana laughed heartily, falling into their usual banter, the blonde noticed that Maribel was mostly silent, apart from polite responses to Brittany and there was something strange about how the older woman was looking at her.
She tried to tell herself that it was nothing… most people weren't used to Brittany's quirky ways but it made her sad that Santana's mother never seemed to warm up to her. It was difficult not to notice that Maribel hadn't been coming around to the apartment very much ever since Brittany had started to spend so much time there.
Brittany walked into the master bedroom to shower after that but she heard Santana's mother talking to her and what she was saying made her heart break.
She couldn't help but listen in with her ear pressed against the door, even though her heart was pounding fast and she could tell that she wasn't going to like where their conversation was going.
"Santana, I'm just saying, realistically…you barely know this woman," Maribel's voice could be heard from where Brittany was standing in the bedroom. "You've known her for less than a year and you act like you've been married for a decade."
"How can you say that after how kind Brittany has been to you - to all three of us?"
"I'm just saying this… arrangement you have with her is a little strange, Santana. People will talk. Your son is clearly confused."
"And why is this your business, Mami?" Santana responded gruffly, her voice rising slightly in fury. "Kenai loves her. It's between her and myself."
"I'm just looking out for your best interests, Mija. I do care about you," Maribel replied in a clipped tone, "She's a nice girl but she's…a simple waitress in a small town with no college education and you, Santana… you're so well-educated, so successful already…you're destined for greatness. Couldn't you find a woman who's a little more… "
"A little more what? So what if she's a waitress? Since when are you such a snob, Mami?" Santana snarled, "You know I love you, Mami and you were there for me when no one else was but so has she. We clearly have different views on how I should live my life. I'll kindly ask you to leave my home, if you're going to try to interfere with my relationship."
"As you wish, Santana. I won't argue with you because I know how you get when you don't get your way. You're as stubborn as your father was, all the way to his grave." Maribel responded coldly. Her footsteps could be heard walking towards the door. Brittany winced at Maribel's last comment as nothing upset Santana more than being thought of as similar to her father.
Those were the last words Brittany heard of their conversation before she slumped against the door and collapsed slowly to the floor, feeling like all of the joy she had been feeling that day had been sucked out of her, replaced by an ice cold feeling.
"Britt?" Santana called, looking at her with concern as she finally found Brittany sitting by the bed. "Were you here the whole time…what's wrong?"
"It-it's nothing." Brittany tried to keep her voice calm although she felt her eyes begin to burn and she sounded choked to her own ears. Santana sat next to her on the floor, wrapping her arm around her shoulders.
"Did you…did you overhear the conversation my mother and I just had?"
Brittany said nothing for a long moment, confirming it and Santana sighed.
"Your mom doesn't like me…" Brittany finally broke down and sobbed as Santana watched her with worried eyes. "She thinks I'm a stupid bimbo."
"Oh Britt. I'm sorry you had to hear that. Brittany, I don't give a fuck how my mom feels about you," Santana muttered, pulling her into her arms fully, cradling her head against her chest as she gently ran her fingers through her long, light-coloured hair. She kissed Brittany's shoulder softly.
"She doesn't understand me at all and she wants me to live the life she never had of fame and glory. She never understood me and as much as I love her, you're my family now. I'd choose you over her. I'd choose you and Kenai over anyone or anything."
"I'd choose you too." Brittany sighed, closing her eyes as she breathed in Santana's comforting scent and tightened her grip on the soft material of her shirt.
"Britt…oh…"
Brittany held onto Santana's hip, squeezing her firm ass as Santana continued to grind into her slowly then became more frantic, their cores sliding together, separated only by the thin fabric of the pajama shorts each of them were wearing. Santana had been impatient to get them both off and before Brittany knew what was happening, they were making out and dry humping like teenagers.
She could feel her own arousal soaking through the thin material and Santana's own heat and wetness against her core as she ground her hips back up into the darker woman everytime she pushed down. Santana kissed and then sucked at a freckle on her chest. She took her time with her, worshipping every inch of her pale skin.
She moved her hands all over Santana's back, enjoying the feeling of her strong, lithe body and then ran them through black hair. Santana's own left hand trailed down Brittany's lower back, slipping under the waistband of her shorts and feeling up the curve of her ass as she sucked in a breath.
She hadn't thought she could come from this alone but with the way Santana's breaths and thrusts were becoming hard and more erratic, Brittany felt the pressure eventually burst inside of her. Santana bit down on her lip, an aroused breath escaping her throat as she saw Brittany come apart beneath her.
Brittany then slid her clothes off entirely as well as Santana's, tossing their shorts aside on the ground beside the bed. She lifted her hips upwards, grabbing Santana's left hand and pressing it firmly between her own thighs. Santana's breath hitched and she didn't need any further encouragement.
"Mm I love your body," Santana purred in a low, husky voice, grabbing her thighs and squeezing them gently. She spent plenty of time worshipping her pale thighs before fondling her breasts. Brittany smirked at her knowingly. "I love the curves, especially your legs. You're the sexiest woman to ever exist."
Santana wanted to take advantage of Kenai being asleep for a few hours to completely rock Brittany's world in the bedroom but the child walking in on them a few minutes later wasn't exactly part of the plan. His little voice caught their attention. Brittany's eyes shot open, realizing that in their haste they had forgotten to lock Santana's bedroom door.
"Mami what are you doing to Mommy?!"
Santana groaned, slumping against her and stopping her movements while Brittany froze underneath her, their legs sliding together. Brittany had already come for the second time, panting breathlessly against her mouth as she clung to her shoulders, Santana's thigh pressed up between her legs but she knew the dark-haired lawyer hadn't been able to get off as yet.
"Why are you on top of her?"
"Should I move?" Brittany mouthed at her as Santana shifted above her uncomfortably.
"Britt Britt, don't go…" Santana complained in a whiny voice, sticking out her lower lip.
Brittany just looked up at her expectantly, holding back her laugh.
"Um… I'll go to him… " Santana eventually told her. Brittany would have laughed if Santana didn't look so genuinely disappointed and on the verge of tears at being interrupted. Santana was so emotional and it was sweet how she could barely keep herself together sometimes.
Brittany kissed her on the cheek soothingly, trying to communicate through her expression that they would definitely continue where they left off later. She sighed when Santana moved off of her.
"It's alright, Kenai," Santana told him, grabbing a blanket from nearby to hold against her naked body as she got up and spoke to him. The little boy pouted at her, standing at the foot of the bed and burst into tears, pointing at Brittany. He was hugging his black cat plushie.
"You were hurting Mommy!"
Brittany resisted the urge to laugh out loud as he glared at Santana accusingly.
Santana looked at him dumbstruck, her mouth falling open as a guilty expression showed on her face. "I- I wasn't…Mommy is fine!". Then she shook her head muttering under her breath, "Wait a minute, why am I calling her that?" .
"I heard her scream!"
Brittany covered her face with a pillow to muffle high-pitched laughter at the scandalized look Santana sent in her direction.
"Honey, it's okay," Brittany finally got up as the boy continued to cry and leaned down to his level with a sheet wrapped around her, gently stroking his cheek. "You don't need to worry, although it's sweet of you to protect me. Your Mami and I were just cuddling again."
"You cuddle a lot together." Kenai complained, glaring at them. "Why do you need to cuddle so much?"
"I swear between that cat and this little boy, it's like the universe is out to get me." Santana groaned, shaking her head as she turned to Brittany for support.
"You know you love them." Brittany teased.
She could tell that Kenai was still agitated. Once she had put some clothes on in the bathroom, Brittany went up to him and knelt down to his level, speaking calmly. "It's okay, Honey, really. Mami didn't hurt me at all. She loves me and we both love you."
"Really?" Kenai beamed at her when she kissed his cheek.
"Really really," Brittany replied, kissing his forehead. He squealed happily when Brittany blew a raspberry on his stomach, lifting him up to sit him on the bed beside her. "You're our little tiger cub."
He pretended to roar and claw at her with a giggle while Brittany roared back at him.
"Am I interrupting something?" Santana walked back in with a laugh, now wearing some clothes again as well. She seemed to be in better spirits now that Kenai was happier and joined the two of them in the bed.
"Mama Tiger is here!" Brittany grinned.
"Britt, I think you should see these," Santana held out her phone, showing her some pictures of Kenai as a baby. "These were when he was just a little peanut before his hair darkened up even."
Brittany's heart caught in her throat because he was so beautiful and small that it made her ache. Santana flipped through to the photos of when he was a little older, around two maybe with long curly, golden hair that fell to his shoulders.
"Ooo look at that wild blond hair!" Brittany said with a laugh, "Like a little rock star!"
"I gots the blond hair from you, Mommy!" Kenai shouted proudly, making them both smile and Brittany knew she couldn't tell him otherwise because it would break his heart.
"I think you did!" She jokingly agreed and he jumped into her lap, hugging her.
"Cause you's my mommy!"
"Because you're my mommy. " Santana corrected, enunciating clearly. She was always trying her best to teach him how to read and spell.
Brittany laughed, and high-fived him while Santana just watched them the whole time, her smile never leaving her face.
Brittany could tell that Rachel Berry moving into the apartment directly below Santana's was greatly amusing to the Latina. She seemed to do everything possible to torment the short brunette, who had presented Santana and Brittany with an endlessly long list she had put together of rules for what Santana was allowed to do or not do in her apartment now that they were officially sort of neighbours. Santana had just balled it up and set it on fire. Finn had helped the tiny brunette move everything in and even he struggled under the weight of the many boxes of Rachel's clothes.
"Kindly leave this elevator and use another!" Rachel had hissed at Santana after the Latina had smirked at her and whispered very loudly to Brittany about the lewd things she was going to do with her when they got back to their apartment. The short brunette had appeared to be scandalized when she and Finn ended up being in the elevator alone with Santana and Brittany. "You're inappropriate."
"You don't own this elevator, Berry." Santana chuckled, ignoring her scolding. Finn just looked from Rachel to Santana with his typical confused expression.
Brittany found her girlfriend standing outside with the little boy on the balcony one day and gave Santana a suspicious but amused look. Santana's mission to drive Rachel insane seemed to be neverending and she was always finding new, inventive ways to play childish pranks on her.
"What are you doing, Santana?"
"Teaching him to aim. He's potty training, Britt."
Brittany gave her an incredulous look, shaking her head with amusement.
"Okay. On Rachel's favourite roses she keeps bragging about?"
"Shh, what the hobbit doesn't know won't hurt her. Rachel's pretty snobby. I think she needs to be taken down a peg. Less messes for me to clean up too so it's a win win," Santana chuckled. "Throwing water balloons was fun for a while but that got old fast after the fifth time she yelled at me."
"Rachel is going to be so mad at you." Brittany grinned. They both knew how Rachel was very obsessive about everything in her apartment being neat and tidy.
"Atta boy! Good job!" Santana cheered, snickering as Kenai ran and stuck out his hips without her prompting him and peed a perfect arch off of the balcony. "He didn't even need a demonstration. Smart boy."
Her face dropped when they heard movement in the apartment downstairs and a woman's loud voice calling out to them.
"Quick! She's coming, she's coming hide-"
"Excuse me, Santana!" Rachel hollered with her hands cupped over her mouth, her eye twitching and a cross expression on her face. "I don't know if you've noticed but your son is… watering my plants!"
"He's potty training!" Santana shrugged and yelled back at her. "It's good for the plants. Look it up!"
"Certainly not!" Rachel retorted, shaking a small fist, "This is appalling and improper behavior, Santana Lopez!"
"Sorry, he had to go! Couldn't stop him!" Santana held up her hands defensively while Brittany giggled beside her.
"Oh you - you bad people!" Rachel shouted in response, sending Santana a dark glare and making a threatening gesture towards her then walking away, grumbling. Brittany and Santana couldn't stop laughing after she left.
Santana and Brittany wondered if Kenai's "mommy" obsession was getting a little out of hand when he came home from preschool in tears one day.
"They said you aren't my mommy and I can't have two!" He wailed, when Brittany had finally managed to calm him down enough to talk to them and explain what was wrong.
Santana looked at him seriously, sitting down on the floor beside him.
"Kenai, why do you always call Brittany your mommy?" She asked softly, in a calm tone, "I know you love Brittany but you know she isn't actually your mommy, right?"
"Yes she is! I want her to be!" Kenai argued, sniffling as tears came to his eyes. "I know she's my mommy!"
"How do you know she is, Sweetie?" Santana asked, keeping her tone gentle.
"I just do 'cause she makes me happy like a mommy and I always wanted another one and we need one!"
"How did you get so smart, cariño?" Santana chuckled, rubbing his head affectionately as he puffed up his chest proudly under the praise. "You and Britt are the geniuses around here."
Brittany had never felt more content in her relationship with Santana, as weeks turned into months and she never got over the bliss of being Santana's girlfriend.
Still, whenever Santana thought Brittany didn't notice, the dark-haired woman would retreat to her room with a serious and worried expression on her face as she stared off into the distance. She was worried that Santana was becoming closed off to her again. She would wake up in the night randomly due to her nightmares sometimes.
"Santana, what's wrong?" She asked, touching her face gently to get her attention as Santana sat up in bed after a nightmare with a terrified expression, her skin covered in a cold sweat.
"It's nothing…" Santana said quietly, turning away. "It's just difficult to let go of this worry in the back of my mind that something is going to happen…that someone is out to get me. That someone could take you and my son away from me. I'm always afraid that this happiness I feel lately is going to come to an end."
"Santana…"
"Brittany, I love you so much but I don't know how much longer I can take living in this town," Santana admitted, sniffling. "Kenai and I, we're just not welcome here. I can still see the hate and fear on people's faces wherever I go."
Brittany's face fell, not knowing what more she could do to make things right for the Lopezes. Her love for Santana couldn't change how other people saw her. She couldn't change Santana's past.
"Santana, I love you too and I don't care what anyone else thinks of you." Brittany told her firmly, putting her arm around her shoulders. She tried to get to sleep but remained wide awake for the rest of the night, thinking about what Santana had told her.
That uneasy feeling grew inside of Brittany as the weeks passed, until it was all she could think about. Then on the day they least expecting it, the very thing Santana had been dreading happened.
Santana dropped her to work one morning and the two immediately noticed something felt wrong in the diner as Rachel and Tina were nervous, their voices raised as a group of customers seemed to be arguing with them.
"Hey! What's going on here?" Santana demanded, rounding on Rachel and the others as she bristled, expecting the worst. "Who are these low life assholes?"
"We're just having a little fun, that's all!" An annoyingly nasally and familiar-sounding drawl answered.
Brittany watched as Santana's face paled, a sickly look coming over her as she saw the group of men who came into view. A tall, musclebound blond with a mean face who looked like a bodybuilder stood beside Sebastian.
Santana shrank back, her face blanching when she noticed him. She turned a sickly shade as the man's soulless and colourless eyes met hers, an aggressive look on his face as he sneered in Santana's direction. Brittany shuddered.
She quickly realized this must be the biological father - though that term would only be used very loosely - of Kenai. It was difficult to believe Kenai could be in any way related to the cold and hardened looking man with such an ugly scowl.
Brittany and Kenai both shivered as he looked their way. When the man walked by Kenai, Brittany held her breath, wondering what he would do but he showed no recognition whatsoever towards him.
Santana immediately placed her son in Brittany's arms and stood protectively in front of Brittany and Kenai, as if it were second instinct to her.
Rachel, Tina and the rest of the staff watched Santana warily, as if expecting her to join in the fight against them, shock evident on their faces when Santana stepped in to defend them instead.
"Hey, let go of her!" Santana snarled to one of the henchmen who had Rachel in his grasp, even though Brittany could see the black-haired woman was shaking in fear.
When Sebastian's cronies grabbed Brittany who was holding Kenai, Santana went absolutely berserk.
"Hey just what the fuck do you think you're doing?!" Santana charged at the men who were holding her girlfriend and son. The boy was whimpering in fear as the blonde held him tightly to her chest. "I swear if you don't let them go..."
"Don't you get it, Lopez? You're a nothing and you always will be nothing." Sebastian stated evenly, observing Santana with his cold eyes. "I'm about to show you what happens when you try to get on our bad side."
"Is that all you care about? Revenge?" Santana snarled. "You're truly pathetic."
"You're a lying, deceitful bitch and you always have been!" One of Sebastian's men snapped in response.
"I might be a bitch but I have never lied about anything I said about any of you," Santana retorted. "It's not my fault that Devereaux douchebag ruined his own reputation with his stupid actions."
"You're not only a liar but you can't even protect the people you love," Sebastian chuckled in response, ignoring her remarks. "You're too weak. Isn't that right, Lopez?"
Brittany trembled, whimpering when the goon squeezed her arm and Santana immediately lunged at him with a growl, landing a strong punch in his face despite her small stature.
The man yelped in pain and surprise, blood now oozing from his nose and Brittany felt her chest freeze with fear, hoping Santana wouldn't get hurt as Sebastian glared at the Latina venomously, gesturing towards his thugs who were easily a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier than the Latina.
Brittany screamed when one of Sebastian's men grabbed Santana's arm, twisting it and the dark-haired woman's face turned pale as she grimaced.
"Take them away - just get rid of them. I'll deal with this bitch." Sebastian told the thugs. Santana screamed as she watched them drag Brittany and her son away while one of the large men held her back.
Brittany looked into Santana's fearful eyes and tried her best to tell her that she would protect Kenai no matter what. The brutal man who was Kenai's father showed no mercy towards any of them, instead staying close to Sebastian's side and smirking as it all went down.
The waitress couldn't see anything that was happening as they shoved her and the boy into the back room, locking the door from the outside. Brittany's heart was torn in two places - she couldn't bear the thought of not knowing what was happening to Santana and then there was also this little one in her arms who needed her urgently.
All she could do was stroke his hair comfortingly, humming a lullaby under her breath as Kenai cried. Tears came to her own eyes before she could stop them as she thought of Santana being alone and virtually defenseless.
"A little parting gift… " She heard Sebastian say with a laugh and a horrified feeling came over her as she thought of what he could mean. Seconds later, she smelled smoke and huddled closer to Kenai, pulling him near to the ground to keep them safe as a fire began to rage.
"I love you, Kitten," Brittany whispered to him. "Whatever happens, always know that I love you."
Kenai put his little hand on her face burying his head in the crook of her neck. "Love you too."
It felt like ages as they laid there, Brittany speechless and almost paralyzed with fear. Then just when she had almost given up, the figure of Santana was standing over them like a guardian angel, her face glowing in the light of the fire.
"Kenai! Brittany!" She breathed, tears in her eyes, "Thank goodness…I thought…"
There was no time for them to talk as the flames began to get higher around them and Santana focused on getting them out. She managed to pull Brittany to her feet, wrapping one of the blonde's arms around her shoulder and helping her and Kenai to safety.
Santana just kept kissing both of them all over their faces, holding them close as Finn Hudson and the other firefighters dealt with the situation in the diner. Rachel, Tina and the other workers were thankfully all safe, gathered outside. Santana was obviously shaken by the situation, just as she and Kenai were. Brittany was relieved to see that apart from a few minor wounds and what looked like a black eye, Santana hadn't been seriously injured by Sebastian. Moments passed and the three sat together on the curb in silence.
"What happened tonight just reminded me of how important it is to live to the fullest and never take anything for granted. There's something I need to show you." Santana pulled out a sheet of paper she had folded in her jacket and opened it up.
It was covered in Kenai's crayon drawings of a little figure with brown hair, a bigger, comically angry-faced person with black hair who was clearly meant to be Santana and a blonde woman with a smile holding hands with the angry figure, the little one in the blonde's arms.
"He drew this on Mother's Day when his teacher asked him to draw a picture of his mom."
Brittany felt tears come to her eyes.
"Kenai's a unique little guy. He never asked for a dad but he was asking me for another mommy since he could talk, practically. He dreamed of you too, you know…" Santana continued, "There are so many mornings he'd run to tell me about his dream of this pretty blonde, blue-eyed angel who was his mommy. I never took his dreams too seriously but I guess some part of me always wished that you were real. I thought I was wishing for a woman who didn't exist. There's no way someone so wonderful could exist, I thought. But luckily, I was so wrong."
"I wished for you too, ever since I was little. I was so lonely and angry, wishing for a girl like you. The night before we met you, I had just broken up with another woman and my heart felt like it had been raked over the coals again. I gave up all hope. Brittany…I have to tell you something. You are Kenai's mom," Santana told her quietly, breathless with emotion as she spoke. "In every single way other than if you had him yourself. You're just as much his real mom as I am. I can tell that you love him and he loves you… It's so pure how you love each other. He knew that he wanted you to be his mom from the moment he met you and he's right. Would you be the mother to my child?"
"Yes!" Brittany had never agreed to anything so quickly and easily, wiping tears away. "I've always wanted a baby boy. I love Kenai so much and I see him as if he was my son. That's how I've always felt. I would do anything for him."
"I know you would," Santana sighed, taking a deep breath. "You've more than proven that. The truth is that I wanted you to move in with me since that first night we were…intimate and it made me sad to see you go back to the diner, knowing that I have more than enough money to support both of us. Please move in with us, Brittany, forever. I don't want to be just that uncaring, selfish bitch anymore. He needs you. I need you."
"I need you both too." She admitted.
Brittany gasped when Santana dropped down on one knee and they heard the muffled sounds of Rachel and Tina shrieking, "Oh my God!" at the same time as Santana reached into her coat, searching for something. The blonde's eyes went big. Santana opened a tiny box and inside there was a light pink gem on a rose gold ring inside of it.
"When's the wedding?!" Whitney Pierce's voice rang out from the near distance. Brittany didn't know how her mother managed to figure out what was going on so quickly. She just shook her head in exasperation at Whitney's antics, feeling more tears come to her eyes as Santana gazed up at her with that happy, proud smile.
"There's something else too… a certain little guy helped me pick this out by the way, he approved of the colour because he knows it's your favourite. So this isn't exactly what I had in mind for a big romantic gesture but we never seem to do anything in the conventional way, do we? You… you mean everything to me. Brittany Susan Pierce, will you marry me?"
The news spread quickly and the small town was shocked to hear that the prickly and mean Santana Lopez of all people had been the one to defend the diner against Sebastian and his gang. Although the town remained wary of the woman, who was known for her vicious words, they no longer cast as many judgmental looks her way or fled at the sight of her.
A strange and wonderful thing happened as time went on. Santana herself was different. She no longer scowled as much, the hard edges leaving her face the more time she spent with Brittany. Instead, what was left was a woman who was more open and warmer, her outbursts becoming fewer and less aggressive as she became better at choosing her fights.
Maribel Lopez even had to admit that Santana had become more gentle and loving. She was forced to accept that she could never separate Santana from Brittany and even seemed to be accepting the blonde more now.
"Are you proud to be a big brother, Kitten?" Brittany asked.
"Yes!"
Three years later, Santana smiled, ruffling Kenai's dark hair as he gazed up at his baby brother in fascination. Baby Leo watched him with cat-like, upturned light green eyes that were identical to Brittany's in shape. He was cradled in Santana's arm, clinging to her the entire time as he always did and captivated with her.
"Why does he look like a cat?" Kenai pouted, not liking the attention being off of him but couldn't help but giggle when the baby kicked him in the head. "Ow ow, Mommy and Mami, Leo kicked me!"
Brittany smiled proudly at her one year old, dimpled baby being held by her wife. Santana's other arm was around her waist while Kenai skipped along beside them, holding the blonde woman's hand. Santana and Brittany's gold wedding bands shone in the bright sunlight.
She was overjoyed to officially be Kenai's mom now, through adoption even if she already knew she was his other mom in every other sense almost since the first day she met the boy. Since Kenai had always treated Brittany like if she was his real mom anyway, she fit right into their little family and she had never had to ask him to call her anything different. Santana was also Leo's mom and the bond she shared with him was instantly obvious even though Brittany had been the one to carry him for those nine months.
They had decided that Santana's first cousin who was strikingly similar in looks to the woman right down to his smile and the dimples on his cheeks would be the perfect choice for a donor for their child.
Tina and Mike were with the family, though they had spent the afternoon alternating between bickering loudly about Mike's mom and making out so much that Brittany and Santana stared at them in confusion, not understanding how the couple could jump so suddenly from arguing to practically having sex right in front of everyone.
"Do we have to go to this hockey game?" Rachel lamented, she and Finn walking beside the other two couples. The brunette struggled to keep up with Finn's long strides. "I still say Broadway would have been better."
Santana snorted, shaking her head at Rachel. "Rachel, c'mon. We're not doing Broadway. You can get your dads and boyfriend to take you to see Cats if you want. Our boys need to see a real sports game. It's like a coming of age ritual for them."
"I still don't really understand how this hockey stuff works, San. Sorry." Brittany said hesitantly. Santana tightened her grip around her waist.
"It doesn't matter, Britt. I'll explain more about the rules when we get there."
"As much as I never thought it would really happen, you two really do make a sickeningly sweet married couple," Tina admitted and Brittany beamed while Santana just glared at Tina and Mike half-heartedly as they snickered at her.
Though Brittany no longer worked at the diner, she and Tina remained close friends. The shorter girl still loved teasing Santana whenever she could.
"If I didn't know better I'd think you were getting soft on us, Santana. Guess Brittany finally tamed you." Tina shrugged.
"Oh shut up, Goth," Santana hissed, flustered and without much of her usual venom, making Tina and Mike laugh at her face. "Britt, why did we invite Chang Squared again?"
"Don't be rude," Tina replied with a laugh, accustomed to Santana's ways by now. "I know you secretly love us."
Brittany leaned over and kissed Santana's cheek, hugging Kenai close to her side.
"Hmph!" Santana grunted in annoyance but Brittany noticed that she couldn't stop herself from melting at the blonde's touch, a smile on her lips as she placed her hand on the growing bump on Brittany's belly. Soon their third baby boy, Saaya - she told Santana she just knew that would be his name - would be born.
Brittany leaned into Santana's neck, relishing the close contact between them. She thought for the millionth time how lucky she was to have found the loves of her life on that one fateful day at the diner.
The End
Notes:
Kenai is of Native American origin and means "black bear."
Leo is of Latin origin and means "lion." It's often the nickname for a fierce or brave warrior.
Saaya is a Hindi name meaning "shadow." It's also the name of a famous black panther who lives in the Kabini forest of India. Look him up if you like big cats. He and his mate Cleopatra are very much like Brittana in feline form and it's rumoured that they even have some cubs together now.
